When you buffed the 105 paste, some of the paste was absorbed by the pad. Since you didn't change pads between the 105 and the 205 paste, the pad still had 105 paste on it so the full effect of the finer 205 was negated. You should always use different pads for each grit to prevent this.

Awesome project, Just a recommendation, I noticed you clipped the corner while putting the chamfer on, but I always route the end grains first as it is the most likely place for chipping out, That way your long grain cut will cut out the chip out if it happens.... it appears your bit is much sharper than mine! LOL I may have to do one of these! I have a sawmill in North central Indiana (about 1 hours south of Michigan). Walnut is very popular and easy to come by here, I have several walnut trees and Cherry trees on my property. have a great trip when you come up this way!
I'm a little partial as well, I am a Semi-retired Officer, spent some time as a SWAT officer back in the day! I'll be fully retired December 4th 2021. Thank you for your service !

A tip for the polish bottle, drop a ball bearing or an nut into the bottle, it helps to mix up the polish better and breaks up any chunks that might be in it.

Nice board! Black Walnut is one of my favorite woods to work with, especially when it is highly figured. Living in the northeast we have access to incredible hardwoods like walnut, cherry, applewood, alder, oak, maple... If you are interested in some highly figured wood that is hard and dense get some applewood. It is incredible when finished.

You have to LOVE black walnut wood! I was given 4 dump truck loads of logs just weeks ago to cut up in firewood.
Inside that pile was a tree of black walnut. I made the mistake years ago of cutting up a beautiful black walnut tree for firewood, but it was either take it then or the tree guys will after I leave. That was back in the hurricane Sandy days. Swore i would never do that again so this time I ordered a new chainsaw and the Alaskan chainsaw mill. This should be fun to make a NICE coffee table from that tree. Question on the polishing > weren't you concerned on getting the polish grit embedded into the wood during the process? I know walnut is tight grained but that worried me. Great looking piece for sure!
