Every tournament since 1990 can be traced to a manager showing fierce loyalty to players who didn't deserve to be starting whether on form, or fitness. It is an England "thing" to pick players that hinder the team because the Manager has a psychological need to surround themselves with loyalists: Kane, Maguire, Shaw, etc.

@@JJbyo And? What’s your point? People call guys like Kane and Lukaku stat padders. Where are all these other mythical strikers out there putting numbers up like them? There are barely any of them at the elite level. Scoring goals, and consistently scoring goals, is far and away the most difficult skill in the sport. This narrative that there are legions of goal scoring machine forwards out there is pure nonsense. Hardly any exist at the elite level.

@@nc8507 happy to stand corrected…. England were much better in the first half, completely outplayed Holland. Kane was a little better, Foden was outstanding.. Mainoo was superb. Although their play started to become pedestrian in the second half and changes were needed which Southgate made.
