    In the late 1980’s me and a buddy took my Bronco from Silverton to Telluride over an above-tree line road. The road got real narrow with steep drop-offs, and on the way down we came up a station wagon heading up in our direction. My palms were sweaty as a mother and her three kiddos nonchalantly passed by us. Then on the final leg downhill my brakes vapor-locked, but I was able coast to a stop alongside a grove of aspen trees.

      That is a great story. Albeit a bit more drama than we prefer. Lol. Thanks for sharing.

      I lived in Telluride and had a new Scout II. A Marine Corps buddy and I decided to take Black Bear Pass. I had three sets of tires. One for regular driving, one for off-roading ad one more for sand. Too lazy to change out the wide sand tires we pressed on. He was driving. At one point I noticed the tires on my side were just starting to edge over the road. Very calmly I told him, "Jim, you better move to your side, the tires are over the edge of the road." He replied even more calmly, "If I do that I will scrape the mirror off the door." We made it, but weren't lazy any more.

    Nice video. I lived in Telluride when True Grit was being filmed. John Wayne and Glen Campbell came into the drugstore where I worked. It was neat to see what the production team did to Ridgway to film there. They built new wooden sidewalks and aged them. Also the rock wall for the hanging was pretty neat. In one of the cuts where they are about to hang the bad guys you can see a jet flying. If you ever watched The Unsinkable Molly Brown movie, part of that was filmed near Telluride. When True Grit came out I had just gotten my drivers license so I had the car. I went to the Idarado Mining Company, picked him up and took him to the theater. There is so much to see and do there and in the surrounding area. Take the Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge railroad. Stunning. Thanks for posting this.

      This is a great comment. What a great memory that would be, meeting those 2. And the jet? Now I have to check that out. Thank you for this.

    I would have loved to see the road actually being driven into Telluride. I seems to me that the road actually stopped at the the top of a crest. Or was it just scenic overlook and that the actual road into Telluride was where You encountered that last vehicle approaching from Your left?
    Breathtaking scenery none-the-less.

    • @copelandingadventures
      @copelandingadventures  Рік тому +1

      Hey Virgil. I appreciate the comment. The dirt gravel road ended at the airport. Then if I remember correctly you turn onto a paved road When going into Telluride there is a huge Elk herd that stays out in a field. We found that to be the cherry on top of this days travel.

    I would have enjoyed this video at a slower speed. At times you were traveling so fast I found myself watching the road instead of the scenery. You were lucky you only met one other vehicle. Were you trying to see how fast you could drive this road ?

    Great video and editing. Thanks for sharing. I'm researching this area for a July 2023 trip. Road in video appears very tame/mild as you have commented to others. In your experience or opinion would a superduty crew cab 4x4 with 16 foot flatbed trailer have any issues navigating this trail North to South?

    • @copelandingadventures
      @copelandingadventures  Рік тому +1

      Thank you so much. As per your question I would not recommend it. There are tight spots. It is a relatively short trail so maybe leave trailer behind in a safe area treat it as an out and back trail. Trails have different views doing that. Enjoy this area. It's amazing.

    Looks like this would be a nightmare if there's oncoming traffic, is that something to be concerned about? Or is it a one direction road, looks like there's very few spots to pull over. I want to do this drive in July of this year coming up soon. Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated

    • @copelandingadventures
      @copelandingadventures  Рік тому +1

      Hello Wesley. I highly recommend this drive. I wouldn’t be concerned about passing. Everyone works together when the need arises. We are all out there for the same reason. Just go slow and be mindful of the edge. If two vehicles meet on a steep narrow road and neither vehicle can pass, the vehicle facing uphill has the right-of-way. The vehicle facing downhill has more control when backing up the hill. Thanks for your comment and enjoy the drive.

    • @copelandingadventures

      Depends on your definition of regular car is. I would say not a car. Need some clearance and if wet 4x4 will be safer.

      Always be willing to turn around if you feel uncomfortable. Let someone know where you are and if possible go with someone else. This is a pretty mild road under dry conditions. I appreciate your comment. Come back and let me know your experience.

    Hi, we have a 4wd Suburban. You think it could make it? Any real tight turns?

    • @copelandingadventures
      @copelandingadventures  Рік тому

      I would not see why not. It is a real mild trail and so beautiful. See my other video on Ophir pass. It is doable too. As always weather and your comfort level plays a part in making that decision. A great rule is if in doubt turn around. Nothing too tight on these trails. Maybe a couple switchbacks with multi point turns. You will love these trails.
