Nuclear Energy in India in a carbon constrained world : Role of Indian Nuclear Society
While renewable energy is an important deployment option, nuclear power can make a vital contribution to meeting zero emission target while delivering the increasingly large quantities of base load electricity needed for global economic development. Without nuclear contribution, the cost of achieving deep decarbonization targets increases significantly. While reaching zero emission in India by 2050 may be unlikely, we need to act fast for our good as well as global good. India is doing well on renewable energy front but one must appreciate the fact that nuclear is the only base load clean energy available at the required scale in India.
