Between your dad, Augie, Alvin, and the Savages, Soap Creek was THE place for great music and atmosphere in Austin. Some of the happiest times of my life were at that joint! Be well, Dawn.
Dawn, do you remember the name of that "supergroup" from this era that consisted of your dad, Alvin, and FIVE more of the best guitarslingers in central Texas? Rocknroll overkill at its best!
Saw this lineup perform at least twice during that period. This was Shawn Sahm's first tour with his dad. During that tour in 1982, Shawn, then about 16, would sing John Cougar's "Hurts So Good" and it drew great responses. In 1981 Doug turned back to his Tex-Mex roots with "Border Wave" after releasing the underappreciated blues gem, "Hell of a Spell" the preceding year. Alvin Crow, also seen in this lineup, continues to perform Doug's material in Austin. That affirms the importance of Sahm's influence and lasting appeal. Doug, you was for real. The memories never face.
Doug was truly a talent along with Augie Meyer. It was awsome in the later years when they formed the Texas Tornados along with other famous Texas superstars like Freddy Fender and Flaco Jimenez .They just blended together so well.Combined all their hits and added some new ones.Sure am gonna miss these Legends. Rip Doug Sahm
The king groover. We produced a documentary on Doug Sahm called Sir Doug & The Genuine Texas Cosmic Groove.. It's coming back on Nov 6th in honor of Doug's birthday :)
Love Doug Sahm, been listening to him since the 70's! Doesn't get any better than this!!!! listen to his music everyday & never get tried of him! You are truly missed Doug, one of a kind!!!
In 1992, the Tornados played Grant Street Dance Hall in Lafayette, Louisiana, & before the 2nd show I was sitting on the front steps cooling off, & Doug came sit next to me & asked if he & the band could come to my house & eat gumbo,,,
The problem with the H.O.F, is that everywhere in the world (but Texas) people want music to fit into a nameable genre, but thank the good Lord in Texas we don't understand that concept...there's only 2 types of music in Tx. the kind we've heard, and the kind we haven't heard yet, and we like both types
This is a time when music was fun & enjoyable, love the songs, the playing, especially Augie, the nice thing is that we will always have this to watch and enjoy!!
Johnny Perez , original SDQ Drummer , is playing Drums , here. He played in different versions of The Quintet , and later collaborated with Joe "King" Carrasco. He also played Jazz in L.A. Sadly , he passed away a couple of years ago. Doug's Son , Shawn Sahm , turns up on Guitar , later in the show. He's singing with the latter day Texas Tornados , doing his Daddy proud.
Many years ago I opened up for EXILE, and the next band was "Texas Tornados", and EXILE closed the show. Doug, Augie, Les, and several others, and me and my band were partying their asses off!
I am 71 years old and was born and raised in Texas. i always loved country and western music and pretty much only Country & Western. I am ashamed and embarrassed that, somehow I missed the pleasure and enjoyment of knowing about and enjoying Mr Sahm and his group. { especially Augie } It is really disturbing that there really does not seem to be anybody coming along to fill their boots. When George Jones made a record about that, I enjoyed it and did not think too much about it but todayit is a very serious issue.
there's alvin crow! saw doug & alvin mingling in an austin club in the '70's johny gimble was on stage (chris o'connel in the rest room line but i was too shy) - felt i was in midst the gods of soul music....and i was ~
Am a big fan of Doug Sahm, ever since those far distant days when SHES ABOUT A MOVER exploded into the British pop charts way back in the 60s. Lately I have been trawling through lots of Texas Tornados videos and other Doug Sahm related stuff. Just found this one, as it happens I very much like George Thorogood and much to my amazement he is in this lineup, never knew he played alongside Doug Sahm, great music.
Hello C.J. thanks for your reply and putting my mistake right, now that I have read the comments I have learnt that this chap is Alvin Crow. I personally have never heard of him, bit of an unknown quantity in England, however I have looked him up on youtube and now know that he is a very good and talented musician, thanks for correction.@@c.j.benoit8662
Nolan Pierce outstanding performance by Alvin Crow on the San Antone fiddle riff. This is a hard video to find. Btw, does anyone go back to the Rome Inn days with Doug?
Absolutely superb footage, fortunately I have seen Doug AL LOT in The Netherlands, especially in his 'favourite' Paradiso. Amsterdam. Every show was different, THE Texas JukeBox man of all times. Famous Dutch D.J. JAN DONKERS even played baseball with him in the well known Vondelpark and dedicated a lot of shows to him (sometomes with me as a host, presenting his rare old 45's.....
Saw the tornados at antone's in Austin 20 + years ago recording live in the limo. Awesome. Saw augie 3 weeks ago Bend Texas general store. Awesome show. Cool cat as they all were.
I think Augie Meyer was to Doug Sahm was like Clarence Clemmons was to Bruce Springsteen. Peas and carrots. Soul mates. I'd love to sit down with Augie and listen to his stories.
3:51 my favorite part,Sir Doug gets caught by the rock goodness and starts to boogie but then stops, kinda looks around,he was feeling th groove.....I cant say enough how these guys rocked the world.Love this band.
Not easy being musically unique and cutting above the fray! Much respect!!!
How weird seeing dad without a hat. Yep there's Speedy dad loved the bartender from Soap Creek. He knows dads the real deal hated posers.
Rest easy doug. Dawn your dad was one of kind " very original ". His music had no borders. Much respect!

I also loved the Texas Tornadoes 👍
That's my dad in the shirt with the cut off sleeves. Talk about a great line-up on stage.
Who is your dad??
Alvin Crow
They were great together!
My dad is a True Grit Okie and I don't think I've seen him as tore up as he was when Doug passed except for when his father did.
Your dad is a talented man

Paradise Lost.old school Austin.God damn I miss it. May you rest in peace Mr Sahms you are sorely missed down here.
What an amazing line-up! I love how Doug Sahm went and got the legendary Alvin Crow to be in the Band! Damn! these were great times! Bar-None!

Doug, so vastly underrated just a great distinguishing voice and his band all players were so tight!
Doug Sahm---- what an outstanding talent, what a great musical legacy, fondly remembered and sorely missed.

Why is Sam the Sham not in the RRHOF??
He.s a kult Hero anaway. Doug could outsing anayone of Them...., so called big names.

Love it!! RIP Doug Sahm and Freddy Fender. :-)
GOD BLESS AMERICAN PATRIOTS...........GOOD GREAT COUNTY............NO PUKE RIOTERS.......ANTI AMERICAN THINKS GUN TIME!!!! CUSOOOON!!!!

Incredible singer, songwriter, guitar player, arranger & producer.
It's stupid that Doug isn't in the H.O.F. Such a talent and influence on so many.

The great ones usually don't get fame and fortune, but Doug had huge numbers of loyal followers around the world.
This is a time when music was fun & enjoyable, love the songs, the playing, especially Augie, the nice thing is that we will always have this to watch and enjoy!!
Great music. Doug was so loved here in Sweden and is a favourite of mine too. Remember his visits here in 1982. ❤️

What a great, great concert. Wish I could have seen it live 😞

Shawn is on stage the whole show. He plays the solo in Down on the Border. Not many closeups. What a great band
Sean was born in 1965 so he was only about 16 and already performing with his dad.
Wow! What a treasure to find this video of Sahm’s music much of which I’ve not heard before.
Many years ago I opened up for EXILE, and the next band was "Texas Tornados", and EXILE closed the show. Doug, Augie, Les, and several others, and me and my band were partying their

Doug Sham, had a musical spirit, as big as John Lennon, Mick Jaeger, or Ray Davies.Something like that said Bob Dylan years ago
Whata groove! Got into him the last few years , he was uncomparable, a true original
Doug in his prime, nothing better than this!
Sir Douglas, he should have been knighted by the kings of rock, pop, blues, Tex Mex and the queen of soul too.
Miss him madly. The great man from Texas.

Augie was a huge part of the band. Can't imagine this music without the organ.
Back in the day, I bought a couple of Augie’s albums.
Doug Sahm--Augie Meyers the player is a master of the Farfisa. Exactly how it should be, always, awesome.
Looks kind of like a Vox to me?
@@andrewgrier8673 yes it's vox but same sound as farfisa. I like this mellow vibrato sonud.
