I installed mini-braids on my hair. I spend something like 12 hours to do them (~22inch hair), then i did it by my own! I'm super excitated 🤩, it is actually my first time doing a hair growth challenge. Let's see what will come out. Btw you're my haircrush 💓💓
Have you done box braids for 3 months before? Just want to let you know that as your hair grows and they hang all the weight of the braid puts tension on just the top of each braid. So you might not want to wear your hair down after 1 month.
Yes I have! I have done box braids for longer than 6 months as well, so I'm very familiar with the process. I often redo many of the braids as they get older and "hang," but I know exactly what you mean. I will be making more videos as the challenge goes along to help people deal with some of these issues. Thanks so much for watching!
@@EfficientlyNaturalwas it 6 months + consecutively? Or did you remove the hair, protective style (just your natural hair - no added hair), then boxs braids again? Were you afraid of your hair locking?
Yes it was 6 months consecutively and I never removed the attached hair. I think it’s probably more difficult for your hair to lock when you have the added hair in the mix.. less opportunity for your hair to tangle around itself. I’ve never had issues with locking...I’m also very careful during the takedown process
So I reinstalled twist after washing my hair in twist. It was my first time re doing my parts after a month. I didn’t realize it was possible for me to successfully detangle 90% of my hair and neglect the roots. 🙈 I had a friend help me reinstall my twist to clean up my un-uniform parts. Needless to say I think I had my first setback. We didn’t even really start 😩. My roots were so matted... anyway my parts are perfect now. I couldn’t bear to look at the shed hairs (or ripped out hairs) but I’m moving on. I’d like to believe these hairs were residual shed hairs from my last two washes which had virtually no shedding . But my scalp is a lil sore. Sigh* I’m at armpit length, a few twist reach mid back and I’d be quite content with simply fuller hair. 8 more months to go ! Or 7 or 6. I’m a mess y’all. 😂
I experienced the same as you... Major setback is an understatement. Dunno how I'm gonna get through 3 months of this without redoing the matted twists 😩
I have pretty good success in dealing with matted hair. I lightly mist the matted area with water and add olive oil. I gently massage the matted area between my fingers to loosen it. Then I hold it with one hand and use the other hand to gently slide 1-2 strands at a time out of the matted hair. It’s tedious but it works!
I really wanted to join this challenge, however my birthday is this weekend so I wanted to put a protective style in my hair afterwards. I won't be officially a part of the challenge but I'll definitely follow along and "join" after my birthday weekend 😊😊 Your hair looks great and I'll be doing mini braids soon.
Omg i installed my box braids 3 days ago and i'm thinking to be with it for 4 months wich is 2 months more that i'm used to. Can you later do a vídeo on how you maintain your box braids for só long?
Wonderful job! I shocked myself with how much my hair had grown the last time I did box braids. I wanted to cut the extensions, but my hair was very close to the length, so I couldn’t. I’m excited to see the styles you decide to wear during the challenge!
I braided mine in box braids, just about 20 braids, whenever I braid my hair I do an updo which is very low bun-roll and my braids remain is this style until I'm ready to take it out. Daily I spray aloe vera juice to the braid and scalp. Because I'm doing the challenge for nine months, every the months I will redo the main four braid at the front and moisturize with aloe vera juice, moisturizer and oil and restyle for the next three months then repeat. I installed my braid on the 16th of October.
I started my hair challenge on October 23, by naturally playing my hair about 12 plays and wrapped each on with plastic seran wrap...... I'll keep you posted 🙏
Great job Nancy!! I installed box braids for the challenge and took them out a week later(this past Wednesday) they were too heavy and I cut some of the hair! But, I did use almost two packs of hair. I did a good job but next time I will use less hair! Lesson learned! Thx!
I installed box braids on 15th Oct and apart from a weekly wash, conditioner and oil, I leave them alone. I’m going for the 9month challenge with a week break between months for take down and reinstalling.
Thanks for sharing. I completed my hairstyle in the nick of time for the challenge. I installed Brazilian wool faux locs in a bob I have 150 loc in. I had to do it small as I have itchy scalp and I wanted to be able to oil my scalp effectively as per the challenge requirements. I had initially signed up for 3 months but I want to go for longer. My problem is I love to comb my hair and play around with other styles so I have to incorporate a lot of mind control to keep the locs in.
I'm getting knotless braids next weekend and the plan is to keep them in for 6-8 weeks. I commend you ladies that have the patience to do this yourself.
Beautiful results! I am always amazed at those who do their own box braids knowing how long it takes myself. Now I know you were tired after all that lol.
I'm getting my braiding hair today. I have done my own twists before but not box braids. Watching your video has given me confidence and I was afraid of ending up with a style that was too heavy but I like that you focused on using less hair. My hair length is about a third of your hair so I may have to use more hair. I didn't join the challenge but my hair has been in twists with no extensions but now I need a break from detangling every time I wash my twists. lol
Started doing this and you definitely made this look easier than I thought. This is the most difficult and most time consuming style I have done for myself but not dealing with my hair for a while is keeping me going. Your video has definitely been helpful.
Efficiently Natural I finished my braids finally. It took days but thanks to WFH I could look crazy while working since we don’t do zoom calls but Skype calls (audio only). I’m really enjoying the hair already. I wish you did a weekly moisturizing routine while you had the braids in. Maybe something to consider whenever you get your hair braided again.
That’s a great idea!!! Just did one with twists but will definitely have to do one for braids as well. Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying the braids. It’s definitely always a relief when you don’t have to mess with your hair.
I braided my hair Yesterday (blond box braids) I moisturized it with rose water and glycerin then added Melanin Hair Care Twist Styling Cream and my DIY Chebe Butter. My hair was so soft. I can wait to see the results by the end of the challenge 😘
Beautiful 😍 ❤️❤️
So beautiful! 😍😍😍😍

Sounds like hard work! Congrats on doing it on your own. So excited to be doing this challenge with all of you!

Wow I finally feel like I can do knot braids. That was a great and simple tutorial. Thank you!
The challenge is going great. I also did box braids 😁👍🏾
Beautiful 😍 ❤️❤️
Thank you so much. You got me to midback length effortlessly. My next goal is waist length. I love your videos.

Lovely! You mentioned that the bottom half had 20 braids. How many braids did you end up doing for the total head?
L💜VE.
Are you doing another hair challenge this time around?
This challenge is very exciting. I'm curious to know if I will reach at least the 3 months challenge 🤗 thank you so much for the motivation 😍
Me too keeping on style of a month is a challenge for me much less to go for 3/6/9 am preparing my mind mentally for this.

I love box braids but I hardly install them because I love my edges
Looks beautiful 💕
Your braids came out nicely!👍
I reinstalled 14 twists in my hair. I'll be washing my hair every 2 weeks. On the second week I tend to remoisturize and turn the twists to braids.
