I remember reading someone speculating that the Alolan varients have types that were quite rare to absent in the Kanto roster. Electric, Psychic, Ice and Fairy aren't terribly common, Dragon, Steel and Ghost are exclusive to one line each, and absolutely no Dark-type are native to Kanto. This might've been an attempt to fill in more gaps.
I love regional variations, they give new life to Pokémon I haven’t thought about using in a while. I each region gets better at the concept but Alola did so well starting with them.
I might be bias because Moon was my first ever Pokemon game, but I think than all of the Alola forms are better/equal to their original counterpart. In my head Grimer and Muk were always colorfull, Exegutor it's always tall, and Dugtrio always has hair.
My first game was fire red so I see how it should be but I love alolan ratata I even had it on my team all the way to the elite four never even evolved it cuz I thought alolan raticate was ugly most of the alolan forms in my opinion were worst than their Kanto counterparts except A-ratata A-sandslash/shrew
The reason why alolan exeggcutor being dragon type is because the Hawaiian dragon, the mo'o, often shapeshift themselves as plam trees so any palm tree you see might just be a dragon in disguise
I love Alolan Ninetales and while I want to believe it's a benevolent deity of a creature, the Pokedex clearly states it only helps others because it wants you to go away 😂
Alolan forms are good though snow warning aurora veil plus blizzard from alolan ninetales plus have you ever used a galvanized alolan golem it hits like a truck with it’s hard hitting normal type moves that get boost and become electric type and gets a stab boost on top of it I want you to go against a galvanized giga impact and explosion
I absolutely love your videos! Keep up the great work and i love the variety of topics you cover. 🎉 i love facts, lore, and looking into Pokémon designs.
Basically the Alolan forms were there to balance the game when Pokemon Lets Go came out. They started to develop Let's Go around the time they were wrapping up Sun and Moon and I am sure the actual idea for the game was had well before then. The only Steel Pokemon was the retroactively typed Magnemite and there were zero dark types. Dragon and Ghost were limited to a single line of Pokemon as well. It's actually quite a clever idea to rebalance the game. Then, they expanded on the idea and it kind of ruined the concept. Variants in future games just seemed to be for the sake of keeping the gimmick going and giving evolutions to pokemon that hadn't had them before, without having to come up with reasons why they couldn't evolve before. Scarlet and Violet pretty much abandoned the concept.
I'll be real: a lot of Alolan forms... DID suck. Exeggutor made sense and was funny, Marowak was awesome, and Raichu is at least super cute and deserved... but the rest of them were really just slapping Ice-, Dark- and Steel-typings (because Alola didn't have any) on Kanto mons, regardless of inspiration. It wasn't until Galar that regional forms really came into their own. Not just because of the split evolutions and the lifting of Alola's Kanto-bias shackles, but just in terms of INSPIRATION AND CREATIVITY.

The reason for why Exegutor OG desagin ended up being short it's because the gameboy had very limited space to draw a sprite so it got squished
Okay, your animation of Alolan Raichu surfing with Gholdengo was just too precious! 😄

For me it’s Alolan Vulpix/Alolan Ninetales their designs just scream and look like they were the actual OGs/1st of their species, super majestic

I love 💖both Ninetales and Alolan Ninetales because they're very beautiful and elegent as well as my favourites.
This is a really well put together analysis.
I want to see a video like this but about Galar's regional variants
Pleeeeease talk about galarian forms?
The regional forms are the successors. Successors are those who come after. The previous ones are called predecessors.
Galar froms video when
Exeggutor palm tree is my life❤
i dont like that thumbnail i love alolan raichu!
oh you changed the thumbnail

What are you even talking about 😭?. every alola form has a reason to be the typing it is they all have lore. Nothing was just slapped on.
