Atarashii Gakko No Leaders (New School Leaders) were formed in 2015 by Asobisytem. Mizyu (long twin pig tails) was already on their books as she was a back up dancer to Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and they brought in Rin, Kanon and Suzuka to join her. They do all their own choreography and also create dances for other groups. They contribute to the theme and lyrics of the songs and work with producers on the music so they have songs influenced by the producers' styles from jazz, and rock to hip-hop. They have some of the most original choreo I've seen from an idol group. In fact they are almost an anti-idol group as their motto is "With individuality and freedom I'm going to stick out" and they sing about challenging themes and have appeared at Pride events and do some pretty avant garde art projects. In 2020/21 they joined 88rising to break into the US market and have had a little bit of success getting millions of YT views and doing some concerts in California. Mayoeba tōtoshi (Respect (yourself) if in doubt) is another AG teenage angst song about having faith in yourself even if you are young and being a good friend ie teenage solidarity.
dont forget they dont call their group as "idol group" but "dance and performance group" (and it seems they call it as "dance and vocal unit" now, as stated in their official website). in japan some groups avoid to be called as idol..
Attached is the link to the song with English translation. Enjoy it so you may get an idea of what they’re singing. In some songs, they tackle serious topics with a catchy beat. Remember they have no special genre, do their own choreo and have been together since 2015. They have paid their dues and are going recognition in and outside of Japan. Check out the First Take performance of Otanablue.
Wow! A music reactor who actually knows music, and goes beyong silly reactions and into a full critical review. Cool, we need more of that! (And, almost impossible to believe and kind of refreshing, didn't react to Atarashii Gakko's appearance on The First Take from three days ago, performing their excellent song Otona Blue, like a million other channels have done. Still, would love to see your take on that one.)
14:25 the way you commented connects to the meaning of this song. Until now it makes me cry. The first time I listened to this 2 years ago, it's kind of unpredictable harmonization. But when the song ends, it feels like you are refreshed. Thank you for reacting on this. Also putting comment for algorithm. Mayoeba Toutoshi 迷えば尊し - getting lost is a best experience just keep moving forward
Great group and so much fun. They just did a First Take of Otona Blue and had like 5 million views in less then 3 days. Earlier songs have a jazz, rock, pop fusion. Later songs more electronic and hip hop. Highly suggest the mv for Koi Geba. Suzuka (glasses) said just last year in an interview that Koi Geba is the best place to start with AG. Greetings from Melbourne Prymalchaos. Nice to hear Atarashii Gakko employ some organic instrumentation for a change as opposed to the more dance inflected sounds that those of us out there who have already heard some of their previous output have become accustomed to hearing. Be sure to check out more of Atarashii Gakko's musical offerings mate.✌️❤🤘
They are basically a J-pop/Idol dance group with different types of music which they dance and sing to. They don't produce the music themselves as far as I know, but the main focus is basically on their dancing. Musicwise they are all over the place, from jazzy stuff to hip-hop and stuff like this one. And while J-pop and especially Idol groups are usually not for me, I typically enjoy watching Atarashii Gakko's videos. They are usually very fun and well made. Their dacing practice are also really enjoyable even if I don't really care too much about dancing generally, they actually make make it interesting for me and I'm not sure how.
I saw jon.yakitory credited in one song and that is a Vocaloid producer. But probably every songwriter in Japan has made Vocaloid. I assume they just buy songs from professional songwriters. Which is great. No problem with that.
@@jimnusbaum3589 They do, although the vocals are usually somewhat produced/pitch-corrected/auto-tuned and they play with vocal backing tracks as well from the couple live things I have seen (like the majority of J-pop and Idol bands do from the little exposure I have had). But they certainly aren't bad at all, their first take performance was really good (although it has plenty of post-production as well). The type of dances they do while singing can not be easy though, I have genuinely a lot of respect for what they do. So I certainly didn't mean what I said as a negative. While I certainly prefer music bands who play their own music (again, J-pop and Idol groups are generally not for me), I am not trying to criticize them for it. I know this is generally how these type of groups perform their music and who am I to criticize them for it just because I am not used to it. They do what they do very well.
Interesting story, but Tron is a fellow Band-Maid fan. I met him in Boston at the Band-Maid concert. We were side by side in the front row in front of Misa. AG's sound varies so muich from song to song, you really can't fit them into a genre. They are very theatrical. Great to watch. So much fun.
Check out they have a new EP they just released!!! All tracks are my fave and they already have MVs for those!!! Please if you can also react to their Woo Go dance choreography !!! All their songs are masterpiece I swear!
Their Jazzy stuff is the best imo. Check out Koinosyadanki or Okami no Uta. Kimiwaina ´17, Koi Geba and Dokubana are great Rock tracks. And Nainainai and Woo Go are cool Hip Hop tracks.
I would love it if you could possibly react to the covers of Hoppipolla... The first cover I heard back then was Creep and Ha Hyunsang's voice touched me so deeply that I cried without even realizing it. 😭 Their cover of Wake me up or Ha Hyunsang's solo cover of High Hopes are just good too.

Thanks for that context! I am terrified of coming off as a clueless westerner. Even if that's exactly what I am 😉😂 In truth the O sound is probably the hardest part because it is so different in the Australian accent. Our O sounds are so open. Almost like an Ay.
@@PrymalChaos yeah, that's why I didn't try to describe it, because your accent is different enough from mine that I have no idea how best to describe it without resorting to IPA symbols.

Atarashii Gakko Rocks! And your video is so smart. I learned something. Thx! Kudos!
This group is such a fun grab bag. rock, acid jazz, hip hop they do it all along with their quirky dances. Such a fun group.
Kimiwaina 17(The video that almost played when the music video ended) Is a great song to react to
(2)
By the way this has been always their ending song on their live concerts in Japan. That is why I think this song is really precious to them ❤
These girls are nuts in a great way... glad to see they are finally making it.

They do sing though. The vocals are theirs and they are all very good vocalists, Suzuka especially.
