Happy Birthday Eric and thanks for sharing. This looks like where we live but a different style of home. Ours is about 5 miles from the city and mostly retired folks. Their kids come and visit on the weekends. We've owned this place about 14 years and to this day people are still fixing up their houses. There's also empty places with weeds and deteriorating structures. One place will be fixed up and next door nothing. Yes, kind of depressing but it's beautiful here with small man made lakes. I'd rather live here where it's quiet and peaceful than the craziness of the city. It's my birthday today 67. It will be celebrated with friends drinking Wuliangye (my favorite) smoking cigars, eating and having some of that crazy. Hope you enjoyed your day cheers!
Thanks Tim and happy birthday to you as well!. I think as a primary residence that you take care of and maintain, these places would be pretty nice, as a speculative investment that you leave to rot or rent out to partiers, probably not so much. It depends on the location and management as well of course. Enjoy the cigars! I gave up on cigars a year or two ago, but every once in awhile I think about how nice it would be to chill out on the porch smoking one again...
A white Caucasian man can go into China private resident area wandered around the area so freely doing video recording and speaking foreign language without have to fear of anything or people calling police to come and stop him. I am sure a Chinese man can't the same in US or western country the same as this. I remember many years ago when I was in US in California and drove into a white area, driving and not walking. In less than 10 minutes I was stopped by the residences thee and asked to get out of that area. And this country is always criticizing China of poor human rights, no freely and dangerous country.
Happy Birthday Eric and thanks for the informative and entertaining post. @21:43 the e-bike / e-scooter with the custom umbrella was a first truly unseen part of China for me when I visited Shenzhen for the 1st time back in June 2023. A lot of fond memories.
Happy Birthday Eric! I was in Guangzhou 2013-14 . I saw a few provinces in DongGuan which was much much bigger than just a town or city. I There were posh individually designed houses and very good quality blocks of flats. 🎉🇨🇳
Wow! The place looks nice despite some of the homes not well taken care of! And affordable too especially when you go there as a group! I love videos like these to see the real China. Haha. The outskirts are the best! 🤠Nice one brother!✊🏾
Agree totally with your observation. Most Chinese still prefer a more dynamic area with plenty of convenience to stay in and buy such properties to invest or as getaway homes.
Hey Eric, I would say if you have several older 'middle class' Chinese friends (aged 45 and older), you will find owning such getaway houses is very common (some people even own two! one for summer and one for winter). Especially when there is a 4A/3A scenic spot located not far away from a larger city (1-2 hrs drive), there will be lots of them. China does not collect property tax now for most cities so keeping such real estate is not so diffcult, and you only need to pay property management fee, maybe less than RMB1000 a month. Some of these houses look abandoned because the owners bought them for the life after retirement (they do not want to wait till the house price goes crazy). I can only say if it was bought before 2012, it can still be counted as a good investment.
According to my observation, the owners are often typical middle class: doctors/nurses, elementary/middle school teachers/professors, veterans, goverment employees, small business owners
Karaoke is more like Asian culture when they have the party. It is not just only Chinese people like Karaoke during the party, but Korean, Japanese, Philipino, or Vietnamese like it too. Based on where you come from I knew why you don't like it. In the US, they love playing loudly music and dancing and acting like gentle man. But in China, the chinese people love to sing and sometime dancing too. That is culture.
Not sure I said I don’t like it did I? And yes karaoke is all over Asia, but was just talking about China in this video. Could share some wild stories of ktv in Seoul but I won’t 🫡
Happy Birtday m8.. hope u got to celebrate it well, from what i hear on your next day voice🍻. and thanks for pumping another excellent video out.. but got a question for U.. if i want to travel around there with a backpack, is it possible or are there any regulations for foreigners to get out there and see China.? I have had discussions with friends here in Norway about it, and they where sure u couldn`t do that as a traveller in China. any good recommendations where to go, for not to see the normal touristy places?
Thanks! yea you can go pretty much anywhere, the only places I've faced any kind of limitations in 12 years in China is Xinjiang and Qinghai (I've never been to Tibet, but that is also more limited)...anywhere else no one will care about what you are doing or who you are. People are friendly and welcoming. If you want to see how easy it is to do random dumb crap in the most obscure places, go to the search function within the channel, search for "episode 1" of when I was crossing china, it's like 6 years ago. Watch the 3 episodes in that series before I gave up lol no viewers and a lot of work... bought a 3 wheeled scooter and had an adventure. As far as where to go... depends on what you want to do and see. Yunnan is my favorite province, you can see my videos from there, shangri-la, xishuangbanna... hell I'll try to dig up some old video and make video about my favorite place, Shaxi Village... Anywhere in the south though is good, guizhou and guangxi and jiangxi provinces are all impressive with natural beauty, good weather, great food. North you'll find things a bit rougher, but still fun. Lot's of good hiking as well up north. Come out and enjoy, don't trust the Norwegian friends :P
Hi, welcome to China. There are no special rules for foreigners here. Just bring your documents and enjoy the trip. Just come. There are many cities in China, some are very modern, some are very historical, some have shocking natural landscapes, and some have special national customs. Even the diet structure is different. Some areas like to eat sweet food, some areas like to eat spicy food, some areas eat rice as the main food, and some areas like noodles as the main food. Chinese also bit properties in the US and don’t take care of them. That’s when I call the police and have them fined. These fines add up and are attached to the house as liens. They don’t pay their liens they go to jail.
