I did the same for my shop last month. The lights are great. No more shadows and lathe area is awesome. I had no issue with clips either. The lights weigh next to nothing so need to worry about studs. Like the laser and string method you used. I was lazy and eyeballed it since they followed a seam I am going to paint over but would do it your way if my space was not so crammed with stuff, tho mine took me 20 minutes after initial rewiring old ceiling light.
cool, this was the first thing I did when I built my workshop. I did have fluorescent tubes installed but their light were nothing compared to the led tubes I picked. I totally recommend this project to anyone with a shop, it's much safer to work in well-lit shop

I'm still searching for a budget friendly option that looks like it will last. I've heard good things about American Green Lights but they're a bit more expensive.

I haven't measured the power consumption myself, but they're spec'd at 40w per light.
