The HBRC failed to order the opening of the bar before another predicted high rainfall event. The legendary contractor cleared it on his own initiative with no guarantee of payment and saved the town. The HBRC payed him but could resist in retaliating by saying if his efforts hadn’t been successful they wouldn’t have paid him for his effort.
Why didn’t the iwi exercise some responsibility & get out there with their shovels & waders & clear the river mouth; instead of expecting a County Council to do the job? Regards Dave McC
Mr Little is the most reasonable sounding mayor I have heard speak in a long while. He sounds like a common sense and practical person. Pity the numb skulls in the council don't support his logical way of thinking.
Craig has his claws as everyone else, I don't agree with everything he's done as mayor no one from wairoa will. But he's spot on here and I don't think anyone in town will disagree W him.
Good point, they should. Hbrc endangered the contractors wellbeing by delaying actions and waiting until conditions were perilous to send them out despite everyone wanting it done on Friday or during the weekend
Anyone will tell you the Regional council are arrogant to deal with, they really need to go through some structure changes and get rid of the bad wood holding them back they seriously need to clean out the bad blood, time for some serious changes.
Thats the problem in Nz. No one is ever held to account.
Government needs to step in n sack them

This is appalling..
Those poor people need to have financial compensation for this egregious lack of judgement and action from seat warming burecrats.
Absolutely right and disgusting behavior from the council
