Recently configured plex to run at start up as well as Tautulli to run as a Daemon at startup. Definitely the best way to run Tautulli!
For your IP tracking mention you should look into the killstream scripts if you have Plexpass. I set up a whitelist of machine ids to keep people from sharing information. It takes a little extra work to get it set up but this allows them to stream anywhere from the same device, useful for cell phones who's ip changes a lot, but keep it locked to a particular person.

You obviously know your sh*t. That is exactly what one wants in an IT consultant. What else makes a perfect IT guy? OCD. You may have it, but that's a good thing here. Your voice is important for UA-cam tutorials and your voice is almost perfect. No drastic volume changes or tone variations. You are not monotone but neither are you screaming one moment for effect and then dropping down to a whisper. Your description herein of Tautulli makes me want to see a bit more but makes me lean against my using what few 73 year old brain cells I want to commit to learning another secondary program. Filebot for one quarter is enough for me, so I guess I'll revisit Tautulli come spring! Thanks, I subscribed.

Nice vidoe. I guess the bigger question is if this application/tool is sending your "Library Statistics" out and selling your data? Im not trying to flex my plex stats from my 100TB media server. but siri & alexa connectivity sounds great!!

be nice to see the cpu useage or memory useage on plex while away from server so you can keep track on it if something was using 100% cpu usesage what was the problem so when you get home your able to solve the issue
Any chance you can do a video on how to set up Tautulli on Synology? It worked well when I used it on my plex was on my PC but I migrated recently and I can seem to get it to work on Synology w docker.
I have this set up but for some reason it has none of the metadata from Plex and isn't making any new metadata. I must be missing something. Please help.

Is there a good video on how to install Tautulli on Windows 10? Also will it monitor if you have multiple servers or just the computer it’s running on?
It just takes a few simple steps to install and there are two options for windows but I prefer the first option, if you want to check out the second option visit [Tautulli wiki], and click on "Installation > Windows", otherwise just follow these steps.

First Option (easy)
1- Install the latest Python 2 release using the Windows x86-64 MSI installer.
- python.org/downloads/release/python-2716/
2- Download Tautulli zip file from github.com/Tautulli/Tautulli/zipball/master
3- Double click Tautulli.py
4- Tautulli will now load in your browser, or just go to localhost:8181
If you want it to run on startup, then you need to "install as daemon", you can find information about how to do that on Tautulli wiki > "install as demon"

Here is a technical question for you.. My situation is my hard drive full of movies for plex crashed and failed.. I no longer have access to that hard drive, however I did back up all my Tautulli folder. Is there a way I can important that backup to view all the movies I once had.. so therefore I could work on getting the exact movies I had before? I hope this makes sense.. This would be so huge for me.
I do also have a complete backup of my plex media server folder, but I did not back up the settings in the registry.. I just need options on how I could possibly see all the movies I once had..

i dont know if you know this but plex has a max streams pre user thing in it. So if you only want them using it 1 stream pre user at a time you can. You can set it from 1 stream to 18 or more streams pre user at any one time.

I’ve been using Tautulli fir a long time, before they changed the name to that. Runs on my ReasyNAS 516 along with Plex.

you Tautulli time usage graph looks almost the same as mine. kinda weird
my first reason is the Newsletter Agent . All the Users became a eMail whats new on my Server
Tautulli is the only thing I miss, since I went over to Emby.
I am toying with moving back to Emby. My main beef is that Plex seems to treat IPTV as an evil thing. I am also having issues with Plex (now) more so than emby with discovery. The sad thing is I haven't even added my second NAS to my server.....curious as to why you moved over to Emby from Plex?
@@RichiRicheh There were a lot of things that I'm not going to name or this will turn into a rant.
So I will just name my TOP 3 reasons:
- Emby works offline. If I have an internet outage I don't need to go in and disable "plex-home" and give my credentials to everybody else.
- Emby respects separated libraries. Just because I have let's say Movies and Anime-movies.
- Emby seems to be puting the money towards feature requests rather than becoming a provider of third party content.

I run PMS through my 48 TB Synology DS418Play.
Plex works great, especially with Hardware Transcoding enabled.
Can I integrate Tautully with this setup.

With #1, you can set a concurrent stream limit per user through Plex settings
But not if you allow unlimited streams if they come from the same IP, but want to kill streams if started from a concurrent different IP ;) Tautulli + Plex Script allows this.

Dim my lights when movie starts, raise lights when stopped or paused.
Post new additions to a twitter feed and blog.
Add annotations points to my grafana charts.
Ping healthchecksIO when new item is added, if no ping in 48 hours, I know my automated download system isn't working.
Pause NZBGet when someone starts watching and start it up again when no one is watching to conserve processing power.
Turn a red bulb on when plex is being used, and off when it isn't.
Weekly newsletter every Fri at 3pm of all new additions that week. Daily newsletter at 6am of TV shows added the night before (also use healthchecksIO with this to receive a notification if newsletter does not get sent out.)
Check out IFTTT integration for a bunch of other stuff you can do.
That's pretty cool stuff, does that work natively in Tautulli or is that all stuff based out of IFTTT Integration?
@@funnyshit54321 Most of it uses Tautulli's notification system with it's built in IFTTT support. For the few things that aren't IFTTT, I use the Webhooks notification which can be used with any API.
Most of the stuff that uses IFTTT, I am moving in house using Node-Red so that it will work without internet, plus it is exponentially more customizable than IFTTT but a little more complex as the trade-off.
If you want something simple like IFTTT but almost as easy, look into Stringify. Tuatulli doesn't have built in support for it, but the webhooks work just fine.

For me would be Newsletters. Every Monday at 5 PM Tautulli sends out a weekly recap of shows/movies added during the week. So my users can see at a glance, latest releases incase they dont login every day.
Tautulli Android app isn't made by the same developer. It's ok and I find myself going directly to the web version most of the time anyway.

I haven't had a bad experience but I can see the headache that it can cause so I only share with those in my immediate family. I guess I'm just trying to avoid any issues.

Answer to your question, "Is there a better way to track usage on your server?"...No, I don't think so. It's open source as well. Limitless on features that can evolve over time. I agree with list of valuable features with Tatooine, oops Tautulli. Too much Star Wars, haha.
I would like to add 1 more cool feature I use. The ability to automatically create and send newsletters. I use it to send weekly and monthly updates of my movies to my Plex friends list. My movie NAS turns on and goes online automatically from Friday -> Sunday evening. In Tautulli, I set the exact day/time to create, then send the weekend entertainment newsletters. Mine go out 10 minutes after the NAS boots. It even links with a FREE Cloudinary account, allowing all your movie update cover images to be stored in the cloud. This allows the HTML email newsletter sent out, to NOT link to your own private web server, but run standalone, straight from the email, similar to how Redbox, Netflix and your public library all do it.

Hello...I have plex and I have different folders to watch content. Recently I tried to add new folders and I keep getting a message that says "your changes could not be saved". Do you know what may cause that and is there a fix.
You get tracking and history (without IP's) when you subscribe to the Plex Pass.

This is not a plug in. This is a different software which watching plex media server daemon for all the statistics mentioned above.

I'm here via an online tutorial "killstream.py via Tautulli" I'm new to Plex "intermediate" if you will server setup. Having a WOL server, I'm looking for a way to eliminate active feeds that have been paused for X amount of time - or Fire TV sticks that don't officially close plex and keeps your server awake. Does anyone have any suggestions? thanks!

Why can’t Plex just implement this themselves?
It wouldn't surprise me if that was the direction they were going. They have started the process with the new dashboard. I doubt they will get all the features, like newsletters and 3rd party alerts, but the full metrics will most likely be implemented at some point. That's just IMO.
It's not so awesome seeing a logo I designed without being paid, being used all over the internet. I made the tautulli logo.
