- Kinks - Destroyer 1981
Met a girl called lola and I took her back to my place
Feelin guilty, feelin scared, hidden cameras
Stop! hold on. stay in control
Girl, I want you here with me
But I'm really not as cool as I'd like to be
cause there's a red, under my bed
And there's a true blue inside of me
That keeps stoppin me, touchin you, watchin ya, lovin you
Paranoia, the destroyer.
Paranoia, the destroyer.
Well I fell asleep, then I woke feelin kinda queer
Lola looked at me and said, ooh you look so weird.
She said, man, theres really something wrong with you.
One day you're gonna self-destruct.
You're up, you're down, I cant work you out
You get a good thing goin then you blow yourself out.
Silly boy you self-destroyer.
Silly boy you self-destroyer
Silly boy you got so much to live for
So much to aim for, so much to try for
You blowing it all with paranoia
You're so insecure you self-destroyer
And it goes like this, here it goes
Paranoia, the destroyer
Here it goes again
Paranoia, the destroyer
Dr. dr. help me please, I know you'll understand
There's a time device inside of me,
I'm a self-destructin man
There's a red, under my bed
And there's a little green man in my head
And he said, you're not goin crazy,
you're just a bit sad
cause there's a man in you
knowing you, tearing you into two.
Silly boy you self-destroyer.
Paranoia, the destroyer
Self-destroyer, wreck your health
Destroy your friends, destroy yourself
The time device of self-destruction
Light the fuse and start eruption
Yeah, it goes like this, here it goes
Paranoia, the destroyer
Paranoia, the destroyer
Hey hey, here it goes
Paranoia, the destroyer
And it goes like this
Paranoia, the destroyer
And it goes like this.
I don't listen to this song too often, but when I do, so do all my neighbors.
......and so do the police my neighbors call..,.
Like listening to the Kinks cranked to 11…that joke never gets old 😂
Pre-requisite: LOUD ! But this vid was pantomimed
🤣
@@R.Akerman-oz1tfObviously. But still rocks.
Wow! 40 years later this jam hasn’t even aged! Sounds as fresh as it did back in 1981! To bad we have to age 👴🏼
Aging is one thing, and yes i agree with you. But since i was 10 years old, i have been obsessed with the fact that we have to die and turn into a skeleton. But I'm having my cadaver, cremated.
I've felt like what the singer is singing from time to time. Especially since i went through a period in my life in which all of my so-called "friends" were stabbing me in the back and playing me for a fool.
Love Ray Davies & The Kinks since I was a Little Gurl around 11 Years. Takes Me Back to My Teens
The song remains the same.
It's aged, but the song/message remains the same 😁👍
2023 and I'm enjoying it just as much I did in the 80’s 😊
Yep! I enjoyed the 80s too! Was the decade of being a young man after graduating in 79 for me. I sure do miss those days of hanging out in parking lots and jamming out with cassette tapes on those Sparkomatic speakers powered by an Audiovox 60 watt equalizer in my 67 Camaro that I street raced! HaHa! I didn’t realize at the time it would become the end of an era by Y2K that started in the late 50s. I consider those of us who experienced it to be quite fortunate! 👍🏼
And the background noise on our records
@quickgearshifter2719
This is such an interestingly clever way of compiling lyrics from there own archive. Then adding a cool punk drive to it with strange flashbacks etc. Very 80's feel from a band that never lost what they had in the 60's.
This critique could sell Magazines
Cheers
@@christopheryasus3666 I agree!! He left the comment four years ago, hopefully he took your encouragement and writes for Rolling Stone now!
Great song, great album, great band. The Kinks were awesome!
So ahead of their time! Deeeeep catalogue
Davies is criminally underrated. Dude was so cool.
Is criminally underrated.
I remember being a teenager and my neighbors and I we will get all drunk and play this song all loud and dance until we can't go on I love the kinks they such a great BAND ever 😎🎸🎼
The Kinks are in my top 5 favorite bands category. This song is epic! I have loved it since Highschool. Ahhhh the memories 😂
Little green man in my head is making me love this song. Heard it a long time ago...didn't really get into it until now.
One of the best bands ever! Super deep catalog!
If I'm driving and this is played, I accelerate and crank it up. No question and it's 2020.
Yes
@Brixton Colten No one cares we are talking about the Kinks here...
Don't be paranoid but the cops are tracking your speed and location.
i bought this album with my paper route money when i was 10, and wasnt disappointed, still have it.
Awesome!
Tripping , I did the same thing, whoa doppelganger!!!!
Do you remember what record store you bought it from?
@@sergiolobato1798 Chris's warped records, Lakewood
@@surferbri5346 Remember how fun it was to go to a record store and browse for hours and all you had to go on is the album cover or what the store was playing on the speaker at the moment? good times...
I danced this song in my graduation party, great memories!!!
GONZALO BARRERA. U 2! 1981 in the HOUSE!!
I'll put this up against any of the sorry shit today. This song rocks! GET SOME PARANOIA!
Hell yeah it does
Damn! I was about to leave a comment and I think I took it right out of my mouth. This song just popped into my head and I haven't heard this in I don't know how many years but it kicks ass!
Well ya know a Lot of Good music isn't being played because of the endless rap and hip hop lots of Old bands still make music
This whole cd kicks ass.
GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT.
Everything the Kinks do is great!
Even with the boys being pissy with each other as brothers do, they made awesome rock n roll.
This is my personal Kinks fav. !
There's an old Doors band bio that lists The Kinks as Jim Morrison's favorite band.
I remember having a Sony Walkman listening to this song while skiing in Vernon NJ. It made me such a better skier.
I used to play this song over and over when it first came out.
Stay out of my yard though!!!
Those tones are far beyond WAY COOL! 🌐✌😘🖖👽🤘❤
For There Will Never Be . . . .
Another KINKS‼️
DAVID D.
Kinks one of best bands ever!
This here's the definition of Rock and Roll that all others aspire to.
I saw these guys live at their ONE FOR THE ROAD TOUR in Worcester, Massachusetts. This was their prime, this was THE concert to see...Amazing, most amazing concert I've ever seen of them.
Saw them in Berkeley in 81 best concert I ever saw
Haven't heard this in 30 yrs....... Played this tune yesterday on sat radio. Jamming, playing drums on my steering wheel with the volume cranked. Looking at all the maskedsheeple:) in their cars...
Love this song , my highschool days
My fave Kinks song
The originators of punk Rock
they were around at time however that honor would go to the stooges.
AND IT GOES LIKE THIS
HERE IT GOES
And it GOES LIKE THIS!
The Kinks at their best!!
I like how this song is about self-destruction & they use 2 of their most famous songs to form it. Using the Oh-So-Common chord progression of "All Day and All of the Night" as well as references to both that and "Lola"
Right? It's great for singing, you can mashup all the lyrics in different ways! Kinks are like the longest best superband.
@@lindac6919 So fun to see replies from things I said over a decade ago. It’s a testament to how this music still holds up and people keep listening to it. Thanks for the reply!
@@tjnuge Back then, today, and way into the future the Kinks will always be a groove!
this song was banging in my head all week
Almost forgot it... Thanks for let me remember 🎻🎶🎶🎵
this song was banging in my head . . . 39 years.
That's why I'm listening to it now. They're going after Dr Suess! Who's the paranoid destroyer?
Funny how they bring Lola back and take the all Day and all of the night riff and make a new song
Great song..love the 'aggressive' keyboard
🤣🤣 aggressive" ✌️❤️
those keys have teeth in the right hands!
Wow! They adapted to New Wave Rock from the early 1980s. I never really thought of them as one of the greatest rock bands until I started studying Rock History. They did early 1960s invasion and were quite good. Did disco too. Then adapted to New Wave. Wow! I am impressed now as a rock historian. Cause let us all face it. Rock has been dead for quite some time. But I listen to it.
Where is Dave?
Anyway, this song was huge when I was a teenager in the Boston area! Thank you Kinks for being a huge part of my life all through my life.
Was thinking the same thing. No Dave but his guitar leads are still put in 😜
If I recall, Ray and Dave never got along well
Great song, what a classic hard rock tune for its time.
awesome job by american classic radio pretending the kinks only had a handful of songs worth playing...thankfully, you can't stop rock 'n' roll!
One of my favorite songs top 10
LOVED it then, LOVE it now ❤❤❤
Remember this like it happened just now! 1981! Just graduated from H.S. & was 🚗 driving my brothers' '77 ❤ T-BIRD on LSD in Chicago on the LoopFM 98 with Steve Dahl, the dj. I was high on sumthin, but my buddy & I thought it was uh remake of You Really Got Me from the opening chords! Blew us away.
My favorite kinks album. speaks to me what with my laundry list of mental health diagnoses
Mi papá tenia este disco!!! Gran tema!!

One of England's 🇬🇧 true Bards.
Perfect for where we are RIGHT NOW....
@Fredrick Noble .....AND IT GOES LIKE THIS ! Cheers M8 !
junior in highschool when this came out. been years since i heard it and it just popped in my head for some reason and here i am.
This song was played everywhere at UCSD Campus 'dorms' in Fall 1981... great song..to complete with the Stones 'Start Me Up' ..which came out about the same time.
I'm not surprised it was popular down there at UCSD- it was all over the radio in the LA markets too- KMET, KLOS, and KROQ.
Oh hell yeah, the Kinks do rock!
I was 19 when this came out:)). I can't understand why the people in that audience seem so chill, like they're watching someone recite the encyopedia or something, you would think live, in person, they'd be bopping around in their seats a little at least?
Hahah... for the first couple of seconds Ray's mic was actually on. You can her two voices on the "Met a girl called Lola.." and then his mic is quickly turned off.
probably on so he could intro the song, perhaps.
Yes, clearly dubbed. The drummer doesn't play anything close to what is on the audio. Not surprising having seen this all as a child.
Simply awesome! Thank you for sharing this live performance 💜 🦋🌷. This song does not grow old - perfect rhythm & singing!
Ray’s guitar is not plugged in. Love it.
It’s so good!!
I love this song, but it also makes me laugh every time. When Dave Davies says, " And it goes like this, here it goes." I always laugh. It's like he is saying the obvious that the song is going and it sounds like this. It hits that absurd humor for me. I wish all songs did this.
Great Great Song.
I just searched for this song and listened to it because yesterday I was in my local Home Depot in Dawsonville, GA while it was playing on their intercom system. There was even an employee I saw singing along to it. I just couldn’t get it OUT OF MY HEAD! 😜
God, I love this song!
Me too, but I tell it to people.
Stay out of my wife's Vargina though!
just absolutely STELLAR!
:)
Love it. My local nawlins band used to cover this epic gem 💎 back in the day .
if you're from the uk you should know that TV audiences of that time must be stone still & deathly quiet as they are here
the kinks just kick ass
Masterpiece 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Good times with this song. Brings back memories of getting drunk in parking garages.
This is a great song. For some reason i voice inside my head said look for this. Remember listening for the first time on holidays on the Gold Coast. Australia 1982.
Thought of this song while reading about the QanonTrump crazies. Had to hear it. Great stuff!
I can't think of any band with the versatility of the Kinks. They did it all. Blues. Bosa Nova. Folk. Jazz. Musical theatre. Heavy metal. Punk. Disco. I know I've missed something.
Back where we started... prolly my fav Kinks tune
My neighbors listen to some really cool music, whether they want to or not.
I don't care where they play, if the Kinks end up getting back together, I have to see them before they die. Or I die.
Same!!
Hopefully not both. Rootin 4 ya
timeless.
I'm gonna play this for my guitar exam and I'm sure as hell that I'll die at the "solos" :)
Wish me luck pls ;-;
I heard this On XM radio the other day. I haven't heard in many yrs. Love the early eighties punk rock sound.
Real punk right on!!!
The Kinks bigger than life!
Stay out of my yard though!!!
10th grade '81 first colonial hs rocking it in the hallways.....best beach school in VA Beach....good times back in the day.
Just so good.
Paranoia will destroy ya !
I thought it said the same thing lol
It's kind of fun, CAUSE IT GOES LIKE THIS.
People sitting in their chairs like they're watching Opera have no clue LOL
Ray Davies - smokin!
Prophetic. Met and 🥰 an original Kink@ a long time ago. Must have been Miami. Red head Country star headlined.
love it
1981.....
This my favorite song of theirs so powerful
like the world God bless
I cant. believe the audience was sitting still!
Yep, saw Ray Davies, etc.in Boulder Colorado a couple of years later. The first act was a crooner and got booed off the stage. There were about 15,000 of us and wanted to rock! Poor girl. The highlight of the act was when a hard-working roadie came out and placed a large rug just so. The audience applauded wildly. Ray went into several versions of paranoid to make up time. Good times, the early 80's.
I guess Dave Davies had the night off
My thoughts exactly!
Same thoughts where is he?
Wondered where Dave was myself. Probably got into a fist fight with Ray lol.
I bet he was doing something with his solo album. He said this was a difficult time for the band. Surprise, surprise. They never got along.
And apparently, the cameraman believed that the bassist was playing the guitar leads. :-) What a fantastic tune. Ray is a pure, raw genius that is rock and roll.
Timely and appropriate.
A solid & rocker song! In the eghties was always our parties s song.
How incredibly on point in today’s world of conspiracy theories…
Love it yaaaay!!!!!!
2024 and still listening to this song
Best song by the band
And It Goes Like This
Great album.
Who's here in 2020... The year of the "Great Distraction." Also, Dr. Ro's layout for his new deal...LMWAO #Blindtime #LBS
