    I love when he’s SO into the music that he just takes off on a total ad lib! I was just thinking the exact same thing when u said his band had to be prepared for anything! Like the part where he does the “now that’s Polk (drum) salad” (drum drum) Ronnie Tutt had to really be paying attention to be sure he got those beats in for him! That goes all the way back to early in his career when he did Hound Dog on one of the early shows (Sullivan maybe?) and at the end he slowed it down to a really slow version and later, one of the guys, (I think JD Fontana) asked him what made him think to do that without telling them first, or something like that, and Elvis said something like aw I knew y’all would get it! Even watching that performance u can see Scotty and Bill totally watching Elvis the whole time to see what he was gonna do. Elvis was always the one in control n I loved it! ❤❤

    He was fantastic in Vegas, especially the early 70's. He'd get moving, especially to Polk Salad and you thought he would dislocate all the bones in his body. Plus the audience all moved with him. Amazing.

    The Performance is so Great..nobody looked...sounded or moved like Elvis...he was totally unique...add his looks and Charisma onto that...He certainly was in a league of his own...As I've said before the title of King of RnR under estimates his ability to sing anything, as he was reported to say "I don't sound like anyone "....King of music maybe more Apt...then I'm bias....been hooked on Elvis since the early 1970s

    I’ve always loved how he could use his vocal gyrations to energize his band and set the rhythm and feel he was after. That’s where that chunky, jivey sound comes from as Ronnie and James take off with it on the drums and guitar.

    I think what made all of this "ELVIS" legendary stuff was because of this dynamic, .....Elvis himself wasnt aware of how great HE was, how talented HE was, how much charisma, style, charm HE had. His humility and/or unawareness if you will, of all these traits he possessed, allowed all of these wonderful traits to flow out of him. He never took himself too seriously. He never could see what all the big fuss was about him because he didnt see for himself how great he really was.

  • @mrsongman

    It's one of those songs where you really need to watch the video and not just hear the song. Only a true performer like Elvis could go out and do that song like that (of course all due respect to Tony) with all those vocalisations and crazy moves (...and somehow look cool as f*** rather than ridiculous 😅)

    • @ElvisistheMan_
      @ElvisistheMan_  4 місяці тому +8

    Love this man. His sound and movements were natural and genuine....beautiful beast of a man, artist and entertainer. People hate on him out of jealous and misplaced resentment.
    Elvis Presley: the one artist others find difficult to emulate and imitate. Good try and effort, though. That in itself says something extraordinary - EP was and will always be the Original, no copies required. King Emperor ✌🏼💯⚡❤️

    Elvis was charismatic as all get out. That brother had that funky vibe going. You are absolutely right. I believe Ebony or Jet magazine did the interview. I hate that some 5th rate rap group would call him racist in that 90’s song. Although I’ve heard in more recent interviews with that rapper seemed to walk back his statements. I have to agree you…this is indeed a better performance. Thanks a lot for posting this bro!

    It's the Concho jumpsuit here. The TTWII version was the Chain suit. He is the only one who could do things on stage - no matter what it was - & it would look right, be enjoyable, fun, & look normal. If anyone else tried some of the stuff that he did naturally, they would look foolish.

    Elvis put everything he had into "That's The Way It Is" He was quoted as saying it was the best movie he ever made. During this time his life was great, and the cameras were on him. He wasn't aware yet, that he was never going to tour the world, that his wife would leave him, that record sales were going to slump, his touring was going to ramp up to pay for the Colonel's gambling debts, and his excessive spending, his bad eating habits and drug use were going to catch up to him. His visit with Nixon isn't talked about much, but I think that adventure opened his eyes as well. Walking the streets, the girls weren't trying to tear his clothes off, for the most part, he wasn't even noticed. Found his records in the oldie's section of the record shop. We see a physically, and mentally different Elvis in "On Tour". At a local theater, they were showing "That's The Way It Is". and "On Tour" back to back. I went with a friend of mine who was also an Elvis. We both noticed the change. The exception to the notable decline was Madison Square Garden, he seemed like his old self. Then Via Satellite, he seemed even more troubled...

    • @Elvista
      @Elvista 4 місяці тому +1

      Elvis divorced P'zilla Wagner Beaulieu and was already separated from her before that - his idea, not hers. Unfortunately, she took Lisa Marie away - that and his mama gone were what drastically changed his outlook on life going forward. Nothing to do with the ex-wife.
      As for his "eating habits and drug use".... perhaps, you need to learn a bit more on that, sir

    This is my favorite era of Elvis and you are so right! What a treat it would have been to have seen that in person. I am 62 and have been a fan for a long time, but not to the extent I am today! A little too young to hit his concerts or go to Vegas. You made a statement about trying to get the owners of his concert films to release better quality products. What can we do as fans to encourage that?
    I love how he got into his music...full throttle! For sure, Elvis is the Man!!! Thanks again, David.

    Yes. What you said about Elvis' best performances being in Vegas. (I know you know this) But look at how crazy the crowds are in Elvis on Tour all the way until his last performances. I've always been astounded with how crazy the audiences are when he does Teddy Bear in particular and his talking portion at the end of the Omaha show in 1977. People are practically climbing on each other to get to him. Then of course in the 50's the crowds are the most insane.

    What a thrilling performance, explosive, oh boy, he had it ALL and knew it and played with it, and he sure challenged the other genuises on stage with him🎶.
    And what a natural mover, at his best and sexiest with only himself as the choreographer🕺💥.
    Great!!

    Elvis gave a brand new Cadillac to a Black woman. He didn't have one racist bone in his body. He was one of the most generous men if not thee most generous man on the planet back then...

    The Elvis film completely converted me. As Lisa Marie said, it's a really important film, not just because it was her dad.
    My daughter has chosen to study Music for one of her GCSE's (we're in the UK). I'm so excited because as party of her study, she will need to study Elvis and his influence on modern music. Maybe they will even be able to make her a fan?

    I've thought that this was his best Polk Salad Annie! It seems a little more raw. Love Elvis!

    Now that's what you call "Swamp Rock", bro. And it perfectly illustrates the "edge" that I always thought songs like "Polk Salad", "See See Rider", "Suspicious Minds", etc, lost when Elvis started touring regularly after 1970. They just became routine parts of the set list to more or less be glossed over like one of the old 50's tunes to make way for something else. Compare any of the songs I just mentioned being performed in TTWIT as opposed to "On Tour" and there's a radical difference in the way Elvis performs them. Those songs never get that special "Elvis thing" that he put on them in 1970. Like he just became bored with them after doing them night after night on the road. Understandable. But when you see how he used to perform them, it was our loss.

    David I hope 🙏 ❤️ all is going well for you. Imo, you said something about fans, etc. In the beginning. Don't ever listen to negative comments about anything. You know what you're doing and that's why you are so loved and appreciated. Please 🙏 keep up your great work. Rose 🙏 ❤️. Gosh heaven knows I'd miss you and many others. Some people could be jealous. ❤

    The way he moves to music is absolutely incredible! He felt it from his head to his toe. I love everything about Elvis Presley.. Side note: he says in this video that it was hair in his mouth. 😊

    I agree! This was a much better performance. He's more relaxed, and you couldn't really see it but his band had to be watching Elvis real close to see what he was going to do. Elvis really enjoyed himself in this. I absolutely loved it!!

    This is my favorite performance of Polk Salad Annie. So energetic and funky!👍👍The reason most black people don't like Elvis is because of generational lies and perception put on him from uneducated ignorance and jealousy.
