Excellent show Ali bhai. Reading Urdu on one’s phone/laptop is also difficult because of the script (nastaleeq) issue which you highlighted because sometimes a browser or device won’t have the font packages on it. Not to mention it becomes even more difficult to read urdu in Arabic script because of the lack familiarity and it’s even harder in night mode for some reason. Just a painful ux. But the point around how this would help with literacy is incredible. Kudos.
Notice how when your Mobile Service provider send you SMS, they send it not in English, nor in Nastaliq Urdu... but in Roman Urdu. Jazz, Zong, Telenor, Ufone, all of them use it. The message starts with 'Moaziz Sarif', not 'Dear Customer' or 'معزز صارف' so in reality they realise that's the text what they need to use.
I completely agree with this initiative. After establishing romanization standards for Urdu, there should be books for teaching Urdu to foreigners as a second or third language. Currently, there are no learning materials available unless one learns Urdu through traditional script. My wife (Polish) is trying to learn Urdu, but it’s extremely difficult due to the script and the lack of available learning materials.
Zabrdst Ali Zabrdst what a great new progressive idea ye to mere bh kbi mind me ni aya. Please make a signature page and I'll be the first to sign it. ❤
I have given this a lot of thought in the past, I am fully behind your proposal. I am also in favor of developing local tech to advance Urdu literacy and literacy in general in Pakistan. But first some "body" needs to standardize Roman Urdu. Like, in your website you are using "k" for Urdu word "kay", which is something very informal.
Very interesting conversation. Mandarin language has two components: pinyins and characters. Pinyins are in roman alphabets. If you research a little about it, it will be quite interesting for you to know how much it will be helpful for you in your cause. Pinyins are being taught in schools, and new learners, before learning Chinese characters. It has ebabled learning chinese language easier to the whole world.
I have also thought about romanising Hindi growing up. If this would have done 100 years back then Hindi and Urdu might not have evolved into separate languages. However there is less of a need of these things as AI will solve these issues .
tension nhi leni ase ai models banchu han jo kish bhi languangw ki voice ko kisi bhi dorasi languange voice mien convert kar dete han, thore time mein youtube aur dosare social media plateforms pe implement bhi ho jae ga
New generation is also not interested in Urdu because Urdu script is difficult to learn. They are comfortable speaking it but do not want to write it. If the govt standardized Roman it will be a boom for the economy. Urdu will become instantly searchable online and easy to translate print. Case in point is Malaysian which is also Romanized.
Aoa, me app se bilkul itefaaq krta hoo. Me bator e paisha aik Data Scientist hoo, data collection aur anaylsis etc acha jaanta hoo, agr iss project me meri skills ki zroort ho tou zroor bataye ga.

Totally agree we missed the train long time ago. We should have done this in 80s when computers were coming and also for typewriters.
Ali Aftab sahab, you are great ❤

As someone who struggles with Urdu, and finds it needlessly complex to read and write, I support this.
Genius thought!

Romanization of Punjab hindi urdu will bring more readers to these languages.
Interesting conversation. Place of urdu in education needs to be thought atleast.
Urdu digitization is also essential.
We have hinglish which is hindi written in roman script. It can be downloaded on Samsung Keyboard.

Adopt Devnagari script. Far better than Nastaliq
