Awesome, exciting to finally start using these tools. I’ve been playing around with the iOS 18.2 beta update (which should be available for the public in about six weeks) and they’ve added another chunk of awesome Apple Intelligence tools. It’s happening!
Many of the features of 18.1 are available on earlier devices… But the Apple Intelligence features are only available on the iPhone 15 Pro and later… The processing requirement for Apple Intelligence is pretty high, and older phones don’t have enough power to manage them properly, so Apple has restricted Apple Intelligence to the 15 pro and later. Sorry…

They are still refining and updating those options. My phone is currently running the iOS 18.2 beta… So the placement of some of those options may have changed. Don’t worry, when the next update comes out yours will look more like mine.
@@TheMacWhisperer I wondered about that since there seemed to be many of us that were missing those features. Thanks for responding. Liked your 'live' show today, it was fun. ❤
No, it should also be available on the 15 Pro. Make sure you are on the iOS 18.1 update, and make sure you have signed up for Apple Intelligence in settings. There is a waitlist, which may take a day or two... but then you should see the "Create Memories" function on your phone.
As always, Great video.. it is interesting to see Apple’s approach to AI at the moment. They are integrating the AI into the everyday tasks that people use all the time in a very easy and intuitive way. I have been using AI with various different tools and it does amazing things but you need to go into their specific apps. I hope that they integrate Apple intelligence into Shortcuts, where you just ask Siri to create a shortcut for you. It would really help for more complex shortcuts. Thanks for doing these videos, I share relevant ones with my wife all the time.
Yeah, I'm excited about their take on AI. Specifically because it's going to bring those tools into the device itself, making it easier than jumping into different apps and websites to solve problems. In the long run, I think it's going to be a winning strategy. At first, it seems like they're a little behind... but they've got a lot planned for this year. I have started playing with iOS 18.2, and it has some nice tools... so we are moving in the right direction.
iOS 18.1 is the “wait a few weeks“ release. The original iOS 18 was released about a month ago, and this update has most of the fixes as well as a handful of new features. You can always wait a few weeks, but then you’ll be bumping into the iOS 18.2 update that’s slated for a month from now. And then you might wanna wait for that… And then you’ll be bumping into the next one… and waiting for that one. I don’t disagree with waiting when an operating system is first upgraded, but once the updates start rolling in it’s time to get up to speed.
The Apple Intelligence features will only be available for iPhone 15 pro and later models. 18.1 exists for all phones, but not with all the AI Features.
It's hard to say. when I did it a couple of months ago it took less than an hour. For the 18.2 waitlist, I've been waiting for four days... a lot of new people are going to be signing up today, the sooner you join the waitlist the faster it will let you through.
Thanks, I get a lot of compliments on them. Out of just utter curiosity if I had a link to where you could purchase shirts like mine is that something you would be interested in? I’m not really trying to sell the shirts to you specifically… I’m just wondering if that’s something viewers would like an easy link to find and purchase.
I dont know how you’ve been on 18.2 for months… the first beta was just released last week. Have you tried the visual look up? That’s a pretty nice feature. I’m also excited about testing out image playground (I’m still waiting to be at the front of the waitlist. Also really enjoying the GPT/Siri integration. But yes, 18.1 is just the beginning. There’s lots still in the works for Apple intelligence.
That’s always an option, but if you’re gonna have to buy a new phone anyways maybe just buy a newer iPhone… And get access to it. There are some really good carrier deals for the 16 right now.
@ I didn’t want to buy a new phone but if I have to it won’t be an iPhone all because of apples stupidy in leaving us out. I payed 1500 for a phone I expect updates
For most people to wait didn't take very long. You have to imagine there were millions and millions of people trying to sign on all at the same time on Monday… By now it should be pretty quick. FYI, I am on a waiting list for the 18.2 update and have been sitting and waiting for four days now… So take that.
Depends on the laws of the state that you're in. When you trigger the record feature it will announce to all parties that the call is being recorded. In most states all you need to do is have a statement like that and it becomes legal.
None of these things are on my iPhone 16 Pro Max. But some of these things I find to disrespectful to people who put time and EFFORT into writing texts or articles in websites and the best you can do is SUMMARIZE it?
I'm not going out of my way to say whether a summarization and AI or Apple Intelligence is valuable, useful, or necessary for those things. I'm just reporting on what's available. There are some websites or emails that are just too long and not well-written, and need to be summarized. Make sure that your phone is on iOS 18.1 (it's currently only available in the US, but if you change your region and language to English and US you can usually get on the waitlist) and you may see these features. You don't have to use them. I don't use them all that often, but it's really helpful when someone sends me 4 or 5 texts rapidly to have a simple summarization so that I know what they need and can get back to them quickly.
You created one of the better explanations of Apple intelligence. In addition, Apple should be thanking Google because all this technology is from Google.
How do you see that? OpenAI did not directly come from Google... On top of that, if we really want to talk about who we owe the credit to, Google wouldn't be anything if Apple hadn't brought their software to the masses (pre-installed Google Maps and UA-cam on the iPhone) and given them everything they needed to create the Android operating system by ripping off iOS. So if we really want to talk about credit, Apple created most of what we consider current technology. Or we could even go a step further and say thank you to Xerox, who invented the modern mouse, using a GUI and windows on a computer, and essentially the entire personal computer revolution - yet they get no credit. Everything comes from somewhere else, so nothing is really that original.
First you have to install the iOS 18 point one update, then go to settings, Siri and Apple Intelligence, and join the waitlist for Apple Intelligence. It usually takes less than an hour, lets you win, and then your screen should glow…
Strange, it says here that iOS 18.1 has officially launched. But when I check for software updates on my iPhone 16 Pro, I get a message saying that 18.0.1 is the latest version. 🤔
When the appel will realise properly keyboard with numbers on top on main keyboard page, like in android and statick "back button' on screen like in android? I don't have the nerve to constantly search for where the back button is in every single app...

So rather than giving a button that gave inconsistent results, they used swipe gestures to give you both options. As far as the keyboard with numbers on top, I'm not going to argue with you there.
I completely agree, but I was also doing that edit live while recording the video, and if I had taken a little more time I would’ve chosen a better image and done a little more work on it. But you’re right there are some third-party apps today that can do that really really well… But in the next Several months Apple’s tools are going to get a whole lot better… So I am hopeful that will improve these features.
