One of the very best songs. No one touched these guys when they were in the mood. Has everything. Great riff, chorus, lyrics, harmonies, lead beak. No posturing just get in, get the gravy and get out.
It was possible to really, really love them both! Saw The Kinks in '78--too young to see The Beatles together. If America hadn't banned The Kinks for 4 years during the "British Invasion" the world would be a little different, but we might not have the Village Green album!
My wife and I chose this song after we were pronounced man and wife. The riff hit the moment we kissed. Our wedding guests were confused for a sec but it was a party soon thereafter.

Ray Davies à l'avant garde , n'ayant. cure des modes;;. Ses chroniques satiriques sont toujours d'actualité. On les reconnaît davantage à mon sens. Les Kinks sont intemporels, éternels. Respect!
Solid! The Kinks were more purest rock then the Beatles, Stones or Who. This song is one of the reasons why. They played strong well into their 4Os. No other group could really make that claim.
I actually saw this perfomance live on BBC in 1967 when I was 12 YO, living in England. Always loved the Kinks. We watched Top of the Pops every week and they had all the great bands on the program playing their hits. The Kinks, Hendrix, Hollies, Herman's Hermits, The Beatles, Stones, Procal Harum, Traffic, Pink Floyd. Everybody was on Top of the Pops. It was amazing! Unfortunately, my Dad was in Vietnam that year. It was a tough but all of the outstanding music in 67 made things just a little easier. Fortunately, Dad came home at the end of the year.
no lip-syncing, all instruments plugged in, audience happy...imagine that! the kinks are a rock 'n' roll TEMPLATE...so thankful for the groundwork they laid and, of course, the incredible music

Yeah, like every other garage band, I'm sure, in the '60s in Los Angeles and Orange County, our garage band also covered several songs by The Kinks. There was just something very special about their sound.
Born in the 50s, grew up in the 60s, bought into the Beatles hype at the time but now can only remember Who, Kinks, Small Faces and as I matured the usual mid-late 60s/70s rockers, progrockers and variants. This is one of the best
@@warringtonminge4167 Peter Sellers told a funny story about an old actor with your username who tries to get a cheque cashed, you can see it in his interview with Parkinson
@@jonnysongs 🤣🤣 yes, now you know where I got the name from. I know it well, (I actually remember it from its first transmission in the 70s or something) Didn't get the large Remy Martin, the big chop or the cheque pressed or cashed.
Ray Davies was knighted, and deservedly so. Some songs just stay in your head forever. I heard this and All Day, and You really got me are imprinted in my brain. I hear one note and the rest come flowing out
Ray said he thought about turning down the knighthood, "but my parents would have haunted me and I already have enough problems!" Gotta love Ray and Dave!
One of the first 45s I bought, on Reprise Records, at Wallach’s Music City, across the street from Lakewood Center, one of the first songs I learned to play on guitar, in Dm, and one of the songs we covered in our garage band, The Flipside, Lakewood, California, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… I loved the British Invasion. My Top 4 bands were The Beatles, The Kinks, The Yardbirds, and The Who. Magical musical memories, still turning in the windmills of my mind. Long Live The Kinks! Pete Quaife, gone too soon, rest in peace.
I'll take all of those except the Beatles. They were of that era and got me that's where they stay. I still don't listen to any Beatles or Stones records, I leave that stuff to the millions of people who like them. There are too many great bands of that era to listen to instead.
Oh man! I've been listening to this song for what… 54 years now, and only NOW did I realize that the lyrics aren't "Falling 'Till the End of the Day". Talk about a long distance mondegreen!
My favorite Kinks song. Loved it first time I heard it. Love every version I've ever heard. I guess I' m a proud Kinks fan. Thanks for your channel and sharing.
The grand dads of the power riff. Also, their particular type of songs were able to exemplify the power riffs better than almost every band of their time.

Never heard this song but it is electrifying. The intro riff is incredible and from their the song takes off. Dave's guitar playing is the best of The Kinks. Glad Dave is still with us and doing well after his stroke. Ray's songwriting is superb! The Kinks have been around so long like the Stones but the difference is that Ray and Dave keep coming up with new music that make the band fresh. They don't rely on their 60s material solely.
In a documentary on metal, in the pre metal episode, Dave is interviewed. He said he heard some Ventures song that influenced his block , chunky chords sound. Have Rumble on CD. Nothing in music is made in a vacuum from other artists. Link needs to be mentioned, but I hear Rumble more in Pete’s chording than Dave’s. Although Pete said I Can’t Explain can’t be beat for Kinks copying in Rolling Stone when reviewing Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy. Seen Dave live 8 times, Pete 5 times.
totally great. to me they started punk, heavy metal, power rock, all that, and then went on to a lot else. Albums like 68's "Kinks are the village green preservation society " has some amazing stuff on it.......they are now more polished, of course, but I admit the less distorted original was the main deal, sometimes more is less. I don't know if this is true but in the 60's the rumor was they punched holes in their amp speakers to get more distortion. Didn't have all the pedals and such then.
The version from the album The Live Kinks is my number three song of all time. This is a great version here, but it was always better when Dave’s high harmony on the word “morning” would be much louder. To me, that was always the apex of the song.
Original rock metal gods. I've had a great life at 76 yo my ears have heard the best music.
One of the very best songs.

I love the Beatles, Stones and the Who! That being said This is my favorite British Invasion Band. Love this band!
The two Jackie DeShannon songs they covered weren't as good as her versions ;)
Estoy totalmente de acuerdo contigo. Saludos desde Madrid.
mINE TOO! THEY WERE AND ARE ROCKING.
For moi, The Beatles, The Kinks, The Yardbirds, and The Who.
Kinks hører til blandt mine 60er favoritter!

My favourite Kinks song! Loved Lola too, but an entirely different type of song. What a talent Ray Davis is!
Always my favorite Kinks song, with "Destroyer" a close second. That halting, stop/start type of rhythm is classic Kinks.

Did the Kinks invent the use of power chords cause they've been using them since '64 ;)
Link Wray likely invented the power chord in the 1950s with his hit Rumble. Love the Kinks though.
