  • El Salvador has continued its crackdown on what officials are calling a war on gangs as the government has arrested 6,000 gang members in response to a killing spree in March. The rise in gang violence caused a countrywide state of emergency, but advocates claim some of the the efforts are creating a framework for abuse.

People aren't against the gang members being rounded up. People live in a fantasy world if they think the issue is that simple.
People are against the consequences for innocent and falsely accused El Salvadorians whose lives are destroyed and the future of every innocent person in El Salvador when the framework for police state abuse with zero accountability is being set. Right now it's the lesser of two evils. But if and when that ceases to be the case, the abuse, killings and torture will be a lot harder to stop when it's the government of El Salvador doing it instead of street gangs.

The very same statement you've made directly applies to Putin, and his claims about Ukraine. I don't see anyone here arguing for gang members. They're arguing that you shouldn't arrest and potentially starve people without offering proof, allowing them access to a lawyer, or jamming them into cells for fitting a description. @@alforest4709 poverty is not a reason for being criminals and murderers. I have been in poverty too but never tried doing crimes or hurting others for a living. These gangs and gangsters really need harsher punishment. Putting them in jail with free meals is a heaven. They must be put to hard works to learn how to make a living.
