Great video Dan. Was searching for Zara Spook modifications and came across your channel. Another option could be to just add a single split ring but I agree that you will get a lot more free movement with the double split rings. Nice thing with single or double split rings conversion is that you can always get the Zara Spook back to its original state with the hooks directly attached to the lure should it become very valuable one day.
I don't usually buy fishing lures as an investment. Other way round in fact LOL. I have wondered for years why Heddon doesn't change the hook design from that old fashioned system.
I've heard that the hook design actually catches more fish as the point is facing strike position everytime. I've always wondered if changing them would be a good idea. Would be nice to hear from Heddon. Thanks for sharing!
I have not. Will probably check this bait out this winter along with several others that I want to test. Keep it tuned to Topwater Tuesday to see the results.
Only thing I would disagree with is unscrewing anything, just cut the old hooks. Anytime you remove a screw and replace it, the pull out rating decreases. ✂️
This is good info, but there’s a better way. Forget this spook and buy another brand that’s done right. For me, I buy from a local lure guy here in Arkansas that makes an outstanding spook for half the price you’ll pay for an original, and the local needs no mods. YMMV
Another great addition is a feather treble for the rear hook
Indeed!
You can also use braided fishing line in 65lb and tie the hooks on with a loop so the hooks can spin 360 degrees.
Yep!
South Florida here the jack, snook and Tarpon really seem to like the bone and clear feathered super spook Jr/ Zara spooks
Those are colors and baits anywhere!
The bone spook has caught more fish than the country of Japan

Excellent point Robert!
Good info, thanks will try it!!!
Great info. I just started fishing with the Jr. Spook. I'll know how to modify the larger ones now, thanks.
My Pleasure Rad.

My thoughts exactly

I like it!!!! I am changing all mine!
it will definitely improve your hook to land ratio.
Have you tried a J-Walker?

I ve used spook but have not used a wounded spook w/props on front and back how do i fish this ?
The most common way is to rip it forward by sweeping the rod, stopping reeling up the slack and repeating.
Another Good One ! Thanks Dan !
Gamakatsu #2 EWG long or short shank?
long
Thank you for the tip.
my pleasure James
Nice!!
Thanks!

This is true but you can always add epoxy glue to the screw before putting back in. This holds extremely well!
Great modification video!!👊🏻 One question: What size eye bolts do you use?? Stay Safe & God Bless!!!!
I wish I could remember. I know this...I bought them at a hardware store because the ones at Janns Netcraft seemed a bit weak to me.
@@fishden365 Ok. I'll try and get the ones that seem to be the right size.
