My understanding is that the tax on sale of property, imposed via budget 2024 is misconceived by many. Please look at the ITO 2001 Schedule 1: Part 1: Division VIII. The 15% rate does NOT apply to all. Especially where holding period is more. Furthermore, the new taxes will be applicable to newly purchased properties
punjab and sindh high courts have given decision in favour of 7e. Balouchistan, islamabad and kpk high courts have given decision against the 7e. Now the case is with supreme court. Last decision was given by baluchistan high court, that is worth reading. Kindly raise this question with lawyer in the program to clarify.

Good informative show. Everyone discusses that we need to broaden the tax base which requires untaxed sectors to be brought under tax net. When the Govt brings them in tax net; this kind of debate on fundamental rights is ignited. Must ask the guest for potential solutions as well if this methodology is not used? And what do other countries do when people are not paying taxes? Task of broadening the tax base through goodwill has been practiced for the past 75 yrs and it has failed. Need concrete solution.

Real estate sector was untaxed for almost 2 decades and contributed next to nothing in our economy. True that this attempt is irrational but the logic behind these taxes are to unlock wealth that was undertaxed for 75 years. Govt has tried to incentivise the real estate sector but it yeilded nothing apart from property tycoons Apart from fiscal reason i have a suspicion that there is is a political reason to punish the property tycoons who are still funding anti establishment forces.

Here is how, people in rural Pakistan sell land and that's their heritage lands that they sell on which the government has removed exemption of 10 years old properties pertaining to capital gains tax causing them to be left with a lot less money than they anticipated
