I like the fact that I can use the tools I already have. So many of these DIY videos show a shop full of expensive machines that I don't want or need on an everyday basis.
Right? "And here's how we make our diy shaker cabinet faces, let's just go over here and set the dado on my table saw, then adjust sliding miter saw for the rails" Srsly bro? I'm here with a circular saw and a hand router.
Exactly...all these videos are titled "Easy" or "For Beginners" but then they want me to have table saw. Ummm...I wish I had a table saw AND room for one, but I just don't:)
I thought your comment about professional woodworkers having an aneurysm was hilarious. I often think that about my work. Thanks for sharing. Looks great.
Brother. I am a wood worker/ kitchen builder. Everything you did was "wrong", but I like it. your end result turned out pretty good. I'll probably riff on some of your ideas in the future. I'm always open to new ideas and techniques.
That's very nice of you. Having your skill set is a blessing I wish more ppl on your end were willing to teach for a minimal. Fee. Here in Hoity toity Virginia. It's pay me or F. U. Its sad I teach everything I learn for free. God bless you.
Thank you so much, this is the right amount of work for me as a beginner. I don’t have a table saw or even a circle saw so I need to do this by hand! Pray for me and my fingers!
I think it came out great and I probably would put it in my kitchen.. now if you didn't want painted cabinets this wouldn't work but if they are going to be painted anyway I think they look as nice as any of the other options on UA-cam and they don't require hundreds dollars worth of tools
I love the simplicity of this whole video and build! Sometimes there’s just too much going on in diy videos and I either get annoyed or lose interest before the end. I do have one question.. do you think it would be ok to use 1x2s or 1x3s in place of the mdf trim? Thanks again for posting this! I’ve been needing to build my cabinet doors for much longer than I’m going to admit on UA-cam. 😂
Thank you for the comment! I think the 1x2 and 1x3s COULD work but I would stick with something even slimmer maybe closer to to 1/2 or less. In my example here I feel like the thickness of the plywood and mdf was a little too thick, it’s just what I had laying around to make the vid!
Great and well explained diy video. I need to make a shaker style door for a rolling pantry cart - door size would be 12x80… how heavy was this door you made?
Awesome! I think with some light birch plywood, or whatever thin finished plywood you can find in the size too need, and some thin MDF trim it could be light enough to hang with probably 4 hinges. Things to look out for, warped plywood and you’ll also get a good feel for the weight by just picking up the plywood. Good luck!
I did this to my doors. But because of the recessed edge around the door, I could not install euro hinges . But the still look better than old 1972 brown Laminate. Next I will be making new shaker doors.
I know you said you would use this in a kitchen but mine look amazing. We live on a military base and their house are very outdated so I thought doing something like this would be very renter Friendly
So I did this but after painting my door it seems to have bowed. I used interior acrylic semi-gloss applied with a paint roller. Any help on why this keeps happening? I used pine on 1 and birch on another. They both are now bowed.
Did you realize they were bowed after install? I had one come up slightly bowed after install I think my verdict is that board was bowed enough from purchase prior to install that became more apparent once installed. This is also why If using hardware store wood I wouldn’t recommend kitchens for these doors. Sorry that happened to you!
The door looks very good but the potential issue is exactly what happened to you. The frame and the panel are bound to each other and the materials absorb moisture differently during the season which is why panels are not glued or fastened to the frame in a true panel door.
They could be, but I would recommend them in hallways, linen closets, garages, etc. If you were to consider a kitchen consider the thickness of the trim applied to the back board (my example is probably too think), how flat and square your back boards are and gaps where everything meets to make sure it’s really smooth before painting. Thanks for asking!
Totally unrelated, BUT if Post Malone’s face wasn’t so tattooed.. I imagine he’d look somewhat like you. You’re kind like a “Pre Malone” 😲🤭 or maybe what he would look like if went into the country genre instead.
I guess you CAN, if you’d like to. Personally, I would make sure I used a table saw for very precise cuts for the board. But at that point, you could figure out if to do true shaker cabinet doors. Also, a reasonable priced option is to “reface” kitchen cabinets doors. You can do some googling on refacing. It’s much cheaper than new cabinets. Thank you!
Dude you would have been better off using real wood glue. You wouldn't have needed any nails. But congratulations on working double hard to get something that you wanted. I'm sure you could have looked at some woodworking videos before you did this but good job

Finally, a real DIYer! :) without a $100K shop setup.
I thought your comment about professional woodworkers having an aneurysm was hilarious. I often think that about my work. Thanks for sharing. Looks great.
Thank you very much! Best tutorial - very detailed explanation and shaker door can be done without expensive machines. Exactly what we need!

You sound like John Krasinkski (misspelled) from the office. Soothing.
I love Jim (and The Office), what a complement!
Would I put in my kitchen?....hell yes!!!
Absolutely awesome!! Simple. Simple. Simple, just my speed
This is what my container is about and the truth is I like your work I have experience in this type of work

Thank you for your service!!
Buen trabajo amigo.
So vintage Shaker is now considered Up To Date? Lol
Just kidding. I did the same thing to my bland kitchen cabinets. I even did the same handles!
That’s awesome! These handles are really nice!
Nice, simple and looks good.
Great job. Is there a finish video of the installation of the hinges and the finished product?
Nice easy way to make shaker doors. You might be able to use an iron on edge banding also instead of puttying all the sides.
Great tip, thank you!
Great job! Will be trying that soon.
You failed to lead out with a prop65 warning 😂.
😂 you Sir made my day!
Thats hiw yiu make a video Thanks Bro

Moister change in the material
The door looks very good but the potential issue is exactly what happened to you. The frame and the panel are bound to each other and the materials absorb moisture differently during the season which is why panels are not glued or fastened to the frame in a true panel door.
Me, " wow ima put this in my kitchen"
Dude on the video, " well ill probably not but i will in my garage tho"
:/
How thick is the wood you used for the base of the door?
Hi there, the base (birch plywood) in this example is 1/2 inch. Thanks for asking!
@@littleimprovements thanks for sharing
Thank you!!!!!!!
Can these be used in the kitchen?

You should be in jail for those socks and shorts combo but the door looks nice
🤣😂🤣

Lol thanks for the comment, I’ll take that as a complement 😂
actually think this is a cool way to make faux diy shaker doors
I usually wait until I start cutting before I put a mask on. Usually not.
You probably wouldn't put these in your kitchen...but...can you?
