How to Stop Carpet/Rug on Carpet from slipping

- It took me 3 different tries/patterns to get the results I wanted. It works fantastic. I was worried about tape being to strong if I ever wanted to pull the carpet off the carpet. But to my surprise, I had to pull the carpet up several times during this experiment and each time the carpet came up with no issues. The double sided carpet tape is a medium minus adhesive in my opinion. Anyway, this works great and more so, it made the Wife happy.

Thank you so much for your in-depth review and mistakes you made at first saving us from making the same mistakes. Work a treat! Thank you
Glad you saw the video. Mine is stll holding firm. Don't know what it will be like when I ever pull it up. I think it will come up ok but I fear that carpet my be discolored brighter than the surrounding carpet. I don't know. We shall see someday!
Sometimes we get a carpet for a carpet for a few reasons...one is to keep a high traffic area manageable. The 2nd is....to borrow from the Big Lebowski....a rug can really tie a room together! But I swear, you go to bed, wake up and the carpet has walked itself several inches across the room. I believe just the earth's rotation does it lol
That is a funny comment. I know what you mean. I watch the big Lubowski and it was a funny movie, fact is, I just watched it again a couple weeks ago. I hadn’t seen it in years.
Thanks for this! i'm just about to get a bunch of area rugs to cover up a hideous carpet i'm not allowed to rip out and have had SO much annoyance in the past with rugs slipping on carpet and this gives me hope my life won't be spent straightening these rugs out! Also you sound so much like Mickey Rooney it absolutely made my day feeling like he was giving me diy tips 💕
Mickey Rooney. I haven’t heard that name for a long time. Mine have been in place since I made that video. Have not moved 1/8 of an inch. Still in the same spot. I have never pulled those carpet runners up. I hope the carpet underneath is the same color, because you know how carpet fades sometimes. Oh well, it is what it is. The tape did the job I was looking for.
Beautiful video. Very helpful. Thanks so much😃
Yes my carpet is still down I have not moved it since the day I put it down and it has not moved. it is still in the same exact position. Just kind of worried if I ever do take it up if the carpet underneath will be a different lighter color.
This is a perfect "how to do..." video.
Thank you.
You’re welcome. Glad you found it. so far mine is still in place and has not moved Period. it’s been there so long now that I am almost afraid to pull it up because I hope the carpet underneath doesn’t look cleaner than the surrounding carpet
@@windsurfed1 ha ha ha, yeah that is a mild concern 🙂
Great review. Thank you again.
Thanks for doing the leg work for us! Appreciate that, as I just got one roll and am in dire need of this to work!! Lol!
I did mine about 2 years ago this December.
Have now tried to take them up yet. Who know what will happen. I thing I do know though is that the carpets have not move 1/4 and inch. Still in the same spot when I orginally put them down.
Thanks for sharing your experience, especially the extra money you had to spend.
I always like to experiment. Anyway, the carpets are still in the exact spot I taped them down. Been almost 3 years. I wonder when and if I ever go to pull them up it will be as easy as it was when I first started. Also I wonder if the carpet underneath will be brighter than the outside carpet as it may have faded.
Thanks so much for your help (and your tape/time) investment. This was going to be my next move. Another thought was to "paint" the back of the throw rug with that rubber sealer seal on TV. I thought a thick roller would leave small "peaks" when dry, thus providing a more secure grip into my wall-to-wall carpeting. That will be my last resort if your tape method doesn't work with my rugs. Wish me luck...and thanks again!
Mine have been on there since I made that video and they have not moved 1 inch or even 1/4 of an inch. However, I have never pulled them up so I don’t know what it would be like I just hope the carpet underneath is still the same color as the other carpet. it’s been on there for so long. Not too worried about pulling it up. But at this point I guess there’s no reason to pull it up but I sure am happy with the method. Maybe your rubberized method on the back might work also.
@@windsurfed1 Good to know. Thanks again!
rubber seal doesnt work. my rug came with the anti slip rubber seal on it and it wont stay put it keeps moving around.
Tried Rugies which made it even worse and double sided tape didnt work either. But i only put the tape around the edges. so might try it the way in the vid to see if that works as im fed up of keep having to put the rug back in place every few hrs. i can actualy see the rug moving even when a spider walks across it lol.
brand new carpet and as my old 1 was badly worn in the spot were i sit cause of my feet being on it so much i bought a rug to put there to give a longer life to the carpet. but the bloody thing wont stay put.
Think its alive and has legs under it cause it just keeps moving across the room even with a heavy weight on it it still walks across the room lol.
@@cliffbird5016 I know, I tried everything and was just as frustrated as you. My carpet kept moving all the time till I tried this method and it still has not moved since I made this video.
Only thing is I hope when I ever do pull this carpet up that there is a color difference in the carpet where it was laid under.
Thank you so much. I’m going to give this a try. I’ve tried almost everything else!
Mine is still on the carpet I have never pulled it up. It has not moved. I’ve had no need to pull it up. But when I do I hope everything is going to be OK as I have never lifted the carpet up.
Sorry I did not reply to you. I’m just now seeing this for some odd reason. Mine has been on there for quite some time. I have never pull the carpet up. When I do I hope it comes up easily. I believe it will.
Great informative video. Annoying is rugs slipping. Onto mine now with this pattern. 👍
Yes it has worked for me for quite some time now. I have not pull the rugs up at all. Hopefully they will come up easily one day.
@@windsurfed1 excellent 👍😊
Great video. Nice paintings I bet you created those.
Actually my daughter painted them all. Those were her earliest one. I thought they were cool so I hung them in the house.
l
Looks like it works....going to try this out! Thanks for showing this.
Have not taken the carpet up since I put it down so I do not know what to expect if I ever take the carpet up but so far it’s held in place.
My 2x3 metre rug slipped in in one direction on the main carpet ,so I use several short small headed nails on one end only into the wooden floor acting as an anchor, bit drastic but works a treat, cant see them and they are easily removed, UK...
Good Move! Nice that the nails come up easy.
Thankyou so much!
Mine has been on there since, well when I put it on there. I have never taken it off. It’s still working. I hope it comes off well when I pull it up someday. It has never moved.
Get into a bind and this thing is a life saver
Glad you could use the information in the video. Hope it works good for you.
Hi! I'm wanting to do something similar. I'm renting and have cats and don't want the carpet ruined. I know you said it comes off of the bottom of your runner easily, have you seen if the tape comes off of the top of your base carpet as well? (Thank you again for your video).
Tell you the truth, since I put the carpet down in the video I Have never pulled the carpet up. It’s been in place for a long time.
In the video the tape never stuck to the base carpet at all.
Hmmm question... my understanding is that you are protecting the “wall-to-wall carpet” with another rug/carpet but then when you put all that tape down on the wall to wall carpet doesn’t it look bad once you remove the tape? After months or years? Hmm just curious??
Good question. Wife wanted a runner down the hall where all the traffic is so it doesn’t wear the carpet out fast. So, we put the tape down put the runner on top of it, and left it at that. Theoretically, you could pull the runner up, the tape would come up with the runner, and the carpet underneath would be in perfect condition. However, I haven’t been able to test it for months and months or years and years. So your guess is as good as mine as to any possibility that could happen when you pull the runner up. Again, however, I was confident enough that everything would turn out OK. We shall see! Someday. Just basing this opinion on the low adhesiveness of the tape.
How plush is your carpet? I bought a hearth rug to protect my carpet in front of my wood stove and it moves all over the place when walked on.
My carpet is a low cut pile carpet.
Hi,..what about vacuum cleaning? Does the force of vacuuming over the runner cause it to dislodge?
No, absolutely not. That runner has been in place from day one and hasn’t budged 1 inch we vacuum over it all the time.

Many thanks for your reply.
How would it be if you put a piece of heavy furniture on it? I have a dining room thin rug 12x10 that I laid on top of wall to wall carpet …. My heavy dinning room table on top of it. Well, it rolls up it won’t stay flat flat!! How do I keep it flat?? I’ve done everything but stand on my head!! I wish I could take a pic of it😳😬
I would think that the method I used would make that piece of carpet stay there so that when you put a heavy piece of furniture on it it will stay in place and not roll up. That is just a guess though. Since you’ve tried everything you might as well try this method the worst they could do was fail the best it could do would be to do exactly what you wanted to do
@@windsurfed1 exactly!!! I will give it a go!! Thank you for your reply!!!!!
Thank you!
It worked for me even now Hope it works for you too.
@@windsurfed1 does the tape leave any residue after pulling up?
You know, I really can’t say because I pulled the rugs up while experimenting and it left no residue behind but now the carpets have been down for a very long time and I am asking the same question now. I have not pulled the carpet up since I put them down
@@windsurfed1 ok, thanks
If you do pull it up let me know
I’m preparing to lay down area carpet over existing carpet in RV, have an older little doggie now who has potty challenges now. I can pull up area carpet and replace easily but hopefully the tape doesn’t mess up original carpet. I’ll let you know as well if I’m first to have to pull up and replace
Ok let me know.
Is it still holding/not slipping after a year?
Totally. It has not moved at all.
I tries this, it didn’t work ☹️
Well, I don’t know what to tell you. It seem to work for everybody else. I hope you use the right tape.
Can you be my neighbor? I need help with other problems.
I know what you mean. Little things like that makes life a little more easier.
You could just get some nails and put that stuff down
I thought about that but the wife didn’t think that was a good idea.
