    Cool video. Iv owned a 8' Creek Co. and now have a 10' Fish Cat. Both are great boats. And Iv learned some times I wish I still had my creek co. for some of the smaller water I do. Or when I need to walk my boat into certain areas. I definitely would like to get a steelheader though, especially for overnight river floats.

    There is a very similar boat to the Sportsman 9 at CostCo for $299.99. Very nice pontoon.
    BTW, you're crazy for going after sturgeon in one of these boats! But so are those guys that go deep sea fishing in a kayak as well! 😁😁😁
    Nice review sir! 👍👍👍

      The Costco boat doesn't have the 100% PVC covers. They are Nylon on top and just not in the same class as the S9.
      Glad you like my channel.

    The two PVC tubes are rod holders. If I decide to take a smaller rod when I am sturgeon fishing I put them there. If I am catfishing and need a big rod for a hole that might have sturgeon I carry it there. The connection from the battery. I have a hot wire that is on the battery full time. It is short like 5" long. I wire nut one of the wires from the trolling motor control button to that. The other wire on the control button wire nuts to the hot wire for the trolling motor. The trolling motor has a ground wire and I hook it straight to the battery.

    Very good video. With your boat that shows the battery you have 2 pvc tubes mounted to the battery holder. Please explain what you have done. Also the power or battery connections? What did you do there?

    Good video I'm a beginner wish one you recommend how much did the steelhead cost and how much for the sportsman 9

      The Steelheader was a new boat. Remember this boat is a cataraft and is rated for class 5 whitewater and is rated for 1000 pounds and a gas motor. They run about 2000 dollars. The sportsmans was used and I got it for 50 dollars. New they run around 500.

    wow that 3rd is nice wish I could afford one. I have a small one that's got plastic tubs not air. don't have no mount for motor I want one but I'm 334 pounds adding a battery may be to much. I mean it set up out of the water good. goes they the water great. plus with my feet in the water is great I can't set in small boats if there's a floor I've had 3 knee surgeryies so this is confee but my disaiblty I really need a small motor. but I have fun just not long. you have fun god bless.

    Great video, all great boats. How much did each set you back?
    Check out our latest review of the Intex Excursion 5, not as high calibre as these but definitely in the prive range to allow all to have a chance to take to the water.

      The yellow boat was a 100 dollar Craig's list boat. The Green Sportsmans 9 was a 50 dollar boat on a yard sale. I had to sew on new straps for the D rings but it is a great boat. The Steelheader was about 2200. with the outboard transom.

    I am looking at taking a long trip from topeka, KS to the mississippi river to the Gulf of Mexico across louisiana heading west and up to Lake charles, LA. in your opinion which would you recommend using? I know the first one is out of the question. I know there are realitivly no rapids from here to there. the worst I can see would be the waters in the gulf. Thank you for you time.

      +Chase Credeur I would recommend if your not planning to have a motor more than an electric trolling motor I would say any pontoon with PVC covers will be fine. The Sportsman's boat I have wold make that trip easy. If you took a motor and a battery you might think about a solar charger and let the motor fill as you float.

      +Chase Credeur The Green one. I bought mine for 50 dollars. I have bought a couple others under 200. They are a great boat but a lot of guys see them in the garage and don't use them. They sell them cheep.

    I have a fish cat 9 and am looking for a trolling motor and battery. What size battery? (is there a point where weight matters?) and what length shaft and how much thrust should I be looking for?
    Thanks!

    • @idahoron
      @idahoron  8 років тому +1

      Size does matter to a point. If a guy is a very large man you might be over loading the boat. My green boat is basically a Fish Cat 9. I have a Minn Kota endura 40 pound thrust. I have a Walmart "ever start 27DC-6" The 27 is a series 27. The DC means it is the Deep Cycle. In my opinion you will want a 36" shaft. Minn Kota also makes some 35# or 38# thrust motors that are 36" long shafts. Those would be fine too. When I troll with this set up I get about 7 hours of life out of the battery when trolling at 1 mph.
      I have a Face Book page that deals with questions like this. If your interested we would like to see you there. Drop me a note and let me know who you are.

    What's better a colorado xt, or the fish cats???

    • @idahoron
      @idahoron  3 роки тому

      In my opinion the fish cat models are superior. They have 100% PVC covered Nylon covers. If you drop a crappie, or a walleye on a Nylon boat there is a chance for the fins to poke the toon. Also hooks are also a big issue to keep away from Nylon. The 100% PVC covers are much more resistant to issues like this.

    I certainly cannot recommend any fishcat products....Boat was fine. When I purchased it I was told replacement parts were readily available. When one of the outer skins was damaged and I called about replacement. Cost to replace was around $600.00. Too much considering cost of boat. I would check warranty info and actual replacement part costs before buying one. When they work they are nice.

    Can any of these boats be used on saltwater?? Just around bays and bridge pillars

    • @idahoron
      @idahoron  6 років тому

      Yes they can you need to make sure to wash them good. Also you can get a stainless steel frame from Bucks Bags that would be awesome for salt water.

    Why not compare the CREEK CO ODC 9 OR 10 ? Higher end boats that are much better quality than the cheapest boat they sell.

    • @idahoron

      I didn't have them. These are the only boats I had at the time of the video.
