I watched this video John, just after posted it on UA-cam, your review got me straight onto Rails and I ordered one in BR blue as I worked on them as a 2nd man in the 70s
What an absolute bargain, this quality at the price of a Railroad equivalent Hornby loco ! So glad I saw your review early enough to grab a bargain, thank you

I'm so glad I addressed this issue and people can see it's a decent model for the price...every video I saw was negative....then Rails dropped the price.. so I had to give it a go...so glad I did, and I happy you also got yourself a bargain

I just took one out of the box today - E6012 version...Like you I found it fantastic. It is running on DCC and is very smooth!! -Best wishes

    Such a truly handsome livery.🤩
I have a Heljan 7mm. scale "Tracy" 73 in the same GBF colours, just glorious!

I received one a few days ago from my wife for my birthday 😊 It's a stunning model out the box but I won't get chance to run it until later in the year. So pleased to see it running on your layout. Great review!

I've had one in rail blue for a while that caused me no end of problems - it went back once for repairs and was still misbehaving afterwards. Eventually I discovered the pickup issue (and workaround) that some people had done, and it's run like a dream since then! I couldn't resist picking another one up when Rails had them on offer, so I bought this same model a couple of weeks ago - I've not had the courage to run it yet but having watched this, I do feel a bit happier about it! They are beautiful models, and I'm looking forward to seeing you work your weathering magic on this one!

The Class 73 was the best engine I ever worked on (as a guard) when I was based at Woking between June ‘86 and August ‘91. I loved them, always will. Fabulous things!!

Totally agree..what a superb locomotive, was a bit of a challenge on shunting duties using the Buckeye coupling and chains, but I enjoyed working on Class 73's in my limited time with them...

@@HaroldRoad The buckeye was a pain (in the ass) on anything to be honest; I hated having to swing them into position and pin them, especially 455’s, they were a tw*t.🙄 Anyhoo, I’m fairly new to your channel (4-6 weeks) and I really enjoy what you create, and your layout is top draw; definitely my kind of setup. All the best John. Simon. (I’m a signalman now. Oops, Signaller. Old skool.)

73s are getting everywhere now. I've seen Cally 73s go from Craigentinny to Loughborough on the ECML, also GB 73s in Derby through Wellinborough and on the WCML. So in short, your GB 73 should be fine on your layout.

That looks great John. I like the 73s, but do not have any.

Nice! I was looking at one of these at Model World Live and almost bought one but I'd just picked up a 'Caroline' so was a bit short of cash I could do with one though as my layout I'm building will be Southern themed and I grew up seeing these everywhere.
If I remember correctly there were issues with the circuit board as well as derailing on any change in gradient. I think that thing with the bogies might be how they addressed that. But seriously though that's so smooth and quiet. I'm definitely getting one of those.

    Hi John.
Very nice. Might have to get one. It's a bo-bo as well so should like my layout.
Just bought a 37 Accurascale from Anne so might be paying another visit to Great Eastern.
    Thanks for the review John.
    Thumbs up thumped 👍

Great review, love the class 73.
Thought I may pick up another so I had a look at these at Rails after seeing this ,sold out now, that one and a few other liveries, at that price I'm not surprised.
    😊

I really want the Network Rail yellow livery model, unfortunately you can only get one from Olivia Trains, it’s an £164 exclusive model which has a terrible reputation, I have seen videos of the first run which had many issues, Legomanbiffo sound decoder rectifies the pcb lighting issues but you have to order the correct revision of model you have, it’s such a shame you can’t buy every livery from any Dapol retailer, this is a very reassuring review for once, DCC supplies have a large amount of Dapol spares but they aren’t cheap, thanks for sharing.

Got a few, 5 probably all dcc sound, The later ones seem to run better and they changed the pcb to improve the lighting.

I was expecting a real Dog of a model, but this was a total surprise considering the online reviews of the Dapol Class 73...I was totally blown away..so this video had to be made to turn the scales in the positive...what a superb model 👌

Hi JB, love the review mate , a stunning model. I got the swallow livery one last week, same price... fantastic....it ran pucker like yours on DC, when I put a chip in it the lighting wasn't the same , I reached out to DCC supplies and they were very helpful, I've used them before for help/fix with a dapol 121, great customer service....btw, as its Sunday, I hope the lads down the Mary Hinge SC enjoy their ride out today...🧐🤌👌🤘✊😂
