  • The initial checkout of an AT&T DECT 6 cordless phone with digital answering system, model EL52251. This was yet another trash find which seems to have absolutely nothing wrong with it.

    These have an Intresting design, I can't say I've seen many base units without a speaker facing forward. Is it in the back? Or Bottom?
    Interesting how they increase the sample rate for the outgoing, but decrease it for the incoming...
    I would have thought this unit could record more than 20 messages before becoming full, but it could be more of a budget friendly model.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  3 роки тому +1

      The speaker is on the top rear portion of the unit. Illogical placement considering you listen from the front of the device, but this wouldn't be the first time I've seen that.
      I'm not sure if that's a function of cheap speakers on the unit itself, or there's a difference in bit rate. There's definitely an audible difference, whatever causes it.
      About 15 minutes of recording time is standard, across almost all manufacturers. It's been like that for decades.

      @@JordanU That's a good point, those robo debt collection calls took up most of the memory, so I guess 20 of them is pretty good actually.
      I used to have a stand-alone AT&T answering machine that claimed to have 40 minutes of record time, but the quality was such a joke that it might as well have been a child's toy...

    This would be a 2011 model.

      @@icomradiouser7144 Most likely older than 2010, as it has the voice-driven menus on the base. By then they had brought back handset answering system operation, requiring use of the handset to change the settings.

    Looks like they couldn't figure out how to delete the messages so they just threw it out and bought a new one! Or else they junked their landline entirely, outraged by the persistent debt collecting calls from JINOBIS CORPORATION.

    • @JordanU
      @JordanU  3 роки тому +2

      My guess would be they probably stopped using the landline towards the end, and eventually just dropped the service and tossed the equipment. This was in the same pile as the DuoPhone answering machines, the fax machines, the older AT&T cordless phones, etc.. All that stuff was clearly from an office; this piece was kind of the odd one out as it was from over a decade later than the rest of the stuff.

    Awesome, I love when answering machines are full of messages. Just found one at a thrift store that has tons of old messages and some of them are quite comical. I do have to say though, I’m not sure why you censored parts of these messages. I understand why you would choose to do so, but these people should expect no privacy over something they willingly discarded right? Anyway, I’m sure you were doing it just to be kind and I understand. Anyway, thanks for another cool video.

      It's even better when you find an analog cassette answering system that has vintage messages on it!
      I imagine that person was expecting the trash to actually pick it up and put the phone in the landfill never to be heard of again, not for someone else to take it and listen to everything on there. Jordan could have very well left the messages as is, but it was a simple act of kindness to censor them so that person couldn't get doxxed or anything else. I for one couldn't live with myself if something bad happened to someone else because I exposed their personal informations all over the Internet.
