    Great friendly commentary...keep it up your channel will explode. I usually fish in RI... explore there when you are bored with the canal. However...if you share with us all the knowledge of the canal... that would be great. I don’t get to fish there often... so your knowledge shard would be greatly appreciated.

      Much appreciated! I hope so, that'd be nice.
      I don't know a ton about the canal, I tried it on this trip and came up with nothing, it's definitely tough. I'll be back in August, prob not the best time for it, but I'll give it a shot anyway. I'll post if I have any success!

    Those circle hooks work very well.
    I prefer a conventional reel when I chunk.
    Nice video.

    • @rem_fishing

      They certainly do. What do you feel is better about conventional for chunking? I basically use spinning gear for everything, just comfortable with it, not so much a tactical decision really. And thank you!

      I prefer regular hooks also when using chunks. I’ve tried gamagatzu circle hooks and just felt like when I was setting the hook occasionally it missed and no hook set. So yeah your supposed to let them run and just reel it but all situations are diff and years of setting the hook the way I do is hard to change

    Nice. You ever downsize and try bloodworms drifting in the current? When my grandparents lived on the cape, that was our primary method and we killed with them. Big fish too... 40+ inches frequently. Up in the Eastham/Orleans area. Been 20 years since I've been there but remember it like yesterday.

    • @rem_fishing
      @rem_fishing  2 роки тому

      Nice! No, haven't given that a shot - but I might now!

      The cape has changed since I was a kid/teenager. 25-30 years ago. Grandparents lived in west Falmouth and we would fish like morning moon and nite. Would get a talking to for not spending time with family. But couldn’t resist. That was when the limit on stripers was 36 inches and just seeing a keeper striper that someone else caught was special. It’s beautiful shoreline looks like it should harbor PLENTY of fish. But MANY days & nights of catching sea grass will drive u nutz. If u goto sand worms the porgys will get ya. Don’t get me wrong the cape is great fishing but u have to be there everyday and in the right location. Locals told me that the explosion of the seal population has decimated the baitfish population in the inshore waters and that a boat. Any kind of boat to just get u out 1/2 mile to a mile and you will catch normal blues and stripers. We’re at the beach everyday you would think eventually you would see a school of something coming by on top water. That’s why I always brought my rod with a plug. Goin on 5 years now 10 days at the beach and nothin. U got great whites killing seals literally 10 feet from the sand but not a bluefish or striper in sight. I’m sure in the fall up past head of the meadow before race point there’s a bunch of runs. But man it should be a little more consistent.

      @@judd0112 Yep... Before my grandfather passed the seals had started to reappear and he said it was killing the inshore fishing.

    KastKing Reel? Ive got the same BaitFeeder model 6000 and 4000 smooth reels Handle flexes with a big fish. Not bad though

      This is actually Penn 'Fierce'. I like it - it's kinda heavy, but it feels super solid.

    I wonder catching one in salt water taste any different than catching one in fresh water.

    • @rem_fishing
      @rem_fishing  2 роки тому

      I've only ever caught (and eaten) one from the salt, so I'm not sure.
      Seems like a landlocked freshwater one could have some differences in eating quality though.
      Anyone reading this that knows have anything to share?

      It's in Onset. It's honestly not the greatest spot to fish - but my in-laws live there, and when I visit I occasionally I luck into a fish.

    23 inches is not a keeper? Here is California stripers only have to be 18 inches to keep. Sheesh and I thought California was strict.

    • @rem_fishing
      @rem_fishing  2 роки тому

      Yeah they have to be pretty hefty to keep in the northeast.

    U don't put the tape measure over the fish

    • @rem_fishing
      @rem_fishing  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the comment Dale! You're quite right - putting it over him like that will make it seem a tad longer. You'll also notice I went from the fork of his tail instead of the tip, and only to the end of his top lip instead of the bottom lip - which would both make it seem a little shorter. I was just trying to get a quick ball park measurement - If he was right on the line at 28" I would have then measured more carefully!

      Thanks! Yeah the plan is when I hit 1k subs I’m gonna take the first little paycheck I get and buy a microphone. The GoPro on its own has decent audio if it’s not windy.

      Haha It's true, I'm just a tourist here. Stripers are chunky fish man, I'll bet this thing weighed as much as a 28 inch trout (which is more what I'm used to catching).
