Modular Concepts: Voice Stacking [Bitwig Studio]
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 сер 2024
- Voice stacking is a special Bitwig feature for multiplying and shaping notes and more. In this episode, we'll look at classic "unison," and then dive into voice stacking and how to use it. We'll see audio FX and note FX that use voice stacking (thanks to The Grid), and we'll close by remixing the factory grand piano so it loops forward and backwards, simultaneously. Come get familiar with voice stacking, another Bitwig difference. 👩🎤 🔀

0:00 Welcome
0:15 Polyphony sets your playable voices & behavior
0:51 Voice Stacking duplicates each triggered voice and puts easy modulation in your hands
2:05 Good ole unison, a way to thicken oscillators by copying and detuning them
5:22 Voice Stack Spread ± sets any parameter's range for all stacked voices
7:43 The Voice Stack modulator offers more options, including manual mapping
9:45 …or Value mode, for setting one step that perfectly scales…
10:49 …OR just manually map each voice to make it #perfect
12:10 Good for Bitwig devices, and CLAP plug-ins that support it 💪
13:35 FX Grid + voice stacking = multiband filtering or more
15:12 Note Grid + voice stacking = layers of modulated notes
16:22 Check the "Three Sisters" preset, where each note triggers all three Sampler modes
18:05 Challenge: Turn the multisampled "Grand Piano" into a pad
19:21 First, edit all zones to loop and crossfade
20:18 Second, make Start and Length loop-scanning macros
21:22 Third, Dynamics is fun when backwards - let's hear the air
23:43 Finally, voice stack the sampler and spread the speed ↔︎

Every video from Dave is such a joy
and so mellow!
This + Polarity's series gives so much new ideas to the "old" concept! Awesome & thank you both!!! :)
polyphonic modulation in bitwig (and CLAP) is awesome
Keep making these kinda videos. I feel these will sell the possibilities of bitwig the most.
Every time one of these comes out it unlocks so much potential.
👌
Man that Three Sisters is a jewel...
Love your "under the microscope" approach.... It somehow puts a relativity forward, causing a case of understanding.....in form of a slice, extrapolating surrounding slices, yet vice versa...
This is cool, I’m especially interested in the wav and sampler examples
i wasn't expecting the bitwig tutorial guy to send me into a deep meditative state but i am not complaining
So cool! Glad I bought it!
The piano example is golden. 👍🏻
THIS IS AMAZING
Excellent video on this truly excellent feature. I would love this concept be expanded to polyphonic voices. Have a polyphonic modulator where parameters could be modulated separately for each voice of a chord (1,2,3, 4, 5 ... in ascending or descending pitch order, or as played, or random)
Awesome ! What a powerfull DAW !
Very cool, appreciate the effort that goes into these.
Wow! That was a great video, really inspirational. Thank you!
Loving that last trick... been writing riffs and such and bouncing them into the Sampler and going bananas with them 👍
I knew most of the stuff but *the last trick* is awesome. Thanks for explaining this videos give som much value to Bitwig
I totally forgot polymer/grid has a wavetable oscillator, I’ve been loading up serum for nothing
🌻
Like 100 yay, I just like round numbers.
👑❤👑
How does CLAP work with effects in bitwig, I've tried stacking and it doesn't seem to do anything, it has limited controls too?
Nice piano.
“…probably not the best for rock’n’roll…” 😆
So it can FM synthesis on steroids
Need Help... when I edit, mix in bitwig I'm impressed by the sound but when converted to wav or mp3 and listen in other sound system like woofer speaker its different, my exported sound is disgusting to hear. Please help. As I am a beginner I don't know how to fixed the problem.
Is Voice stacking therefore usable on external instruments? through modulation.
Not in an integrated way like shown here with the Bitwig instruments & CLAP devices. You could enable Voice Stacking on the Note Grid though and then route through e.g. 5 different midi channels to a multitmbral external synth I would think, each with their own modulator CC messages.
Please make it possible to access the voice stacked audio layers themselves individually - that would be immense. Perhaps a Voice Stack Split device/module?
You've seen it done in one of the presets at the end - just modulate the volume of theinstruments for each stack.
@@Artek604 I didn't see any audio being routed from the stacks? I saw it being soloed with the V1-V3 buttons, but not in parallel? I think the only way is via midi channel stacking and psuedo stacking from what I've seen in this video?
@@SamHocking Oh, sorry - I misunderstood. You can do it in PolyGrid using the usual trick with Modulator Out and DC Offset.
Here's an example project:

@@Artek604 Many thanks, replied on discord. Cheers!
I can't see the playhead
Hey Bitwig, you have the video, can you redub the voice?
