Thank you sir, I appreciate the step by step videos on both height map relief and this lithophane video. Do you know how to combine the two so without backlight its a relief (height map), and with backlight its a lithophane? I know it can be done in blender, just dont know how. Good idea for another step by step video

I think if we apply the lithophane first then apply height map relief, not just to the surface but to the wall thickness, so the thickness remains the same as it was before. The back of the plain will be uneven of course, but we only care about the surface to be a height map relief. However when I apply your height map relief method it only applies to the the surface. Maybe you know a better way

First, thank you for the kind words. While you can combine the two I do not recommend it. A bas relief and lithophanes are two different things. The bas relief is a positive from the image while the lithophane is the negative. For a bas relief you do not want the noise because it causes peaks and valleys on the surface. For the lithophane you want the noise and thickness differences because that creates the light detail. The easiest way to create a bas relief IMO is to use an AI height map generator on your image. My current favorite is the AI Marigold height map generator. Look at my post processing AI height maps video but use your image in the process instead of an AI image.

Thank you for the response. I also like/use marigold although through hugging face, not through blender itself. I'm very new in blender and got lost when you were incorporating marigold in blender(sorry 😅). In my experience with marigold noises provide more detail so i keep the de-noise lvl at 0. But thanks again for taking the time and responding. I will keep at it maybe one day I get better at blender and figure it out. Keep up the great videos@@olgwoodart4996
