AMULET STORM IS BACK! Amulet of Vigor + Escape to the Wilds - Modern Combo | Magic: The Gathering

- Bryant Cook plays Amulet Storm in a Modern League on Magic: The Gathering Online! These matches were played on: 05/09/24
The central plan of this Amulet of Vigor-based strategy is to get two copies of the namesake in play. We do this using Urza's Saga as well as The Mycosynth Gardens to create a pair of one mana artifacts. From there, we have "Karoo lands" in Simic Growth Chamber, Izzet Boilerworks, and Gruul Turf. These lands will untap generating additional mana before returning themselves.
The idea now is to play cards that generate additional land drops such as Explore, Growth Spiral, Joint Exploration, Escape to the Wilds, and in today's video - Song of Creation (A perfect addition). We believe this build is much better!

The second boilerworks was to help support Izzet charm--also we were originally playing the 4th copy in the SB. But I 100% agree. If this is the configuration we like, we should be on 4.

Hello Bryant. I want to respond to your thoughts on surveil lands in burn like your first opponent had. Let me start by saying I've been on almost exclusively burn for the better part of a decade, and I probably have over 500 matches logged between practice matches, MTGO, and tournament play. What I know is that the biggest issue burn has is that it runs out of gas and has no reliable or effective way to reload. For a while now, Burn has played 4 sunbaked canyon and 1 fiery islet. While these lands cycle, that does involve an investment of effectively two mana (the mana to activate and the sac land) which means you are possibly doing nothing else with your turn. Also, I personally have found the self-inflicted damage of these lands to matter more times than not especially considering burn is playing Eidolon and nearly every spell will cost 2 life.
I have been toying around with 1-2 surveil lands over 1 inspiring vantage and the fiery islet. Yes, I cut a vantage because I had entirely too many games where i would see 3 vantage in a game. 3 in the deck means I usually see one per game, and even if I drew all 3 in my opener I don't have to have a tap land. Admittedly, due to having an infant at home I have not gotten to experiment as much as I would like. The idea is that when you have two mana up already and a fetch, you can fetch on end step and filter your draw. In what testing I've done so far, this has let me clear junk and draw gas at a higher rate, albeit at a small sample size. I'm hoping that in the coming weeks I'll get to play more following the release of modern horizons.
I think the more curious thing was the fact your rd 1 opponent was splashing green, something burn hasn't done consistently in a couple years. I'm also thinking that may be the way to go, as there is a particular 4/4 hexproof, lifelink, vigilance, trample creature coming down on t2 waaaaay too often right now and Pick Your Poison may be the best answer for that particular menace (and it answers leyline too). I can't say I would go back to playing Atarka's Command as a fifth copy of Skullcrack, but I do think that your opponent was slightly more right than wrong.

I know in a wish deck sideboard slots are super premium, but the main deck does pass the jegantha test and you make enough mana to cast it in a long game when things go wrong. could be nice to have the free card and people might assume youre prowess or zoo g1 and prioritize dead removal

I dont think anyone will think the EpicStorm is playing zoo.

Deck is sweet, i wonder if removing boilerworks and turf and playing map as a tutor for fixing, bounce lands , gardens and saga will be better? Maybe over ponder that does not dig hard enough? Also you had an option innthe fith match 3rd game to use the manamorphose as mana fix to solve a leyline against heavy discard, with so much removal maybe it wouldnt work but at least distract the oponent
Ponder isn't legal. I've considered Map but its very rare that you use Saga but dont get Amulet.
