In the 70'S. We pulled into portsmouth for repairs.. my shipmates and I took.train to London in our dress blues crackerjacks.. we started walking in front of these men We stop. Snapped a salute to both guards.. he returned our salute with sword ... British Marines were behind us. They thanked us fotr the respect . Duty officer came out. Saw us chatting with marines. We saw him. As customary with NATO officers we saluted as well as marines. He was impressed with our respect to his guards. Couple hours later.. we were with the marines chatting with us. Making us feel welcomed. Officer came in. Put some money on.the bar. Ttold waitresd take the pints to our table.. we asked him to cover.. he was still in uniform. Marines told us. He cannot mingle with enlisted WHY,??? Who cares we thank them all. Believe it we were mostly sober. Showed us to correct train back to portsmouth.. great time

Based on this 30 second video showing one angle you’ve determined that there are no American army personnel around and that no army personnel ever arrived. For example, there's one poster who makes videos about fish and other sea creatures. He deliberately mispronounces the word "anemone" as 'a MEN O me' and recieves hundreds and hundreds of comments about it on each Short where it takes place. He's only one example, so just imagine the algorithm boost to all of the channels that do the same thing!! I'm glad you brought this up, whether it's happening here or not.

True. How would tourists like it if we turned up at their place of work and started pawing them with dirty hands. Plenty out there never wash their hands. The horses react because they don't like the smell of tourists. I've never been down there for 54 years, people were more considerate then unlike today with all these self entitled Wokes roaming around doing what they want despite being warned not too. I realize that during WW2, once the US join the war, and the British were faced with trying to learn all the different uniforms Americans arrived in as not only did they differe by branch of service but whether they were officers, non-commissioned officers, or troops, and even uniforms troops wore at the time could vary, then there were dress uniforms vs various other uniforms depending on duty or station and not only dud uniforms differ for climate and location, but also all of the above changed according to season, and often what determined when a unit changed from Summerton winter wear was dependent on their division leaders or their military branch and not happen according to when other branches or divisions changed. In top of that, while the US had been gearing up its military industry production for several years, at least to provide British and others before Pearl Harbor, since they were not building up a massive number of men they needed to dress, when the US declared war in both the Pacific and in Europe, and Reservists and Nationsl Guard were called up, there were basic field dress for all but other uniforms were in shorter supply leaving many Reservists and National Guard with uniforms that were out of date for active military. In top if that, often ceremonial or dress uniforms for even the lowest of rank were decorated to what appeared to many in the European theater to be that worn by much higher rank duevto decoration. Given that these were meant to be flashy and impressive as the main duty performed were marching in parades. This was exceptionally confusing, as one can guess, when to the British solder faced with a sea if confusing visuals with uniforms that signified many things but often not what tĥhe British thought it did. Of course they quickly learned then meaning of collar rank and insignia, often they were hard to see at a distance. Initially the British just started saluting anyone in a uniform they did not recognize. Maybe they still follow the same policy?

It is just respect and our custom. I now live in South Spain and anyone good to me or giving way for me, I salute with my hand to my head and a slight head tilt for courtsey. I am not enlisted or active anymore in any Army. Voluntarily or enlisted. It is a custom of respect that sticks with me.

It’s obvious people commenting are not understanding the statement. The salute was sloppy. The palm of his hand facing down ie American style. The British salute with palm facing outwards, to signify no concealed weapons when nobles surrendered to other nobles after a battle.

I am of course incredibly biased, BUT our Military are smarter, more disciplined & immaculate than any other Military I've ever seen wether in full dress uniform or regular fatigues.
They have a tremendous presence & you can feel they're pride in the regiment & they're uniform 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
The American soldier was dressed as a ninja, that is why no one saw him.
I kept watching this video in repeat waiting for the American to show….
He was going to turn up but he had an interview with ITV in an hour, So he thought, "f*** it!"...and got his British pal to stand in for him instead, hoping that no one would notice!😂

You salute the Queens/Kings Commission. Hence why this British Officer (note: not the man) was saluted.
He is a Royal Marine Commando based on the uniform and not an American. No American soldier would be on Buckingham palace grounds for one thing and two American soldiers other than paratroopers wear berets the last time I checked.
I read it as, "there was a salute while he waited for the American personal to arrive". Not that there was American personnel being saluted. Either way, it could have been worded better.
He's from the Royal Fusiliers Regiment Of California in the Kingdom Of America. 🤠🤠
It’s obvious people commenting are not understanding the statement.
The salute was sloppy. The palm of his hand facing down ie American style. The British salute with palm facing outwards, to signify no concealed weapons when nobles surrendered to other nobles after a battle.
