But here again for interested viewers: 12:20 There are several coutries in Europe that had Franks before the introduction of the Euro. There are French Franc and also Swiss and e.g. Belgium Frank(en). Centimes are basically the Cents. Same for France and Belgium, so it's easy to mix that up. The coin you found in the machine said "Belgie" which means Belgium in French. So that machine was most likely in Belgium at some point. BTW Switzerland still uses Franken because they are not part of the EU, even if they are totally surrounded by it. Swiss neutrality i guess. 😀

No matter how many of your videos I watch, I'm still fascinated with EM technology. It's amazing how each solenoid and switch are designed to do specific things! And glad we've got to the bottom of the machines whereabouts, what with the evidence on the coin door and the Belgie found inside - It was obviously owned by a Belgian called Frank..!?
It's fascinating stuff, I never really get tired of it, plus we're saving them 1 at a time, that's pretty cool.

@@LyonsArcade Actually Ron, they are both going right now. I'm 54 (for perspective) and got into the pinball obsession about 10 years ago when I bought a Gottlieb 'Pin Up' which was the add-a-ball version of 'King-Pin'. I've now bought and sold about 15 different EM pins. I have 4 right now, all working. I would have more but as you know space is always a concern. I have a friend who fixes EM's but he lives about 45 min. away and it's a pain in the a** to load up a machine and drive it out to his place. So, watching your in-depth tutorials has helped a great deal in understanding what to troubleshoot and how these things work. I really like the schematic deciphering videos you do because I get confused reading those. You did a great job restoring 'Triple Action'. The playfield restoration looked very good honestly. I would shop at your store if I didn't live 6 states way (upstate NY). Maybe i'll buy one of your coffee mugs online, lol. Keep up the pinball repair videos !
Could you do a WHOLE video in the “Tighten the switch stacks first!” voice? Imagine the person who didn’t like your announcer voice hearing that? Just a thought. I truly enjoyed that part. All your videos are great. Now that they are parting out the museum in Banning, CA this is the only chance I’ll ever see a lot of these machines.

My friend bought one of these "multiball not working". After some playing around with the glass off, we started placing balls in all the locks, and it turned out the machine expected a ball to be in one of the right side spots that are above each other, and a previous owner had just thrown it in the outhole. After we put it in the correct one, it all worked perfectly.
It actually even says that in the manual, if they would have read it they would have figured it out eventually, lol It's one of those things where in regular gameplay it should stay working like that, but if you ever take the balls out of it, it might get confused where the balls are! Good job getting that one going!

Glass cleaner to remove dust and stuff. Lysol to disinfect. Never use anything with bleach to clean or disinfect unless you dont like the paint. Spray on and wipe off immediately. Dont want to get the wood wet
I agree with gopooalready please (what a name). If it's any of the Konami stuff (Simpsons, TMNT) be very careful with the sideart, if you spray cleaner on it it will just take the art right off the game! Might want to test a spot first.

It still amazes me that they were able to make these and make them work
Well if you think about it and see enough of them, it makes sense.. so for instance, the complexity of the machines grew over time. So the early ones were just mechanical, a ball is plunged into a playfield and it lands in a hole. Then you put a penny in and the ball drops back down to the shooting lane. Then they added lights ran off a battery. Then they added a bumper that moves if the ball hits it. Then they added a switch that turns on another light. Then they added a switch that turns on a relay that makes everything worth more points... then they added a motor to make it keep score, etc. So while this one looks really complex, they had made simpler ones before that worked just fine, so they figured, why not add one more thing :)

Analog Relay computer, love how they first had to work out game-play design and then translate it to relay switches , 4 years later mid 70s they started to use ic's i think , my nephew had this machine plus fireball ( the one with the superhero throwing a fireball) in the late 70s , used to be worth peanuts by then since digital was the rage

I am really tempted to get one of those pinball schematics and (1) make a version with logic IC's, (2) write some code to do the same. Neither should be very hard to do.
Back in 1986 I did an internship with a large petrochemical company. They had a large gantry crane (one that picks up big stuff, like shipping containers) and the schematics for that thing were all ladder logic (inside all the logic was relays). My assignment was to "translate" it into logic symbols. Great learning experience.
He used to be a radio announcer now he makes millions repairing pinball machines.
Not quite a million yet, but we're still fixing them :)

maybe the volcano slip thing is there for the motor because it doesn't stop dead when power is off to the motor, but the ring gear is stopped dead by the relay catching the ring, what ya think, is my theory good....lol (could be a job offer on the table)

I actual just put some brand new roll over switches I bought from marcos on a Firepower and if I didn’t tighten down the switch enough there was a space between the short leaf and main stack so it wasn’t making solid connection and actin really really funky 😂 from Indiana so your north logic may be correct 😂🤣 Love the vids man!

The "sock" thing on the paper pad could be a flipper pawl.
On the one with 33 gauge wire, wouldn't that be weaker so it doesn't get as hot? The one beside the lock relay is 31, and that uses larger wire. With gauges, the smaller the number, the larger it is.

JOES CLASSIC, For the LOCK coil to not get warm or burned you would use a thicker gauge wire and less winding or more windings? The LOCK COIL doesn't push in, the lock coil pushes out which is reverse from all the other coils because when energized the coils push in but the Lock coil pushes out?

There is a gray wire that looks like it has broken off somewhere close to that Relay that has got quite hot.
JOE, did you ever figure out what that 3300 Resistor for the Volcano Hole Relay was used for? because I have never seen a resistor being used like that on EM pinball schematics from most of your videos I have watched so its unusual to have a Resistor placed across in parallel with a relay.
I'm not positive what they used that for, I never figured it out!

These things look like lots of fun to fix. Do you use a test light in troubleshooting? I’ve have the same test light I first made in 1998.
theodore I never use a test light, but My Brother Donnie uses one all the time, he swears by them. I always use a meter, but if you wrapped your head around the concept of a test light I can see where that could track down about any problem.

@@LyonsArcade It would take Francs as well, but French Francs instead of Belgian Francs. Both countries had their own currency back in the day. Both were called Francs, but were different currencies. Both Belgium and France have the Euro as their currency nowadays.
'België' actually means 'Belgium' in Flemish. :)
Got a bunch of machines at home from france, switzerland, luxemburg and belgium. All of these countries used Francs at some point in time (Switzerland still use swiss franc while Belgium, Luxemburg and France switched to Euro in early 2000). On the coin doors i got FRF or FF for french francs, FR for both Belgium and Luxemburg Franc and CHF for swiss franc.

That coin is a half a Belgian Frank (50 Centimes, where the word cent comes from). They've not been in use since 2001, so it's been in there are least 20 years.
The customer said his father has owned it they think for 25 years in the states

And it had a safety feature where if you didn't have the seatbelt on you couldn't play the game. Pretty neat unit that was :)

I'm from Belgium , the 50 Centimes (. = 1/2 frank ) isn't worth a lot :p However, if I see the coin slot, it says 1fr and 1/2 fr ( 50 centimes) . In 1975 when I was a kid a single game cost 5 frank here.
Wondering if this machine is converted to run on 220V , and if it plays 5 or 3 balls (majority of the machines here have 5 balls per game)
Thanks Peter, these pinballs were easily converted to different voltages by moving a wire on the transformer (and changing the plug), there was a HZ difference too but I think all that did was make the score motor run faster or slower depending on what Hz was fed into it. It was set on 5 ball play but that is also easily changed with a little plug.
@@LyonsArcade When it plugs in here, the Volcano motor runs slower on 50 Hz. :). This machine must be left the factory and shipped straight to Belgium, 1fr was the price for e 5-ball game in the early seventies , by 1976 it was 5 francs

Hi, can you tell me what energizes the 3rd ball relay? I have a 72 fireball and it's causing me grief LOL I have ordered a schematic. Thanks.

The 3rd ball relay is how it keeps track of where all the balls are, it's the only way it can tell if you're still playing a ball. So basically all three balls have to be on a switch somewhere for the 3rd ball relay to come on, and it only does it when the outhole relay comes on.
So 1 ball needs to be on trough switch 1 (it drained) and the other two balls have to be on
Trough 2
Trough 3
Odin saucer
Wotan saucer
Any of those two switches will make the third ball relay come on.

If you pull the 100-point blue mushroom up the zipper flippers will machine gun-like slingshots out of adjustment. Thank you for the online Fireball schematic! And once again thank you for the help.

Yeah it really does seem like it was more hands on and the logic although simpler, they had to be very creative with it. Wait till we do some of the bingo pinball machines, they had 'mixing units' in them that made semi random odds for winning the game, and things like that. Biggest problem I see is that there were neither dinosaurs nor people around 4 million years ago. PS, 33 gauge is thinner wire than 31 gauge. But by putting more wraps (2800 vs 1800) the can generate the same magnetic field with a lower current, so it shouldn't run as hot as the other relays - but more expensive since more copper.

I stopped using an ohm meter to check coils
I use a 9 volt battery. In fact the spacing of the terminals on the battery are about the same as the lugs on coil. No jumpers needed

It’s due to the number of turns which increases the inductance and draws less current for AC. I think the wire is thinner
since it carries less current and keeps the relay about the same diameter as the other ones.

could you claarify? We all know most of Europe is the Euro now, but that machine is old. The Centime Ron found is from Belgium but France also had the Franc when that machine was made. Euro came to France and Belgium on January 1st 2002 (as coins and notes)
