If I could add one thing back in to else’s life, it will be his mom never died. He may have got intertwine with Parker still, but he wouldn’t of got Priscilla and he probably would’ve had more internal strength to stand up for himself in the 60s when he needed it.

Something to put Elvis's crazy vocal range into perspective: That high note Elvis hits is a semitone higher than the high note Pavarotti hits at the end of Nessun Dorma.

Elvis, who had to perform repetitively and rigorously, began having health problems in 1971. Despite the betrayal of those around him, Elvis had no choice but to endure in silence and continue performing. A cheating Priscilla, a manager addicted to gambling, and even friends. These are vampires who stick straws into Elvis and suck his blood. Elvis survived only by taking medication prescribed by a quack, and eventually passed away without receiving proper treatment. It wasn't a genetic problem. The cause of his death was people using him to make money.😭

Just saying…. Look how thin he was in 1971,70,69and even some of 68!!! Was still in great shape after picking up a few pounds in 73 for ALOHA!!! He looked fabulous slim, skinny
or like 73 with just a little meat on him. Not even chubby!! But hey why didn’t anyone say to him in 70 and 71 “ HEY E ,,, you are a little to thin there my boy” !! And even though he looked gorgeous he was a little to thin.
      He swelled from
all his illnesses and drugs and people just want to remember a FAT ELVIS!!! Disgusting !!!
I’m a huge fan…. That last year of him at looking at what the critic’s call”FAT” was a mixture of things.
Bloating from heart problems… and probably liver that alone makes you swell. The meds they give you for those
      Illnesses make you swell
As well!!! I wish people would realize
what he was going thru to keep his fans happy and the gambling manager and all his people paid all the while with the worse contracts in history on the biggest star in history!!!! Also that book of betrayal!!! HURT!!
He shouldn’t have been performing at all that last year (part of 76 and 77!!! He needed medical help and other help. The manager needed to be fired a long , long , long time ago. He would of had a normal schedule and time to get better ❤️‍🩹 .

@@sheilapickral1840 I agree with you 100%. Billy Smith said he begged Elvis to take off a year and get healthy. Billy told him to explain it to the people around him, that if they cared about him they would understand and if they didn’t understand, they didn’t care about him in the first place. Elvis said couldn’t, too many people depended on him for a living. This is so sad.

@NancyJSimpson I do not think genuine Elvis fans want to rewrite history with blinders on. They/We are well aware of his humanity, and many would agree to the points you state. However, we just don't see the point in emphasizing it over and over.
I feel the time has come to celebrate him and his vast and precious legacy, and there is a lot to do for Elvis channels 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶😊.
Again, this does not mean we are in denial.
Also, please, as an Elvis fan, be very careful these days talking about him and young girls! There is enough ugly talk about this, and no proof. (Except you think Priscilla's emphasizing how old she was when they met is proof for you. I don't think so?) It's only pouring oil into the fire.
    Do you want that?

I agree that Elvis's voice was at its best in the 60s. His voice was like liquid gold then. In the 70s, his voice, whist still strong initially, gradually becomes weaker, thinner and more quavery. I've even noticed it in the Aloha special, that his voice just doesn't sound as strong and full as it once did. I think part of that was due to his health issues and part of it was also due to simply over using it with all the concerts and touring that he did, especially in the dry Vegas climate, which would not have been good for his voice (I'm a speech therapist so I work with voice disorders and damage).

  • @NancyJSimpson
    @NancyJSimpson 11 місяців тому +38

This is one of the most profound videos on UA-cam concerning Elvis. So many of those who love Elvis rewrite history. They literally live in a delusional land where Elvis is blameless and sinless. If anyone speaks anything negative about Elvis they will be called an Elvis hater, disrespectful of Elvis, or an outright liar.
One can love Elvis and simultaneously understand that he was flawed. This does not ruin his legacy it simply humanizes him and lets history know he faced tremendous challenges. He faced temptations that few humans will ever know.
He could get unlimited narcotics and other drugs. He had thousands of women throwing themselves at him and wanting just one night with him. He was a human and he gave into drugs and became an addict. He gave into temptation and became a womanizer often with young girls. He had round-the-clock cooks and he ate foods that were not healthy.
I will tell you why he died. His Memphis Mafia had moved on. They had families of their own and many now lived in California. He could not trust Joe Esposito who was a mole for the Colonel. Elvis realized the Colonel was financially raping him. Red and Sonny West and Dave Hebler had been fired and their tell-all book "Elvis What Happened" was about to be published. This was a deep and terrifying humiliation for Elvis.
Priscilla publically humiliated him by having an affair with Mike Stone. And, then she took Lisa Maria from Elvis to live in California.
Ginger was just not that into him like the other women. His body was giving out on him with bloating, stomach, and eye pain. He was addicted and needed more and more drugs to function. Some of his concerts were a total humiliation with him forgetting words, and having to read songs from a piece of paper.
The world was passing him by. He was turning into a caricature of himself. Fat and forty the headline read. He was a black velvet photo with eyes that light up. He had bills piling up and a staff that relied on him for their livelihood.
Elvis wore out. The drugs that were found in his body would have killed a horse. His body was bloated and toxic from his enlarged colon. His heart was weak and a perfect storm occurred and Elvis just gave out and gave up the ghost.
To speak the truth in no way takes away from the magic, the charisma, the generosity the talent, and the beauty of the greatest entertainer that ever lived.

I still don't understand with all the health (severely constipated and all the other things they claim) issues how he performed at all. I sadly agree that at times you could tell he was drugged up. But I will always love him and his singing no matter what because I don't think he felt he had a choice if he was going to make everybody happy. Heartbreaking.

As a huge fan of Elvis, i know he was not perfect. The drugs affected him and I feel those around him totally ignored it because they did not want to hurt him or make him mad at them. I think he felt he did no wrong in the drugs because they were prescriptions. Having a doctor who gave into him was not a good thing.

I love and appreciate your hard work and research. You really please us ELVIS FANS And I appreciate all you. Do. However on this one I disagree a bit. I believe that the Colonel’s ridiculous schedule he set up for ELVIS ALONG WITH ALL THE YES PEOPLE IS WHAT MADE HIS DRUG USE GET TO WHETE IT GOT. Also from what I understand he did have inherited physical illness’s that were serious. To think how hard he worked on stage doing a performance some people would have a heart attack off just doing 1 of his shows. The voice got to a lower range . . But most of the time was still the most beautiful voice ever.
The hard work he put in all nighter rehearsals!!!
He was being smothered and hurt by people he once loved . He was not allowed to do what he wanted to do.!!! We all know why!! I guess my point is that YOU ARE ONE OF THE BEST IN THIS BUSINESS…so why all the talk about the drug use. We all know it.
But as ELVIS said and sang … don’t judge another man if you haven’t walked in his shoes. I saw him twice when I was only 10 and12 and he usually did 2 shows !!!! I feel the schedule of VEGAS AND HIS TOURING WAS A DEFINITE KILLER…. without drugs I feel
It would be. Not many entertainers had a schedule like his. He was sick emotionally from what we’ve been told and physically and add all that up … well just saying … he had a lot on his plate. My dad (somehow) talked his way backstage and met Elvis, his lifelong hero, telling how much he loved his music and had looked up to him, like an older brother. People don't like to admit it, but Elvis was kind of an expert on what all these pills could do for him. He carried some damn book all the time about all these barbiturates and amphetamines and crap he was taking. The man was a great artist when at his best and probably a pretty decent human being under the circumstances who certainly had moments of incredibly poor judgement and some anger issues at times. It's ok to add admit and deal with this and still be a devoted fan. Some people think they have to almost deify him and deny the bad stuff. Unnecessary.

However, he did, in fact, have more physical ailments than the public is aware of and that will be exposed in 2027, exactly 50 years after his death, per Vernon's wishes. Until then, the world can truly only speculate.

He was sick of doing this. He was sick, depressed and prob had money issues besides the colonel issues. I saw him when I was 5 1956. Lived him ever since. Don’t be disappointed in him cause I love him for loving us his fans. There were no Betty Ford clinics for this type of addiction and remember his mother could have been alcoholic . I’ll never stop loving him. He loved us till the end. His people did not help him. Most used him. It made me sad to hear you but I know he was addicted but he was in big denial I don’t believe priscilla tried to help me either. I just don’t . I saw him 8 times in 70s. Fabulous I’m a psychologist now and know a lot about addiction. He was tired and health was bad. His cook said he was going to fire all of them. Please don’t call him fat. He had weight problems even during movie years. He did drugs. They all did drugs all the mafia. I don’t think he would have died if he toured Europe. He needed a challenge. COL WAS A PROBLEM. DRUGS WERE A PROBLEM. Look at all artists many died from drugs Stevie ray vaughn all in the 60s. Artists have drug problems 11:56

He wasn’t at his best for sure but he sounded like he was really tired and needed a good rest. I feel Elvis was better at hi last concert than this one. He started out slow and mumble his words in 77 but he got better as the concert went on he really showed he gave it his all. I honestly think he knew he was at the end of his life, he had been hurt by so many people I just believe he was ready to go. Elvis never really knew how much he was loved by his true loyal fans he thought no one would remember him, look at him now more popular now than ever. I seen an interview with Anita Woods daughter today on UA-cam it was really good, her daughter favors her a lot her name is Jonnita Barrett named after her father John and mom Anita. Well she has written a book about her mom and Elvis. I believe it’s called Once apon a time Elvis and Anita Wood. The show is Those Elvis Girls give it a listen. Sorry for rambling I do that. I have to disagree with you. You said he got addicted because he just liked to get high.
I dont think he was affected much about his gramdparents being cousins but what i think affected him is that his twin brother died at birth. There is a lot of research about what problems it causes when your twin dies and it applies to Elvis’s problems well.
Other thing, he was very poor as a child and his father was on a jail. I think those affect kid a lot considering how his life changed from poor to super rich. Also his mom was the most important people to him and he lost her too early. There was noneone who understood Elvis as well as his mom and his mom was really the one who taked care of him. Its not secret he was depressed his whole life after that death. He also started using drugs only after his mom died.
Not to mention he was the first to ever become global superstar. There were no blueprint how to live that life and how to deal with it. He had a ton of pressure on him and it only got worse when he started to get old as people were laughing about him becoming ”fat and forthy”. Most of the people start to gain weight and look older at that age.
And then all his other problems like failed marriage, he was also very sad about the fact he could never know if someone liked him as a person not just because he was Elvis. Thats tough when you cant trust anyone.
All the overworking. Like his memphis mafia told, he used medication to get sleep after shows and then medication to woke up and get in to the mood. He needed those to get thru his very very busy lifestyle. Parker and his doctor and everyone wanted him to keep touring and making money so ofcourse they gave him drugs snd wanted him to do it. They wouldnt let him rest.
Aaaand there was also the fact he was Elvis so he couldnt do any normal people stuff. He also had already done everything in life so he was very bored in life.
Not to mention they didnt let him do tours in other countries and that was very depressing to him. Also Parker was to creedy so he didnt get all good songs he could have done or movies like the star is born. Failed movie career was very tough for him.
So i wouldnt say he just wanted to get high thats all and was a ”junkie”…. He had very hard life and problems and there were wrong people around him. They took opportunities from him, didnt help him because they wanted the money, and overall he was prisoner of his own fame. Yes it was also his own fault, but there is reasons why he got addicted and needed help.

I agree this was not a strong vocal performance.
However, he did have some good performances in 76.
So for those commenters saying his voice just wasn’t strong at this point, that’s not true.
His voice was still strong at times in 76. I have heard concerts in 73 and even 71 where his voice didn’t sound particularly strong.
It’s not unusual for the human voice to just be weaker on some days. Great singers learn to work around those days and manage it.

yeah l agree Elvis seemed a bit flat and out of breath, Elvis made no attempt to hit the high notes at the end of most of his songs instead leaving it to the band to finish it, maybe he knew he was having a bad day and picked a few safe songs like "Love me tender" and "blue Christmas" and "funny how time slips away" l think life was taking its toll and with his Drug problem and Health issues and knowing this book was coming out would of taken the wind out of Elvis sails for sure, This should of been the time for Elvis to take along break get himself some help to get clean check into a health farm and fire tom parker, he had already started to clear out his closet getting ride of some hangers on,
Elvis needed to make these decisions himself and stick by them he needed protecting from himself

No but look at his mother and how she died look at her dependence on barbiturates and alcohol. I would say drug/ alcoholism dependence could run in a family. So that might have played a role in his drug abuse. The doctor he had didn't help. However I am not believer that the drugs choose you everyone has to decide to start doing drugs on their own unless someone's holding a gun to your head. Which in Elvis's case was definitely not happening. 😢

I think you might be misguided.. As a retired% teacher of biology and human anatomy and physiology, the genetic percentage according to Punnett square, is 25%. And if the mother is a carrier and manifest the disorder, the percentage for a son to inherit goes up to 50% because both her X chromosomes have the genetic defect and sons only get their one X chromosome from their mother because of course the father contributes the y chromosome, which in this case does not carry the genetic defect. Just my two cents worth. (Judy C.)

He was bored to death ...
.no challenge ...the same towns and cities ....wen challenged how gud was he .....! Its not hard to see why Elvis went the way he did ....the one nighters were turning out like his latter movies ...
And yes too many vegas shows ....and why im sorry did these band intros drag on and on ...

You are so right about some of his song selection. I would've been so hyped to see Elvis live, but disappointed at the same time that he selected some cover songs that are mediocre. You also need to understand the perspective of someone in the 70's. They grew up on the 50's and early 60;s hits. That was Elvis to them. That's what made them fall in love with Elvis. I'm sure many people were disappointed.

I'm not sure, but you seem to be digressing in your contextual and comprehensive knowledge where Elvis Presley is concerned.
Hey, I get it....being consistent and steadfast in one's convictions is not always easy when one can be easily swayed here or there by differing and controversial points of view and personal conundrums.
Let me emphasize that most fans do not "blindly" follow Elvis Presley and ignore that he was human like everyone else. The difference is, he was on a different level to most and the same would apply today. It's hard to understand how someone goes about their lives unless we have actually walked a mile or three in their shoes. It's easier to look from a distance, via books and interviews, or supposed interactions and guesstimate and assume he must've done this or that, surely. Just because that's what some of you would have, doesn't mean EP did. It's not rocket science, folks, it's human nature - YOURS that needs questioning. Not his.
Where the Memphis Mafia is concerned, we can safely exclude Billy Smith, possibly Marty Lacker, from the category of "users and betrayers". Same with Charlie Hodge and Larry Geller as they were part of EP's possé, but not necessarily the MM.
Genetic health issues were real for EP, there's no direct evidence that his grandparents being first cousins had anything to do with it (compare that to many English and other European cultures who were marrying their own brothers and sisters). He had myriad health issues, simple as that. No need to look for something that's not there, eh.
As for "drugs", I'm presuming you're referring to illicit substances? That it was not impossible for someone who only had to snap his fingers and get anything he wanted? Nothing is impossible but that's neither here nor there either - no direct evidence of it. By now everyone should be a bit more educated on most aspects of the life of one of the most photographed, written about, and scrutinised entertainers on Earth. Rather than flowing and ebbing depending on who's wave one decides to jump on, best to ask oneself why that is. You either understand or you don't, regardless. Simples.
