WWE v. WCW is an easy story. One was a family business and the other was a division of a corporate conglomerate. The family had to win or they’d be ruined. The corporation could easily drop the division it didn’t want in the first place.
It wasn’t Russo’s fault, nor Bischoffs, it was AOL’s fault for not really giving a crap and letting it take care of itself. Whereas WWE was much more organised.
Just think about turning on Raw and see Eric Bischoff on that fateful day in 2001 if WCW had won and bought WWF and ECW.. we probably never would have seen Vince ever again like it was planned in 2007.
I blame Ted Turner, Vince Russo, and the execs of Turner Sports for ruining WCW. Yet, I won’t blame these people for ruining AEW, since they’re doing it to themselves.
Eric Bischoff ruined WCW. He spent millions and millions of dollars buying up talent to get ahead in the ratings and never made any of that money back. By the time he left the damage had been done which is why it was sold off.
I often wonder how today's product would be had WCW won the Monday night war. Would the Rock and Austin have been signed, would Triple H, Taker, Angle, Kane etc have gone over too?
That is an interesting take…WCW’s business model contrasted WWF’s. WCW portrayed it as a real sport: time limits, the commentary during the match, etc. I think the theatrics wouldve been a lot less, because WCW wasnt good in that department (ie Glacier).
Wcw even at its height was never as good as wwe, the sting nwo storyline was well done until the starrcade 97 disaster, aside from that Goldberg and ddp were the only real stars they created, everything else was just names that they bought from wwe and who they hadn’t a clue how to use. And young stars like Eddie guerrero and Chris Jericho had to leave wcw to become stars
If WCW wins war, does TNA exist? Because when WWE won, he knew he wasn't going to get a job there anytime soon, so that's one of the reasons why he started it. ECW was already gone and at the time Heyman hated WCW so much, he'd never have gone back there....or would he?
WCW should have won as much as WWE marks would never admit it. WWF succeeded by becoming something other than a wrestling company. WCW's big failure was in trying to match them and hire Vince Russo and be that way too. THe attitude Era wasn't wrestling, it was "sports entertainment". if WCW had just held their breath and weathered the ratings attitude brought in, they wouldve eventually outlasted them by putting out actual product. I lived in the NE. THe WWF's backyard. From '95-'98 kids in my neighborhood were talking more about Hogan, Sting, and Goldberg than MIchaels, Austin, and Rock. Atitude was dead by '03. If WCW had focused on putting out a wrestling show, they would've clobbered them by that point. WHo were the biggest WWE draws in '03-'04? Eddie? Benoit? Fucking Hogan? Half of WWE was powered by WCW talent 2 years after invasion.
I actually wish WCW had won the war. WWE has ignored their fans and stopped putting in effort ever since all their competition like WCW and ECW went under. And the wrestling business hasn’t been the same ever since.
Did WCW have any chance of winning the Monday Night Wars? Let us know in the comments.
Yeah if bischoff had pulled his head out of Hogan's ass
wcw was off the chart with ratings as soon Vince Russo came in wcw was finished I would say wcw was way far better show my favorite was sting.

Still wild to me that Vince hired Eric after everything. I remember when Eric came out on WWE television, I was shocked
even if WCW was still profitable, AOL/Time Warner didn't want it. They did want the Atlanta Braves either, and they were very profitable.
I remember the Braves being the most popular team in the 90s. Crazy to think Aol/Warner didn't want them.
