I rented one a couple of times in Vegas because I always thought they looked weird and fun. So I bought on a few weeks ago. Ive rented both. The automatic is all over the place hunting for the gears, it never shifts when you need it to. The older stick is the way to go with the gm motor. It shifts like a normal car with a five speed, much better out of the two. The Polaris motor has more power though. Everybody needs to try one of these once. They are very entertaining vehicles.
custom bikes and trikes I do agree with you when it comes to the manual, but a bit on the fence when it comes to the autodrive. I own the 2021 Slingshot R w/ autodrive and paddles, and personally I feel like that's the way to go if you live in the city. I test drove the manual for a day, and I wasn't a fan of how it felt driving around Houston, so I decided to go with the autodrive w/ paddles because on the freeway and in the country you have really good control over which gear you're in, but when you're cruising around the city you don't have to worry about constantly shifting gears and possibly stalling; and yes the Slingshot is super easy to stall when you're going from light to light.

@cybhunter007 because the polaris engine revs to 8750 and the ecoboost is trash especially when linked to an automatic. The reason it was revving to 2500 RPM at 25 is that it was barely running at that speed. If you look at the power band of that engine that's exactly where it should be.

Such a WEIRD vehicle! Does not seem like a fun thing in the city. This is really a weekend special for... I'm not sure who this is for. Great edit btw!
I'll be going from a Harley to a slingshot for different reasons, as a biker the rain is part of the experience, I think it would be easier for a biker to go to that than someone who drove a car , but I'll keep the bike also
This looks like it was more fun to drive than I expected. Surprised to see it could be pushed so hard on corners. Suppose the width and stability control help stabilize it, but what's the limit and the consequence of exceeding the limit of it's cornering ability? Does not seem to be an improvement on 2 or 4 wheels.
It was a lot more fun than I expected! Never felt tippy, always really planted. Though I did leave a bit more margin for error than I would have with something like a Miata. The tendency to oversteer was certainly a bit greater. Even though it does have a roll bar, exceeding the limits of a Slingshot on a canyon road isn't something that I wanted to experience.
We absolutely love our 21 s, don't know why anyone would want more power can't even keep the tires planted if ya beat on the skinny pedal at all,,an the corners its like all it wants to do is stick without so much as a wiggle, totally amazing, doesn't like lose sand an such but a nice piece of rd an 3rd gear into a hair pin with a set between your legs an don't flinch that steering wheel i laid into the throttle on a couple an it just a beast,I'm not goin make a habit of it but yummy its awesome, man the harder u corner it the harder it sticks an doesn't make since without a sway bar but apparently the engineering is spot on.totally by accident I had front left wheel come up into 1 curve what a rush,,an not even a fade of wanting to get loose but that was the 1 and only time forevermore ,I've takin it as far as I ever want an sure its got more but not by my hand an not in my machine anymore,,
There are some decent size compartments behind the seats. If you pack light you could make it work. Polaris makes an optional canvas roof, and I think a few other companies have options.
Check on Turo to see how many others are available for rent in Tampa, and how many customer reviews there are. Might give you an idea how often they get rented!
I can't imagine buying one of these over a (much cheaper) CanAm Ryker or a much more practical Miata. You can get a Miata RF on the used market for a little over 20k, and not worry about getting rained on or someone slashing your top lol.
A Can-Am is more of a motorcycle (seating, handlebars, limited storage, etc). The Slingshot is more like a car. For a motorcyclist, the Can-Am steers funny, since you can't lean it into turns. You kind of muscle it through turns by turning the handlebars. The Slingshot definitely handles like a car. I like sitting side by side with a passenger, instead of front and rear. It all depends on what you like.
If I weren't afraid of injury or death, I might ride it!! Anyway, have you checked out the Colt Vista Wagon yet on Auto Auction Rebuilds yet? It's getting ready to go up for auction.
We absolutely love our 21 s, don't know why anyone would want more power can't even keep the tires planted if ya beat on the skinny pedal at all,,an the corners its like all it wants to do is stick without so much as a wiggle, totally amazing, doesn't like lose sand an such but a nice piece of rd an 3rd gear into a hair pin with a set between your legs an don't flinch that steering wheel i laid into the throttle on a couple an it just a beast,I'm not goin make a habit of it but yummy its awesome, man the harder u corner it the harder it sticks an doesn't make since without a sway bar but apparently the engineering is spot on.totally by accident I had front left wheel come up into 1 curve what a rush,,an not even a fade of wanting to get loose but that was the 1 and only time forevermore ,I've takin it as far as I ever want an sure its got more but not by my hand an not in my machine anymore,,
MPG?
Did they fix the problem with back wheel falling off?
If you want doors and a roof, check out the 3-wheeled Vanderhall. It's faster with a turbo charger and even has heat and air conditioning.
do these have any options for luggage space,,or a roof should any one want to go on a road trip?
There are some decent size compartments behind the seats. If you pack light you could make it work. Polaris makes an optional canvas roof, and I think a few other companies have options.
I drive a 15 S, don't own a car. This is my daily driver but have ordered a 21 R.
Wow the base slingshot makes more horsepower than my Ford Fusion 😔
I'm short 5.1. Can I adjust the seat? Move it forward, closer to peddles or even jack up the seat?
Yes you can
@@vernard4080 I bought one and love it.
This thing is perfect for people that can't make up their mind between buying a motorcycle or a car.
This video was when we met you on Angeles Crest Hiway a month ago.
Oh hey man! Nice to hear from you! Thanks for checking out my vids! Did you have a good time in California? Hope all is going well :)
autocycles are often considered motorcycles depending on the state
I was also wondering if it is sorta like for people who want a two passenger Can-Am Spyder.
about the same price too
traction on a slippery ,wet road can be a problem.
Another good video, but as I thought when I heard you talk about it on the podcast, I am not their market at all.
Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it! Yes, seems like a very narrow target market for this vehicle!
I live in Tampa. I’ve thought about buying one to rent out. Idk if it’s worth it though.
Check on Turo to see how many others are available for rent in Tampa, and how many customer reviews there are. Might give you an idea how often they get rented!
Dodge: "hey polaris buddies, mind if we throw one of our engines in it"? 😉
🤔 It has a Polaris engine?
I used to be a service writer at a Polaris dealer. I've never seen so many warranty claims, day after day.
😬
What were the main issues?
I want one sooo bad!!!😳😳😳🙌
I can't imagine buying one of these over a (much cheaper) CanAm Ryker or a much more practical Miata.
You can get a Miata RF on the used market for a little over 20k, and not worry about getting rained on or someone slashing your top lol.
cant wait to buy one in 5 years when the prices drop down to 15 grand or less, no way these hold their value
I would like to know how this compares to a Can-Am.
It reminds me of your Stanza wagon. I remember both back in the day. I had a 90 Plymouth Colt hatchback and 93 Dodge Colt coupe.
I'll check it out! I've always wanted a Colt Vista Wagon! They're rad!!!
Hey bro. The Colt Vista is up for auction. Check it out at Auto Auctions Rebuild. I wish he had a 90 Colt GL. I owned one back in 90 just out of high school By the way, I'm not affiliated with that site. Just a fan of his site and yours!!!
So what if you get a flat tire ?....are you out of luck ?
I HAD to click on just long enough to comment.
"Ridiculous" has to be one of the best, one-word descriptions, used to describe this thing.
Hilarious, just how accurate that is.
It's funny to know there are people buying this thing.
I only have money because, I don't do stupid things with my money.
ANYBODY can make money; smart people know how to KEEP IT (or talk idiots out of theirs).
I have one and I lovin it it is sooo much fun and the power is insane
I'd take the 20 grand, buy a Maverick shell and a 390 ho block with a pro charger.
THERE'S NO SIDE TO SIDE LEG ROOM !!!
Scary. Need an Oldsmobile.
😆
I'll take my pick up over that thing any day thank you
I have a pickup and a slingshot. The pickup is no where near as fun as this.
....HOW DID THE WRECK HAPPEN?
Uhhh what wreck
Kool however for me I really like Morgan 3
Lift it, put an electric motor in it, and a removable hood, I'm in.
That would be an Aptera.
you are talking abouT an ARCIMOTO
Bro didn’t have to flex with the carbon fiber helmet.
Polaris let me borrow it 😆
Does this easily fishtail?
You can get the rear end to step out pretty easily if you floor it, but it's not uncontrollable :)
I was thinking more like autotrikle
Good thing you didn’t get the automatic. It’s trash. Also, I think that pedal travel issue might be an aberration.
It's not a race tire get a good surface not a worn down canyone road that's sun rotted .. get a tracked prepped and drag radial and you'll grip 2000hp... I laugh when someone says they roast 400hp with shit tires...
How are these in terms of speed and power compared to the T-Rex?
Ethan, the kind of guy who plays Doug Demuro videos on an endless loop while he sleeps! Cool video I don't like the slingshot....and that is a terrible color combo
how about sell a version without that very aggressive body work...less weight and should be a lot cheaper
I hate the thought of wearing a helmet all day, so a Miata is a better alternative.
