My late grandmother had this exact phone in her apartment. My aunt and uncle got it for her in 2012, and she used it up until she moved into a nursing home in 2015-16. It was a great phone. We probably still have it in our garage, as we brought it here when she moved out of her apartment (we never used it here).
Yes, there is a piezo ringer in there just for power outages. Many AT&T corded models were like this. It's nice that it rings on "high" since during a power outage it could be heard through most of the house, considering it's likely this would be the only phone someone would have that works during an outage. I have one, and the screen is spoiled. Interesting that this one isn't, but I guess it can happen.
Almost every corded or corded/cordless is like this. There are a few exceptions such as the Panasonic KX-TG9471/9472 which doesn't work during a power failure.
It does have a pretty good volume to it. It would have been neat if they added the option to switch between the piezo ring and the software ring to give two different ringers to choose from. I tend to prefer the piezo ring myself.
where did you get that thang? AT&T has a great reputation so I doubt their manufacture could package something so dirty, even if it came from red china ? we need to know where you get it so we don't get it there too. but great review. does it have a place to stick a battery in case the powerlines go down?
Not a bad corded Telephone with Digital Answering system considering the dirt that it has the buttons are clean and the screen is in 3 different angles good video bro I enjoyed it
Hey Jordan! I wonder if this phone has talking features to assist the sight challenged in setting up the phone. Or would I have to have sighted help to set it up initially?
Haha. I was half expecting to hear "GOOOOOSE!" when you were recording louder greetings. I have a 2-line AT&T corded/cordless system (TL88102, I think) that has two different ringers, as well. Meaning that when it's unplugged, a piezo ringer will activate. I don't really like the sound on that one. Can't use the handset on the base when it's not plugged in, though; makes sense, needs power to go from line to line.
@@techwithtyler20 That's right. On the corded handset, when the base is disconnected from the adapter, I still cannot talk on it. It will hold the line, but nobody can hear me and I cannot hear them.
@@MrMrdavis98 May be a defective set. Usually 2-line phones that work during a power failure will allow you to fully use line 1 from the corded receiver.
I've seen a few situations where corded phones that require an AC adapter will not operate without it. The only thing I can think of is the voltage supplied by today's VoIP lines isn't as high as it is on a proper copper line, and that additional voltage is required for it to operate.
I used to have this is my phone collection when i was about 5. I had a whole collection of phones and I've moved multiple times, I haven't seen them in years now:( what a shame.
Hello, if you press the volume button up, you can solve the problem addressed in this video. I purchased this phone and check incoming and outcoming sounds. It is in good working order.
I have this same phone. Started working from home so I got a landline and started using it again. Problem is the “voicemail message” keeps coming up when there is no voicemail. I’ve deleted it, tried disconnecting the power to reset, reset my voicemail again yet it keeps popping up periodically. Any ideas how to stop this?
The mic in my handset died :( Looks really hard to take apart without mangling the plastic. People would always say they couldn't hear me when I tried using the speakerphone.
You are NOT showing the CL4940! That is an older version which probably was dumped into the old box when the person who bought the new one took out the CL4940! The backlighting is orange, and 3 buttons are 3, etc.........

TL88102 is cordless-only. You can find your model number on the bottom of the base or in the battery compartment of the cordless handsets.

Great video of the AT&T CL4940, the Jordan! I do have one of them as you may have seen in the collection of the mine.

Very curious I have the model number stuck on my screen but I don’t see it on yours did you take it off by chance?!
That’s what brought me here too. I don’t see any mention in the manual of how to change it.
Everyone that uses the phone asks ‘who’s CL4940?’
How do I access my CL4940 phone from a distance? i hear a noise after 10 rings but can't get it to answer or play back.
I don't understand what you're asking.
Hi Jordan. Sorry for my comments yesterday, but this product is nice.
OK
good video bro enjoyed it... i like the outrageous recordings you did lol
Thanks bro glad you enjoyed it.
Hey I bought this one too but Caller ID does not work. Does need batteries?
As long as the AC power cord is connected, I don't think it requires batteries. The screen will not work without the power cord connected.
Does this phone include caller ID? All that comes up is “incoming call” but no area or telephone number comes up.
Yes. Perhaps you don't have caller ID on your phone service.
Mine displays CL4940 on the main screen. I don’t see a way to change this - I even read the manual.
That's normal operation.
my mom has one and it doesn't ring, goes straight to voice mail. I am not near her. What should I tell her to do?
That may be an issue with her phone service, I don't think the phone itself can do that.

No, it's only a corded model. The current corded/cordless is the CL84x07, x represents number of handsets.
