- Mike Swigunski is a 33-year-old nomadic entrepreneur who moved to Tbilisi, Georgia from the U.S. He is able to take advantage of tax benefits from living abroad and a low cost of living that allows him to work as little or as often as he likes, and he still manages to make $275,000 a year. As a result he has traveled to 100 countries, can afford a two-story apartment, and has a private chef come six times a week to cook for him.

Why is every digital nomad’s job running a business that teaches other people to be a digital nomad?
Exactly, people selling courses earn 50 times more on those courses than on the actual thing they teach in them :) We are at the point where everyone wants to teach and no one wants to do an actual work, and that will change very soon.

Not in Cali You will lose half of your income with taxes...
If your income is in dollars or euros, then Georgia is a good place to live but if your income is in GEL, then it is terribly difficult to live here. It is much more difficult for locals to live in Georgia than for foreigners. That is why Europe and America are full of Georgian immigrants.
I think the same is true for almost every country in the world except the US and some European countries. You can travel any Asian or African country and you will be rich with your salary. But locals don’t have your salary from developed country.

If you wanna be successful, you most take responsibility for your emotions, not place the blame on others. In addition to make you feel more guilty about your faults, pointing the finger at others will only serve to increase your sense of personal accountability. There's always a risk in every investment, yet people still invest and succeed. You must look outward if you wanna be successful in life.
The first step to successful investing is figuring out your goals and risk tolerance either on your own or with the help of a financial professional but is very advisable you make use of a professional like I did. If you get the facts about saving and investing and follow through with an intelligent plan, you should be able to gain financial security over the years and enjoy the benefits of managing your money.

So this type of people outsource their income from already wealthy people in wealthy countries, come to countries where taxes are low, contribute very little to the local economy and local social life as they don't integrate, speak only english. Meanwhile because they have so much money and don't know better they overpay for real estate and rents so that drives up the price for everyone and pushes out locals because they can't afford it anymore. Digital nomads are a pain, if you want to move to another country you gotta bring something for the place, not just take from it
You are absolutely right
You might not have a hundred million dollars to invest, but that doesn’t mean your money can’t share in the same opportunities available to others. You work hard for your money; make sure your money works hard for you.
The wealth you pass to the next generation can have a profound impact on your heirs, providing educational opportunities, the capital to start a business, or financial support to your grandchildren.
To manage investment risk, consider maintaining a broad diversification of your investments that reflects your personal risk tolerance, time horizon, and the nature of your financial goal. Remember, diversification is an approach to help manage investment risk. It does not eliminate the risk of loss if security prices decline.Because investing can be complicated, consider working with a financial professional to help guide you on your wealth-building journey.

So I’ve lived in Georgia for a total of 6 years, coming in and out since 2010. Anyone considering moving here should know Georgians consider foreigners to either be tourists/guests or citizens, and you’re only a citizen of you’re married to a Georgian. Georgians do not consider foreigners as residents. Even though I am fluent in Georgian, have worked in Georgian companies, and visited every region here, ok still a “guest” after 6 years. In other words, don’t expect to integrate as it’s a closed society, and I actually understand and agree with Georgians about this.

I actually don't see a problem with this. As long as you have money, you can live a great life in Georgia, not sure why it would matter to "integrate". you can always have friends from your own country

People dont realize that Georgia is not only cheaper but also much safer than US or most of Europe. The only downside is low salaries. So looking for a job here is a bad idea.

I want to stay in Georgia... I came to home in Israel yesterday from Tbilisi, i travelled around a week , i looked this country more slowed that Israel. Now I'm learn frontend development, and my big dream - to came for remote work in Tbilisi. Thnks!

I am living in Cali Colombia
But still head back occasional to to St louis

Thank you for the video and info. How do you manage your healthcare? Do you buy insurance there? If so, how much is it ?
What insurance) dude makes 275k a year. The most expensive doctor appointment in Georgia is 50$ per visit. Whole mouth full of teeth to fix from scratch with implants will cost about 5k
Health insurance is somewhat an American concept. Most countries you can just pay as you go when you need it, most countries have affordable healthcare.
Congrats, man. I'm surprised you managed to stay in shape after tons of Khinkalis and khachapuris.
Always a UA-camr or somebody selling something.
Yeah... gets old. Wish they'd pick more real people rather than ads. Especially for a course seller type.
Wow, I can't believe this vide ocame out just last month , which was around the time I started asking myself, can I really upend my life and move abroad? Since then it's kind of been on the backburner of a thought and watching this video was actually really inspiring and re-assuring. I'll have to revisit that idea again....it's either Georgia or Latvia is what I'm looking at....
look at Croatia
then be ready to be in the new Russia also?
Also noticed the women walking in the street. I haven’t seen a single land whale
Used to live there for my dad’s work, loved the city sm it’s beautiful
600$ a month 2,500 square feet, dude I’m in Houston paying 1,225$ for 1,000 square feet and marble counters I must know more about that country
Triple that in California.
yeah but if wouldnt be making that much money living there. Peoples average is $8k a year there lol. To live like this you still need to be making money online or somehow so you are getting money from like "united states" people.
That is cheaper than Northeast USA
The rent here has increased since the war began, it's actually ridiculous now
@@fly4561 What about in other cities like Kutaisi?
Mike, in Tbilisi Georgia, how do you compare the Vera neighbourhood to the Saburtalo neaighbourhood? I have asked this question because I have heard that Saburtalo is more expat friendly.
If he were really wealthy, he would live where he wanted. It is really cheap there because the people are not paid well.
Born and raised in Chicago and am thinking about moving to Tbilisi like you did and work off my computer.
My question:
I want to keep my Chase account here in the U.S.
Is it easy to open a bank account there in Tbilisi and have money transferred from a USA bank account into a Georgia bank account?
How logistically would I access my money in my USA Chase account and get it into my Georgia bank account?
Thank you!
Great video, Mike. I'm planning my trip to Turkey and Georgia and the other Balkans.
This guy's footage can be found on Canva as stock footage. I thought he looked super familiar lol.
haha yeah, I have a lot of footage/photos on UnSplash (connected via Canva)! :-)
thanks for this video!!
I would like for CNBC to show the other side of the picture. How about showing some people who moved back to the U.S. because living abroad was not better than living in the U.S. Showing both sides of the picture is better to me.
I agree with your statement, there is no perfect place imo. I have no desire to live in that little poor Euro town. I would be bored.
find them and enjoy watching and feeling the balance you need. I live in Europe for over 20 years and for me there is no comparison. I love the less stressful life.

Is it still accurate to pay under $500/month for a food budget including a private chef cooking for you six days a week?
Tbilisi is awesome. People are so warm and caring which is a nice change from the people in the Northern Virginia and Washington DC area.
I went for a week last year and I will be visiting for a few weeks this July while looking at real estate in the process.
Georgia is such a wonderful country!

I love this video. My girlfriend and I were literally talking about this night. You can move to Mexico, Georgia, etc and have a much better life for you and your children.
It's complicated, though. Language, income, etc.
No way you are considering moving to Mexico 💀. My dad gas Mexican friends and they always talk about how they never ever want to go back to mexico.

With $250k a year you can live good in Missouri, even in Florida and you don’t have to move to a still developing country.

Thanks for the informative video Mike but let me share as a local, that living in Tbilisi can be tough if the income is in GEL only...
I’m looking at that place now or Portugal
Both are great, but Portugal has some NICE beaches!
Portugal has been the go-to destination for many years now, but after the pandemic, it has exploded. Now it's become very expensive as many investors have moved in and brought up prices.

So what service does this guy actually provide?
Pipe dream is what it looks like🫣🤔
Sigh, living like a king while taking advantage of cost arbitrage. digital nomads are exploiting people in the local economy, let's not get it twisted.
Yea, best those people he hires not have jobs.
how is this exploitation he is stimulating the Georgian economy, also Georgia's tax policies are there to attract foreign capital, Georgia is competing with other countries to acquire "high Value" citizens who will add value to the country.
American telling people how much money he makes, well that's unusual!
Someone have interest to send young people live aboard and that they will lose residents benefits in their home country, they call "Digital Nomad" but the real name is "Refugee" without benefits.
Each and every to their own. Some are building their dreams by diving for gold in the Bering Sea out of Nome, Alaska. Others, like myself, decided to work around and include as many family members as possible. This approach has excluded wandering off to the far corners of the earth by myself; too lonely and boring.

Lots of BS in here. Running a business from Georgia is NOT 10 times less expensive then in the US unless you're King of the Morons.
Easy to run multiple businesses from Georgia? First of all no business is easy to run and multiples businesses is even harder even when on site. Second the typical 9-5 US workday is 10 pm to 4 am in Georgia. So this guy say his typical day is "I get up in the morning and..." is BS unless he has a time machine or wormhole access.
A dude "projected" to make $275k is concerned about living in a place that costs less than the US? And BTW, many cheap places to live in the US. And FYI look at total costs and you'll find other countries cost about the same. The big factor is lifestyle. People can spend less in other countries, but could have also spent less in the US.
Why would he say such silly things? Perhaps having a business that motivates people to move to other countries?
