Thanks so much for this video! I have my whole apartment to do but wasn’t sure if I could do in sections over a few days like this but this has answered my question. I’m attempting to do it myself 😊👍🏼
It's always interesting to see how other places in the world view and use products. I have been an installer for 14 years and we actually do mostly glue down vinyl planks, floating products are only just really taking off now.
How important is it for the floor to be level. Everyone keeps talking about how important it is but the way I see it, the planks are so thin and flexible won't they conform to the shape of the floor?
@@shevinsacrey5862 thinner vinyl planking will follow the floor but it's more about the finished look and the manufacturer aswell as the country it's being installed in will have a specific standard it's to be installed to for warranty purposes.
Hello Mr. Jones, We had pressure sensitive glue down vinyl tile put in our home. The tile looks nice, its durable and we like it. It was down for about 4 years without a problem. Unfortunately some of the tiles came up. We had the contractor come and fix the problem. Now it has been about 6 months and some of the same tiles are coming up again. Needless to say I'm irritated. The contractor did not clean the old glue off the subfloor before regluing the tile. Would that keep the tile from sticking to the floor? What may have originally caused the tile to come up? Any information would be appreciated. Thank you
Hi, I'm a tile contractor in California and I just installed 1400 sq ft of Mannington 18 x 36 LVT Glue down. I have a few problems with lippage with some of the seams between the tiles. The floor was rolled with a 100 pd roller throughout the installation process but I still have a few areas with this problem. Do you have any ideas on how i can make these seams flush? Thanks, Todd
You can use any pressure sensitive. Just make sure you let it set. It usually turns clear. But when you touch it it'll be sticky but not transfer on to you.
Great video! I have a question, can I apply this directly over existing hardwood floors that no in the best of shape? What kind of prep would I need to do? Also what if eventually we decide to pull up the vinyl, would the adhesive damage the wood floors anymore?
I’ll be putting down 25 yr warranty 2mm LVP planks over the concrete slab in my home. It’s approximately 1,300 sqft. Is there anything that can be placed between the concrete and planks to insulate and soften the feel on our feet. Also, what glue would be the best for application?
I'm putting some surplus pieces of vinyl plank flooring on a large outdoor countertop under a patio, and I want to glue it to the plywood base of the counter. Could you recommend a glue to use that's available in small amounts? Will any common construction glue work? ie. Liquid Nails, Contact Cement, or ??? Also the vinyl planks have a thin dense foam backing, should I scrape that off before gluing or just glue as they are? Thanks!
@@jenniferfug5553 We ended up renting a concrete grinder for best adhesion. Wasn’t willing to risk it in a large commercial space, but I’ve since seen it done without grinding. Subfloor smoothness is very important though
Just glue a path about the doors with. Don't do while floor yet. And to start I'll cut 3 or 4 board so I have like 1/3,2/3 and a full or 1/4,1/2,3/4 and a full. Just put cut edge on the wall or doorway so you'll have factory edges touching next boards. Then when you get to end of room. You cut last piece to fit and the piece you cut off is now you next starter. That way you have minimal waste. Just keep seams at least 4 inches apart from each other.
Thank you for your video! Curious about the sub-flooring...we had someone come out to measure and give an estimate for 1200sq ft of glue-down vinyl and were told that another 1/4" plywood sub-floor layer was needed on top of the existing plywood flooring. He said it was required to do this for glue-downs. There are no sub-flooring issues that we're aware of so its not clear why another layer of sub-flooring would be needed (not to mention, the additional expense). What's on the floor right now is carpet and padding, with a couple areas of sheet vinyl. Is there a good reason to add a second layer of sub-flooring, or was he padding the cost of the job? Thanks for your time.
I'm covering a concrete slab on grade floor in a seaside cottage where flooding is always a possibility. Are there water proof adhesives that will stick if the floor is ever submerged?
Hey I liked your video. I’m an artist. I have a big sheet of thick paper, 4 feet x 5 feet. I want to glue it down to a sheet of Masonite. Will this glue that you used seep into the paper fibres from the back. Painting on front. Thanks!
As long as you let it tack up really good it can't seep. I love this about the glue, no cleanup basically because its not wet and doesn't get all over everything.
Hi! I was wondering.. how do you REMOVE glue-down LVP? Heat gun and floor scraper? I'm looking to replace that type of flooring which is currently in the kitchen and replace the carpet in the adjacent dining/living room for just one type of flooring to unify the space. Hoping there is a DIY way to do it! Thanks!!
I have this type of vinyl plank flooring using the glue method. I was told the glue was what is called pressure sensitive. I replaced a couple pieces after many years all that was needed was a razor knife to seperate the piece I wanted to remove and it just pulled right up. Also didn't have to add new glue as original glue was still tacky.
I have a DIY project I'm fixing to try and take on. I found some Mohawk Group Luxury Vinyl Planks for about a $1 sqft. and see it's suppose to be glued down. Could you share some insight as to what I getting into and what to expect as far as laying it proper so that no problem occur? I guess I should have asked first what you think about the product and is it durable, and are there any problems you know of about the product? I just figured with your knowledge you aware of some of the issue with different product and heard feedback from installers. Thanks in advance.
Great video! I want to install this type of flooring on my concrete basement floor. The problem is the concrete around the perimeter of the floor is not smooth like the rest of the floor because I had a sump pump installed. The concrete they used probably wasn’t mixed right because ever since it has a a dusty, sandy residue on top no matter how much I vacuum it. Do you think the adhesive will stick to that part of the concrete?
Hi jones! I have a question for you. My wife and I Are building a small loft apartment in our metal barn while we wait for our house to be built. The subfloor is 5/8" chipboard or OSB. There are a couple high spots from the joists under the floor. I would rather not deal with a floor leveling product since its only a temporary setting for us but my wife doesn;t want to walk on the OSB and potentially getting splinters. I've been thinking about gluing down vinyl flooring. Is this an option with a couple high spots? Will the flooring flex enough and bond to the floor without needing a leveling product? I appreciate the thoughts.
Its not an ideal situation, but if the high spots a gradually sloped then you should be fine. You can also put a second layer of ply over the 5/8 and plane or sand out the high spots. I'd afraid of sanding 5/8 because its kind of thin. GOOD LUCK!
Good video. Looking to put this in my kitchen. Was wondering, can we install right over the old sheet vinyl? Or did we need to rip up the old vinyl sheet first?
I need to cover a small area with vinyl / via glue but it's over BIN primer anyone know what type of glue will adhere to the Zinsser BIN primer? it's only a 20" x 30" area. thank you
I guess it would work. I use all different types of glue, liquid nails, PL, Bostik's, Ect. Just make sure you remove any padding on the floor. You need to glue directly to the back of the flooring not to the padding.
Can I glue this product over top of a sheet linoleum that has a tile pattern to it? Will the glue adhere to the sheet linoleum and will the old tile pattern read through the new flooring?
These glues stick to almost anything so that's not a problem. You have to make sure that the sheet linoleum is completely glued down. Some sheet products are only perimeter glued, so the middle of the floor is not attached and this won't work. So you have to determine how the old floor is installed . Cut a small square out in the middle of a room and see how comes up, see if there is any glue under it. If it has a distinctive grout joint, meaning you can feel the grout joint, then it will probably telegraph through any vinyl floor that doesn't have a rigid core or that isn't at least 5mill thick. If it were me I would probably remove the linoleum or go with a thicker floating type of vinyl like Lifeproof or Nucore. These products can go right over anything and grout lines won't telegraphy through. Let me know if you have any more questions. I hope this helps. Tim
Great video -- thank you! Is it possible to install vinyl plank flooring over a 1 or 2 mil. underlayment? I'd like to "soften" the feel of the hard LVP which I'm planning to install over my concrete basement.
Only Nucore let’s you use an extra pad with their preinstalled cork back. Most of the other brands already have a padding attached and you can’t use a second one it makes it too soft which will lead to your seams opening up all over the floor.

Yes the glue will stick to the wax but may not penetrate to the floor underneath. So you have to get the wax off by sanding or stripping. You can use a chemical stripper or try to sand it off but it’s gotta come off before installing the new floor.

Nail or screw any loose boards then skim the whole floor. Look for any kind of feather finish. And use a long flat edge trowel. I use a 24"
