It is true that the traction control is not very effective, in any case the ESP includes the traction control, and also the stability control (brakes the wheels according to the inclination of the car by a gyrometer located in the trunk), that is really pure shit. Imagine that you had to counterbalance to avoid a truck, but not too much to avoid a pram in front, and well the ESP will send you directly in front after correcting your trajectory, this is very dangerous. How to turn off this shit without disabling the traction control (which is part of the ESP)? ABS is really good but ESP is holy shit 90>2000+
Was driving in the snow last night and the ESP off was like driving with no tread on the tyres, but with it on is like the car knows your inputs forefront. Amazing safety aid.
I had a lesson in how effective esp systems are on a circular skid pan in an AMG Mercedes - 6.3L, 500+Hp, rear wheel drive. Driving nice and slow, instructor says tap the throttle: Esp on - nothing, car just went round a little faster... Esp half off - horrible, car allows back end to step out just enough so I instinctively tried to correct, by which time the car had got bored waiting for the pathetically slow driver to correct and had already done so - zig-zagged in a saw toothed circle. Esp fully off - car just span around 360 decrees before I could react!
@@antton9623 if one wheel gets into wheelspin, the differential bring all the force to this wheel and the other stand still. Thats the effect of a normal differential. To prevent this, you can bring a soft touch to the brake while you accelerate to bring the force to each wheels. Thats the same what a electrik differential lock does but preventive not reactive. That makes this techniq in icey conditions better. 😊
That is obvious that you have to turn off esp when driving in such conditions. I learned about it when I was talking to people living in the mountains.
I always off ESP (so traction control is also off) when i drive on snow. I always had problems with hill with ESP becouse it braking tire spin and i loose my speed. Without ESP i have tire spin but i can control it with gas pedal and almost always go on top of hill with only front drive.
@@escaravelhocheiodelume makes absolutely sense if you are also capable of modulating your brake pressure around slip limit 5-10 times per second as a modern systems do...
I found it quite amusing watching the car slide down the hill. One thing you might also want to consider is snow tyres. Quattro will only get you so far. Tyres are the only point of contact between you and the road surface, so getting it right is key.
People here are awful they stay at home because 2cm snow 😂 they had to close the High Fen (the only region which has a halfway decent amount of snow every year) because of all the tourists from Flanders, Netherlands or northern part from Wallonia, for which snow is an attraction.
Around 0 C is the most slippery usually if the road is frozen. That is because you have same time nearly liquid water on top of ice. When it gets colder, the traction gets better. Second thing, it's all about tires. You need proper winter tires in snow. ;-)
No electronic aid can cope wth a torsen differential (not to mention 3), which is as analogue as it gets. Of course you don't need TC in such conditions anyway - the best is having just a little slip to get forward.
It’s not power it needs tho if your wheel is spinning constantly it won’t find traction and grip to the road. The engine cutting off power for a brief moment will allow the spin to reset, so it can find traction again. Too much power will just lead to wheel spin which won’t grip at all
in VW cars ESP contains ASR (or TC). I have a 2005 Sharan TDI 2WD, and it has ESP, which activates when it is going to drifting, and/or prevents wheel slip when accelerating.
Stability control doesnt have a lot to do when going up a hill in the snow. Traction control does the most
Traction Control is built into Electronic Stability Program which means on his second try the Traction Control is switched off.

ESP will only react if there is a yaw moment... traction controll is more helpful in icy conditions.
ESP will react in all directions. Traction Control is part of the ESP together with ABS.

Esp is tc
