Hard Truth Distillery and restaurant in Nashville, IN is a beautiful location in the hills of Brown County. Awesome tour options and cabin rentals on their grounds. Beautiful outdoor amphitheater and sitting area too
The wife and I love hopping on the motorcycle and making the 2.5 hour ride to Hard Truth for lunch. I've yet to do a tour. Maybe I'll make that happen this year.
I would like to see Green River in that blind! Non chill filtered and 35 bucks!
That would be a great one to put in. Going to be hard to beat that one. I havent had any of them, but the green river gets very high praise from everyone ive seen that has had it
At the $45 price point, pick one or both of the Bardstown Origin Series to match against.
Someone else said green river. Both recommendations would be great to see.
I second this. Would love to see the white label Bardstown origin in the blind especially since it’s the exact same price as hard truth.
Please continue with these “newer” distilleries, especially as many are now bottling their own juice.
Yes please do. I've been stocking up on several of the new ones you guys have done. No complaints yet. Keep up the good reviews guy's
Classy looking bottles, too.
My sister had her wedding at their distillery venue a few years back. I live two towns over from them.
Glad to see them expanding their line and getting their bottles in stores.
I had their High Road Rye a month back, loved it.
I'm surprised out of all the Indiana distillers, you still haven't done an episode with all the well regarded Starlight options!
Got the exact same notes in my livestream last week. That butterscotch note, which is my favorite HT note, is in their Sweet Mash Rye and really prevalent in the Harvest Rye they did. Great review guys!
Picked up the Wheated BIB from Harry last week. It is fantastic. 🥃
Love highlighting the smaller distilleries!
Great topic for the show.
Great to see you promoting a young distillery and cost effective bottles.
Well done!
Haircut is looking good Trenton! Kurt your is growing nicely!
I don’t think these are available in my area at all yet, but I’ve heard good things about their rye so I’m definitely looking out for that one.
The thick glass bottoms look pretty cool. I'm a sucker for an awesome bottle look.
Me, too…and I wash and keep the really nice ones for future use! My husband makes me a terrific version of baileys at Christmas
Just toured Hard Truth last weekend. What a beautiful setting. These were not available yet, but I picked up their Mellencamp Harvest Rye.
I havent seen or heard of that one yet. Their sweet mash rye thats in the same bottles as the video is supposed to be absolutely amazing as well. Ive see at least a couple reviewers praise it and put it in their top ryes and even top whiskeys of the year
Their Cognac and PX Sherry iterations are amazing!
Ive never seen those ones. Their sweet mash rye is supposed to be a banger too. Thats pretty much the only one ive seen here in MA, other than their rums and rum creams. The toast coconut rum isnt bad, and the toasted coconut rum cream is probably the best cream ive had. Better than buffalo trace bourbon cream, and middle west bourbon cream which are both really good.
Bardstown Origin Bottled in Bond.
They have some newer finished ones aged in brandy, cognac and sherry casks. They are a little expensive, but really nice
Sounds like you have a great idea for a new blind. I will be hunting Hard Truth tomorrow. Growing up in Southern Indiana, I spent some time around Columbus, IN and visits to Brown County state park.
The way you guys are talking about it, I’d like to see this four grain go up against the EHT four grain
Thank you gentlemen, I'll keep my eye out for these, especially the Four Grain!
I just bought the two bottled in bond expressions and the lower, smaller label, on the left side says, “distilled in 2019” and “bottled in 2024” so, five year old juice.
Green river bourbon for the last as a real price option or obv blantons to stay with your themes
Thanks for this video, nice to be able to go to Triangle liquor on Calment and grab a bottle of the four grain. SOOO good.
Picked up a bottle of the four grain today in Indianapolis. Looking forward to it.
Where? Big Red Liquors Cask Strength told me none of their stores have them.
@sicmatters Superior Discount Liquors, just south of Smith Valley on 31
Paid 49.99 for the Hard Truth High road rye here in Michigan. Really good.👍
If y’all could blind bottle and bond bourbons like old grandad Evan Williams JD AND BENCHMARK. I think that would be interesting and we all can find them on the shelf
Love Hard Truth! Can’t wait to try these offerings! Can’t wait to see the blinds!
I'm glad to discover a new distillery that has alot of ryes aswell. I'll have to try them out. Good review gents.
Crusty brownie corners are the best. If a bourbon tastes like that, I'm all in!
I think Bardstown origin wheated would be a good 4th bottle
I agree
Highly recommend this distillery
so excited to pick all of these up!!! I absolutely LOVE the sweet mash rye
A four grain blind would be fun with how much y'all enjoyed this one. The Penelope 9 year barrel strength 4 grain might give it a run for it's money
Green River is finally hitting Texas. I'll be searching for this 4 Grain... Nice job guys!
Loving the continuation of new offerings at a good price point!
Here are a couple ideas for blinds:
- Hard Truth Wheated vs Bardstown Bourbon Company Origin Black Label
- Hard Truth Bourbon vs BBC Origin White Label vs Barrell Foundations
Cheers!
Now I’m really excited, I have a pick coming in from Seelbach of the bourbon, but higher proof. Can’t wait!
Would love to see these all blinded! You could toss in both Bardstown Origin series bottles, both Green River bottles, Ben Holladay, Weller SR, Early Times BiB, Evan Williams 1783, Makers 101, Mitchers, Smoke Wagon Small Batch, etc…
You should add the new rebel small batch reserve into the blind on Friday. After watching that video I was able to find it for 30$! Also in my wife’s home town of Warsaw, Indiana they have a new whiskey bar that is really great, that you guys should check out sometime it’s called Anthology Whiskey Room!
The age statement is usually stated on the back of the bottle. It is small print. The Hard Truth Sweet Mash Ryes have a age statement on them.
Excited for this video. I had Hard Truth a few years back and was not a fan. This video may make me give them another shot.
What have you had from them? Ive seen their sweet mash rye get high praises from a lot of reviwers, and even made a couples top rye and top whiskey of the year a couple times
@@jacksmith2315 I'm not sure. It was a while back at a bar and I haven't been back to it. Sounds like I need to try again.
Good to know... So far it looks like totally unavailable out here in ID/UT.
I'm glad to see Hard Truth on the bar. It's outside my budget, but back during the summer the folks at Kelly Liquors let me try some Hard Truth sweet mash rye and it was *delicious.*
That four grain bourbon sounds fantastic.
I just bought the Sweet Mash Rye from these guys for the first time based on your recommendation. Looking forward to these bourbons popping up in my area.
The distillery and their products are very good. The restaurant is fabulous!
They also have a sweet mash rye that has been out for at least a couple years thats supposed to be really good. Jason C has had it on his top ryes of the year i think twice. They also have a toasted coconut rum thats not bad, a toasted coconut rum cream thats amazing, and something like schoonover 14yr single barrel thats supposed to be really good, but that ones pretty expensive, around $150. I hope these bottles in the vid get here in MA real soon. Would love to try that four grain and regular bourbon. Great video as always gentlemen
Ben Holiday Soft Winter Wheat BiB is an awesome pour in that price range of your looking for a good wheater

You could blind the Hard Truth Four Grain against Spirts of French Lick's Lee W. Sinclair. Both are Indiana-made BiB Four Grain Bourbons. Would be interesting to compare. I like the Lee W. Sinclair, so i look forward to picking up the High Road. The High Road Distillery complex is really a cool place to check out. Not far from either Indianapolis or Louisville.
Kurt and Trenton, I would greatly appreciate if, when you bring forth a new line or offering, such as in this video, you'd add your perspective on whether or not it would make a good cocktail. If so, Old Fashioned, Manhattan, etc.
That 4 grain sounds awesome. I’m in! Thanks and cheers!
What do you think about tasting whiskeys using the 50 ml bottles, 200 ml, and/or 375 ml bottles?
I've tried their rye before and if I'm remembering right it was pretty good.
I think you should add the RD One double finished in oak & maple barrels in a blind with the 4 grain in video. It's fantastic. Tastes like a stack of pancakes with maple syrup. Really enjoy your videos.
I heard that was a good one, but too far off profile so would really stick out. I think green river would be a great add to the blind
Great show, and now another i have to purchase 😂
I am going to ask at the store when we might see Hard Truth sweet mash bourbon here in central Indiana.
Interesting. I love that butterscotch I get from Elijah Craig BP C921 & 23. So if this 4 grain taste butterscotchy then I’ll go hunting for it! 😋 do you guys have any other recommendations on bourbons with strong butterscotch notes?
I'm gonna try the four grain! Thank you for letting us know about Hard Truth!
Id really love to try that one as well. Too bad it isnt around here. I only see their rum and rum creams, which are pretty good, especially the toasted coconut rum cream. I also see their sweet mash rye which ive always wanted to try since it get really good reviews and has even made some top ryes and top whiskeys of the year from at least a couple big reviewers
I live in Illinois right on the border of Indiana and no one has the 4 grain.
Id try Ben Holladay Soft Wheat BIB or Davidson Reserve 4 grain in the blind lineup. Both are in the $47 to $57 price range.
That Truth Wheated BiB sounds really good. I'm a sucker for BiB and wheated whiskey. Will have to keep an eye out during my travels this summer.
I did a side by side with Weller Antique 107 and HT Wheated BiB. The OWA was more refined and would "win" between the two. My opinion is the HT is still a bit young and I'd love to find out what another 1 - 3 yrs would do.
I'm still gonna buy some more plus will be picking up the 4 Grain and bourbon in the next wk or two.
Hard Truth is an amazing place! I’m a local to the area and the facility is absolutley beautiful. Their tastings are very informative and welcoming to all levels of alcohol enthusiasts. The food is a bit on the higher side but very good quality. Nashville, which is the little town right down the road from the facility, and it’s a great place to spend the day walking around. It’s in a small valley so lots of beautiful trials to walk around as well. Highly recommend this little gem in southern Indiana!
Nashville? Little town? Ive never been, but i always thought/pictured it as a medium-big city. Not like Boston or NYC big, but never pictured it as a small town. Interesting
Wrong state
Nice review, been hearing great things about their sweet mash ryes for a while and now that four grain sounds wonderful. I wish Hard Truth distributed to Georgia. 🤔
Hey guys, how about the top 5 high VISKIS bourbons?
I can only get their ryes, rum, vodka, or novelty spirits in NY at this time. Their bourbon hasn't made it to the shelves yet.
The POWER couple! Not available at the distillery til Feb 24! You got hooked up!
Hopefully I can find these
My suggestion for the first one is to put the bourbon against Michter's as it is the same price point and near proof. Curious what you think of the last one against Architect or Penelope Four grain.
Add to list to find!
Sitting here cracking open my first Hard Truth Sweet Mash Wheated and how? Wow! It has the infamous "wheater funk" some call it, I don't generally pick that out but with this one, it's right there on the nose. Mouth feel is complex, viscous, and the flavors linger for a long time. How is this punching in the weight class of Weller A107 I don't know considering it's 100 Proof but it is.
I've not seen that here in Nashville, TN.
Definitely will have to try!!
Eagle rare
I'd vote to include 1792 BiB, Cooper's Craft 100, Bardstown Origin, and EHT SmB or ER10.
I don't know if it's available there, but I've been enjoying Freeland Spirits Bourbon. It's distilled in Indiana then finished in Oregon Pinot Noir barrels and bottled in Portland, Oregon. Aged three years, 92 proof, about $50.00.
Trenton, the palette is ever evolving. Wheaters, Rye, to a traditional bourbon or a Tennessee Whiskey or Bourbon. Just like in a blind.
At that price point you should put the Bardstown Origin BiB up against it if you are looking for heavy hitters. If you want a smaller distillery, maybe Paragon BiB. You could always do Wild Turkey 101 just to mess with Kurt when he doesn't pick it to be his favorite.
Bardstown high wheat
is Hard Truth distributed in Illinois?
Neither of my 2 large retailers carry it
(Friar Tuck and Binny's)
Curious how that 4 grain compares to Rabbit Hole Cavehill, it's a year older
How did you get these bottles. The distillery told me they would not be available before Feb 16. Somehow Bees Liquors also already has them for sale in northern Indiana!
Have y’all done a review on the Ben holladay line up?
These are fantastic. Found all three in IL last week and super value priced
How are they in Illinois when their distillery told me they won't be for sale until Feb 16?
@@whenmusicmatters they were in multiple IL stores on Thursday last week. I am guessing they are not set for release in the state Indiana until the 24th. I was planning on going to the distillery on that day but bought them all already. Side note: the wheat is awesome.
@@whenmusicmatters not sure, my IL goto store had them posted online so I ran over and grabbed them. When I arrived that had a couple cases for sale.
Great Video!
Redwood Empire Pipe Dream CS is four grain, is this better?
If you haven’t tried Laws Four Grain from Colorado I’d love to try to get you a bottle. Also a damn good four grain
Disappointing that Trenton did not know Sweet Mash vs Sour Mash. Other examples of Kentucky distilleries using Sweet Mash process are Peerless and Wilderness Trail.
Throw the Michter's standard bourbon in your Friday blind!
this is a good idea
I think Bowman Brothers would be more of a fair matchup than John J Bowman since it’s a small batch and seems to be more readily available on the shelf
Maybe EH Taylor Small Batch or Eagle Rare?
Really enjoyed this video guys! Always do but this one even more so :)
Going to have to give a look for these
Put 1897 old Forester in that blind with buffalo trace, Bowman, and hard truth
I’d put JJ Bowman Small batch instead of SiB. That would be a more fair comparison imo.
I always wondered about sour mash (and sweet mash, which I hadn't heard before). The term isn't very appealing, but now that I know what it means, I can get past that. The only sour mash I've tried is the Michter's.
How would the wheated compare to green river? Also if it’s that candy forward on the bourbon go all out Buffalo Trace and add in Eagle rare
Peerless also uses the Sweet Mash method vs Sour Mash
As does Wilderness Trail
How does it compare with the Bardstown Origin wheated BiB? Same price point ($50).
How about a 4 grain blind ?
