Just curious, could "Jen" have won at 8:43 by moving diagonally onto the 3 story tower instead of into that corner? I'm not sure what the rules are for going up levels like that so I'm just wondering.
Hi! Great video, thank you. I hope you don’t mind me asking a question for something I don’t understand. It’s to do with blocking players. At approx 10.15, if your worker wasn’t there blocking Jen’s (as no space to move to), could Jen still move down from being blocked in the corner? I’m not sure if workers are allowed to move diagonally through walls which are taller than them. Ie, if a worker was on the board, and surrounded by 4 x 2 storey buildings, (so that they can’t move) are they out of the game? Or can they diagonally move through a gap, and actually needed to be completely surrounded by EIGHT 2 storey or higher buildings, to be trapped. Hope that makes sense. Any help appreciated and happy new year!
hi there, sorry to say it's been years since i played, so i don't remember much about specifics. but if you ask here: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/194655/santorini/forums/0 you're sure to get a solid answer! :)
At 12:27, should she have moved into the corner, then built up a second layer from where she left from? Then you could have moved up. She could go back and forth until she wins. Maybe?
after seeing this i got it for myself and my (now 8 year old) son to play, we love it but i'm curious about something. the deck of cards are divided into the 'original' set of gods and a bunch of newer more advanced gods. after playing the game many times with the original ones we moved on to the advanced gods and MAN are those kind of stupid! have you explored those? the instructions on them (their god powers) sometimes can be interpreted in more than one way! i've tried them a couple times, they always leave us wondering if we're missing something! so we gave up on them and went back to the originals... have you experienced this?
hmm, i never saw any of the extras with the prototype i had. if you head over to boardgamegeek and the rules forum for santorini, i'm sure you'll find folks who can answer any tricky spots you run into :)
I’m curious what happens when you get Athena but then you get the goddess of spring growth where you have to move up a space. It’s a must so therefor do you love if you opponent moves up a space. It would put you at a stalemate or an immediate loss
sorry, it's been so long since i played this, i really don't remember specifics. i'd suggest asking here: boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/194655/santorini/forums/0 and you'll likely get a very good answer :)
Hi! I can't understand the setup power of the Selene god card. Every player can place a male and a female worker during the setup. Why is it written on the card? What am I missing?
sorry, it's been so long since i played the prototype i don't remember, and i don't have the final version of the game. maybe ask here: www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/194655/santorini/forums/66
Hahaha - the teeny tiny RRT sign! I get how it is probably more efficient than the large (slightly tired) one, but I had to do a double take at the start when I saw you holding it. :p
Did your game come with the water and cloud base to put the rock/island on? Seems to only come with the island and game board now. Would love the base 😭
The Game is now: 100 dollars on amazon. retail price is 48 dollars. So why this game publisher Roxley Game Labratory give less stock to worldwide we can never play this game why? in 1 year you cant find on websites especially you cant find on Europe too. Why Roxley Game Labratory ?!! year is 2017 expansion packs coming but WE CANT FIND AND BUY THE MAIN GAME.
+Paulo Renato On the game board, the graphics shows walls between the squares. Between some squares there are openings, while between other squares you can see a still solid wall. So I guess the question is whenever your workers can move 100% freely in any directions on the ground, or if the walls that are drawn on the game board restricts the movement.
+Runeclaw Ah... I think those are just for flavor, they don't restric movement... at least on the KS Page the example they have for moving as the meeple jumping one of those drawings
I'm almost positive those "walls" are just there to illustrate the game grid in an aesthetically thematic manner. Whether or no there is a break in the wall makes no difference, the player pieces can move through them regardless.
Notice how the "god rules" specificly state that any gods power that refers to the floors, does not include domes. So, considering that - doesn't that mean that Demeter's power does not allow her builders to build two domes at a time? If that's the case, then that move you made at 09:11 would be illegal, and therefore, the game would've been won by Athena. Would love for you to check it out and get back to me with an answer. It's a huge part of the strategy when using her.
Can you please tell me where in the rules says that any gods powers that refers to floors do not include domes? What I see in the rules for the gods is this: "Domes are not blocks. If the God Power description states it affects blocks, it does not affect domes." Demeter's power says: "Your Build: Your Worker may build one additional time, but not on the same space." So Demeter's power doesn't refer to blocks or floors, it just says you can build a second time, so I don't see, by this why you can't build 2 Domes with this god... For example, Hephaestus power says: "Your Build: Your Worker may build one additional block (not dome) on top of your first block." Going by this description, if you were prohibited of building domes with Demeter it would say so in the description of his power, since it doesn't say I would say it's allowed
Absolutely correct. Today was my first time playing the game (by myself - to get a chance to learn the rules quietly), and when I started messing around with the gods (the starting ones, as the game suggests), I thought that any building ability was refering to blocks and not domes. That's why I posted the question here, to make sure I'm right (or wrong). Once I took a further look at the "Advanced gods" - I understood that some descriptions actually state that that particular power affects blocks specifically. So yeah, Demeter's power does not fall into that category, and therefore, there's no problem with her building two domes in a raw. By the way - some gods are VERY imbalanced. Do you have any clue if the expansion fixes some of these issues?
sorry it's been so long since i played the game i don't remember specifics. maybe ask here boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/194655/santorini/forums/0 and i'm sure you'll get the answer :)
It has a bit of a 'tic tac toe' or 'four in a row' feel. I like the look of it, though. I was scared it would be too mean with all the blocking, but I'm not so sure now.
+Chantal Noordeloos it is pretty conflict-ey, no doubt, and i thought we wouldn't like it for that reason, but it's so fast and the overall presentation is so crazy good thta we could overlook our anti-fighting bias :)
+rahdo I backed it on Kickstarter. I think it will be the same for us. There is the occasional game where there is some conflict, that we actually enjoy. I'm pretty sure this will be one of them. (Also, I'm shallow and this is very pretty)
Just bought this game after a long time trying to find it and I'm super mad it has no water board in it...it's still a beautiful game but it's not the same without it :(
oh no, i'm sorry to hear that. i had no idea! what i'd do is contact the original publisher, roxley, and ask if they'll release the art for the original water board. then it would be easy to make your own printout, maybe even on to mouse pad material or something like that...
I feel like the Athena character is way too overpowered. Making your opponents not able to go up seems very strong if you can just move up 3 times in a row.
+Jonas Breindahl your opponent can easily stay on the ground and prevent you from moving up 3 times in a row by building where you plan to go up so tall that you can't do it.
On Part 1, at 8:42, there is another option for blue to win -- moving diagonally!
Jen is really a great player. It's always a joy to watch her play
These are the playthroughs is always looking for. Thanks for playing both sides. Super helpful.
OMG it was awesome watching you play this game against yourself! "Oh no...."
Guy surprised himself in every move 😂
Very abstract that!
Just curious, could "Jen" have won at 8:43 by moving diagonally onto the 3 story tower instead of into that corner? I'm not sure what the rules are for going up levels like that so I'm just wondering.
+Kyle Dalrymple I'm pretty sure she could.
+Kyle Dalrymple yup i was a total dolt and totally missed that! :)
+rahdo Got to be easy to miss when you're playing both sides, hah.
+rahdo However, it gave the opportunity to show what the blue roof pieces did :)
+Kyle Dalrymple Exactly my thoughts.
This game will be one of the best games of 2017. I am excited to play this one.
You are the lord of board games. All hail king rahdo
Haha this is amazing! It's like you have multiple personalities and you played yourself. it was entertaining to watch who would win. Great review.
Best explained video on Santorini, thanks....and yes, Santorini is a beautiful island we visited on our Greece trip......Athens is a must see too 🔱⚡️💪
I loved the way the Athena power snatched victory from defeat. Fairly thematic tactical trick by the Goddess of Wisdom.
Hello from Greece. Goddess Demetra is the Goddess of agriculture. Great review by the way.
Pete Sotekirk PAY YOUR DEBTS
I just backed this - Thanks for a great play-through helped me quickly decide how fun and re-playable this could be.

watching you play by yourself was so entertaining that I feel this is a game that I can play by myself too lolol
As per usual, another great review/play through!
yooo this review helped me so much learning this game, i thought it looked interesting in tabletopia
At 12:27, should she have moved into the corner, then built up a second layer from where she left from? Then you could have moved up. She could go back and forth until she wins. Maybe?
+Ian Noble that would have been a good move
8:27 "Jen" can win by jumping diagnol on to lvl 3. Besides that great vid very helpful thanks a lot, just got the game and instructions not very cleer
this is awesome the instructions that come with santorini does not explain anything.
it's AWESOME!
i'm glad it helped! :)
I think this is a lighter copy of "Torres" of kramer & Kiesling. Since the presentation here is much nicer, i prefer the old game to this one.
+Antonia Browne I was thinking the same! I have Torres and I totally agree with you!
At 8:43, Jen could have moved diagonally for the win, surely?
+Joel Finch yup, i was an idiot and didn't see it
after seeing this i got it for myself and my (now 8 year old) son to play, we love it but i'm curious about something. the deck of cards are divided into the 'original' set of gods and a bunch of newer more advanced gods. after playing the game many times with the original ones we moved on to the advanced gods and MAN are those kind of stupid! have you explored those? the instructions on them (their god powers) sometimes can be interpreted in more than one way! i've tried them a couple times, they always leave us wondering if we're missing something! so we gave up on them and went back to the originals... have you experienced this?

Oh nos!! haha. Great review and very entertaining. I want to buy this game now! Thx!
Thanks very much for this, thinking of getting it
Is there any way to purchase the ocean base separately?
Man I wish I saw this before the kickstarter was over.. :/
Go on Backerkit ! You can get the KS edition still
Did your game come with the water and cloud base to put the rock/island on? Seems to only come with the island and game board now. Would love the base 😭
yeah, the original first edition printing had the base, but for some reason, the 2nd edition doesn't have it, which is a real shame! :(

If there are 4 players then each player uses one builder and have one God power card...correct?!
A game based on an island from my country? Didn't expected that.
this game is just begging to be played on a turnstyle. it sure looks nice on the table!
Aren't the walls restricting movement as I think they should? Can you jump over them (diagonally or not?) 10:43
+Tokikosworld don't understand your question
+Paulo Renato On the game board, the graphics shows walls between the squares. Between some squares there are openings, while between other squares you can see a still solid wall.

+Tokikosworld the walls on the board are total flavor, not meant to impede movement

nope... it's better for you to go to the forums on bgg and see there... I think this has been debated there
Will do!
This was helpful, thanks!
There was a forced win in two moves for Athena at 5:50.
Dimitriye Danilović trazio sam ovaj komentar
how? Im tired and dont see
Great video brother
Could we move up one level diagonally by one building 1st floor to the building in 2nd floor and then build a building?!
sorry it's been so long since i played the game i don't remember specifics. maybe ask here boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/194655/santorini/forums/0 and i'm sure you'll get the answer :)

Deliteful on so many "levels". Quite the subtle pun.
Thank you, looks good👍
how does it compare to Torres?
+Dickie Z can't say, i've never played torres
You are god level mlg plays my btosci
Never mind you had one spot
So, basically, it's a 3D tic-tac-toe with powers ?
i dont understand how the zeus card works. seems op
Just bought this game after a long time trying to find it and I'm super mad it has no water board in it...it's still a beautiful game but it's not the same without it :(
you should contact the publisher, becuase the final retail version does have a water board, and sounds like you're wasn't packaged correctly...
oh no, i'm sorry to hear that. i had no idea!
what i'd do is contact the original publisher, roxley, and ask if they'll release the art for the original water board. then it would be easy to make your own printout, maybe even on to mouse pad material or something like that...
Ya rahdo many on bgg have asked but roxley games is silent on it which leads some to believe that they plan on releasing it as an add on.
5:45 is so aggravating (in a fun way). Move up, build up twice. Then jump to the 3rd story diagonally and win.
but she can block him from doing it? Or she can only build on a level she is on?
8:44 am I the only one who thinks blue should have won there. That was either a miss play or on purpose to explain the game better
or i'm just a scatterbrain :)
Why can you at 5:50 go up? Athena ..
She didnt move up...
Great video
Play golden fleece please..
sorry i don't have it anymore
Nice review! - I was wondering for a min if you would be able to beat yourself...
Yo forgot building your second level a couple of times ;)
Mine hasn’t the ocean base, why? Is another version?
yes, apparently the reprint from a new publisher doesn't include the base, which is unfortunate :(
Thx bud
Ha ha - what's with the tiny sign? Sorry just have to know Richard :)
+Dave Gray camera was zoomed in too close, so i used a business card :)
This is for kids. Torres is for grownups !
Demeter looks so cute, ehheeh
You actually lost. You moved, but were not able to build, so you lost instead of winning.
I wrote an AI for this game. It ended up being very strong.
looks like a very bad game
you should check out chess... its even worse!
