Your video helped this single mom big time. I have a great technician/Mechanic. He came and did all the diagnostics. He told me the part I needed and said watch a UA-cam video and you can change it or you teenage son can. So my son and I did it together so we would both learn. something new. I saved my self $150. My technician checked it out aftwrward and it fixed everything. I just had to change the intake.
I had gotten the codes from Autozone and ordered the parts (both intake and exhaust) online, $30 for the pair. Received them today and used your video as a guide. Took all of 20 minutes and only that long because one of the clips had become brittle over time and broke into pieces. Used air hose to clean out loose dirt/dust and wiped clean with a rag before removing parts (also put oil cap back on before blowing out the dirt). Went out for a drive and it definitely resolved our stalling problem. Thank you! That would have cost a pretty penny at a mechanic and we had previously had a mechanic give us a different and far more expensive diagnosis. My wife's car and I am now her hero ... well, for now anyway.
Just saved 410.93 just by watching this video. Thank you 🤟🏽
I got the P0010 and the P0011 codes. I replaced the intake camshaft actuator and within 30 minutes of driving the codes went away. Mine is a 2014 Equinox with the 2.4L. The car ran better instantly. I am considering changing the exhaust one as well. A lot of forums online said you might as well because the other one is likely to fail soon after the other. Thanks for the video, save me $300.
Thank you so much for this video. I had the same papers from O'Reilly and they couldn't find the part (paper says actuator but the part is called a solenoid). The part number you included was VERY helpful and also the socket size since I haven't replaced my stolen tools and had to buy a new socket (new part needed 8mm socket). Drove it for about a mile after I changed the part and the engine light went away. You even included torque specs. You Rock!
Excellent video, it was exactly what I was looking for. I replaced the camshaft intake valve in about 15min and saved about $150.
This video was a life saver! Thanks! The part where you detach the connector from the sensor was blocked but I eventually figured it out.
Man your the best thanks for this video did everything to the T and it only took about 20 mins to do. Saved a lot of money before a road trip
Just got an estimate for $500 to replace both solenoids (parts and labor) I will be doing this myself. Thanks a million buddy!!!
melsont somebody quoted me 2500. Told me he would have to take the entire engine out. All I had to do was take out the parts and clean them. Took 30 min.
Wait so just cleaning them out worked for you? Did you use a specific cleaner or brush? Thanks
Chris RW cleaning them is just a temporary solution. I used an engine degreaser and a paper towel to clean them though.
Did they say with a straight face?
Thanks so much! My 2009 cobalt was running slightly rough at times (particularly a rough idle) and giving code P0010. I replaced both the intake and exhaust camshaft position actuator solenoid valves and that fixed it. The parts were GM 12655421 and 12655420 for my vehicle (2.2 L ecotec engine, 2009 cobalt)
I just replaced both intake and out take solenoids. It took me over an hour since it was a pain in the ass to get the electrical connections disconnected. Thing was super tight.
Thank you so much! This video saved me so much hassle after breaking down.
Followed this video step by step was able to fix my problem thank you for posting this! Only coast $45.00 for the part
Thank you sir for this video, the part number helped big time. I just completed this job on my wife's 2014. Saved myself 4 to 7 hundred dollars.
Got a 2014 as well, problem just started today that part worked im guessing?
THANK YOU - this helped me quickly replace this part in a 2012 Equinox -
This video was vary helpful. Thank you for uploading this saved me money and time.
I just did this fix and only $50 and 10 min of work. Thank you!!!
Thanks a ton for posting this. Just got quoted $550 to do this by my dealer. Will be taking care of it myself this weekend.
Your welcome glad I could help
You are the man! This worked for me as well, thank you C2H6
I replaced both of them today .check engine ligth. Turn off like in one hour..Thanks for your video
thank you! This fix cleared my check engine light in '13 Equinox.
Donal Lydon did the check engine light come off immediately?
Good stuff! Just replaced it myself, thanks for your help!
to whoever made this video thank you
Just saved hundreds of dollars today. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I went through 3 of these Intake solenoids. My 2013 Chevy Equinox Eco 4valve was under warranty, so I usually just took it the dealership to get fixed. Well now, my truck is no longer under warranty, saw your video and replaced it myself. I know I saved a lot of money doing it myself. Took me 15 minutes. THANK YOU!!
The 2013 equinox does have a huge problem with oil consumption. I usually have to put 2 quarts of oil in between oil changes now. I currently have 119k miles on it.
I know it sucks huh, same thing with mine
I have the same oil problem. Did yours throw a P0011 code?
Means you have a coughed crank case vent hole
Can't thank you enough. This will be saving me $$$$
GREAT JOB! TRIED IT AND IT WORKED TO PERFECTION,!
Few mistakes you made
1) The gray clip doesn't need to come off (only pushed upwards) & the black tab needs to be depressed as you pull the plug upwards.
2) Clean the area really well so that junk doesn't fall into the oil when you pull the unit (I've seen pebbles and sand here...not good for engine internals)
3) Remove the bolt BEFORE pulling the unit out or it may fall into the oil galley (like it almost did in this video)
Great tips. thanks
Thanks for the information it really help me alot I was able to fix...
It is a good idea to thoroughly clean the area around the solenoids before pulling them out. You really don’t want dirt dropping down in there.
thank you for the video helped out alot!
Awesome video! Thank you so much!!!
Very helpful, thanks!
Sorry to bother you but if I may, what was the mileage (guesstimate) at replacement and since replacing the parts has your folks had any more problems? Wife has a '13 w/ 125k miles an it just threw P0013 Exhaust side. However all I'm hearing now has to do with this 2.4 Oil Consumption Litigation suit. Such is life. Thanks for your time.
Ps, absolutely loved the ending of the video, really enjoy my 2012 LML. 😉
I tried doing this using aftermarket solenoids, didn't work and caused the car to stall. New parts resistance within acceptable range. I then used ACDelco (GM) and it worked like a charm!
Alright, I replaced them and put everything back as it should be. When I lightly accelerate I can still feel a jerk, but no stalling. Could it be that I didn't tighten the bolts enough? I had to improvise with vice grips because my ratchet didn't fit the socket.
Nice video, however, if your going to replace one actuator, replace both because the other one will usually go out in a short time. Also, make sure to rub a little oil around the seal of the actuator when inserting it in the engine block. Other than that, good video.
thanks! just changed both of mine. =)
RejectedManiac Thanks
Thanks bro
The video starts off talking about a Chevy impala. Is it the same exact instructions for an equinox?
I just had my mechanic do both my intake and exhaust he followed this video and I paid $100 labor was that a fair price. The parts cost $98 I bought them myself so I know I was straight with that.
That seems fair
You paid too much for the parts 😉
Big difference between diy and a quality technician. We can't just replace parts suspected. Every owner expects a 100% fix. Understanding oiling system and sensor function and testing is paramount. Observe data, tests on sensors with simulations and temperature variation. Cleaning oil ways, cleanliness and correct torquing and retesting data comparisons to confirm fix. Clearing of codes and health check systems associated are all part of a quality job.
I note in replies to post there are stalls, light still up, parts swap out non fixes, broken off bolts and dirty repairs. We indemnify the customer against these problems unless caused by 3rd party prior or state of repair area.
your voice made me quit smoking 😫
I just save me a car payment amount by doing this myself. It wasn't that hard at all. Good look man
In the beginning of the video grey (intake) was forward of engine and black (exhaust) was in back. In the end of the video, they are reversed. What's correct?
I know this is late but lol your are correct he installed them in reverse which is incorrect
So is it recommended to change both sensors at same time or just the specific one with the code
Dont change just one that will keep causing problems replace both
Engine has no compression any ideas?
Do this sensor (s) replacement eliminate the check engine? if yes, what you need to do to remove the check engine light after replace it (them) thanks. I have the same problem and want to eliminate check engine for inspection. thanks.
If the issue is the sensor it should eliminate the code. You may be able to drive it a few days and it code will go away by itself but best is to go to local auto store and have them clear it. Sometimes they will refuse to clear it but just have to get the right person or run the scanner yourself. Lots of obd2 bluetooth scanners for use with your phone that will clear basic engine codes.
How long after u did this did it take for the engine light to go off
I reset it with a code reader
MAY GOD BLESS YOU. IM SUBSCRIBE YOU SAVE ME A HEADACHE
Would this be the same process for the v6 version of the equinox?
I would assume but cannot confirm that
I have a 2015 that's stalling at lights and stop signs, no warning lights ..Nothing, someone said its the cam sensor needs replacing, is this the same as you just did? Do you think this is my problem ?
Martin Duffy did you ever fix your 2015? My 2015 is doing the same.
my 2013 terrain doing the same thing, any word on you guy problems?
Got this today and car starts but no gear is accepted and oil all over
Hello great help but I was doing this and the bolt broke in one of the sensor what do I to remove it
Drill and easy out is what I would try first or if you have a welder try to weld a nut on what is left of the stud. Always a pain to remove a broken bolt.
I would have died laughing at my phone if that bolt would have dropped inside the valve cover. Hey then you could have made a video on how to remove the valve cover😂 thanks for this video I just needed to know where they were so I can get this job done in 5 minutes instead of 30 trying to find it.
check engine light disappeared after about 50 miles driving.
Do you (or does anyone) know if both the Intake and Exhaust area take the same part??
I believe so but not 100% sure
You can also.
1.- Check Resistance on both solenoids. You will see a difference on the bad one. And you will be completely sure that the solenoid is the issue.
I have replace both intake n exhaust on my wife's 13 terrain.(same engine). Using the same test to verify the code
How do you check the resistance?
@@caarrll7117 with a multimeter set to omhs, probe both of the connectors at the top of the solenoid.
@@ecko1013able thanks! I’ll let ya know how it turns out tomorrow.
Do you need to disconnect the battery to change it?
It's always best practice to disconnect battery but I dont always do it. Disconnecting the battery will most likely also clear the code so that may be a benefit as well if you dont have a code scanner
I will too!!!
Both of my camshsft sensors have been changed..and the code P0010 p0011 still are popping up and it still cuts off...what could be the problem
Really hard to say without seeing it. Check oil filter, if it is really dirty, clogged or damaged would cause a lack of oil flow and may cause these codes. Also check oil level and maybe an oil change to get fresh oil in the vehicle may help.
Most likely the electrical wiring to your sensors i had this problem as well
On that vehicle you would need to have a diagnostic done and not just the codes retrieved (it would save money and time instead of guessing)These days you could have a check engine light on or something like the transmission slipping and the fix would be a dealer software update to the engine computer. With those two codes the most common things that I have seen are the intake and exhaust camshaft actuators, the engine computer, or engine oil problems such as low oil level, and the lack of getting the oil changed on time which builds up sludge in the engine. Your vehicle uses 5w-30 Full Synthetic engine oil. I'm an Honda/Acura Certified Technician, and I'm ASE Certified, and a shop owner.
Did the check engine light come off immediately? I have the same code and replaced the same part but check engine light didn't come off.
you would need to reset it with a code scanner (can sometimes get an auto parts store to do it) or it should eventually go out after driving it for a while. Another option is to unhook the batteries for about 30 minutes until the pcm/ecu is reset
Will this cause your car not. Drive once in gear my car only goes in reverse
That sounds more like a transmission issue that the soleinoid
This is the Crankshaft position sensor. Not the Camshaft position sensor.
You almost lost that bolt down into your engine block when you took the old one out! Be sure everyone to be careful not to let the bolt fall into the hole when pulling it out. That would be costly!!!!
Great video though. I just did it on my ‘14 GMC Terrain p0011 code and it cleared the check engine light after 15 miles driving.
You can just use a magnet wand if it does get lost down in the case. No biggie
Mine fell in lol...used a magnet
Always use the AC delco oem ones because aftermarket ones sucks
What were the symptoms of that car?
Just had a code for oil Intake or something like that.
I used a spark boot puller to get mine out, if that helps anyone.
I am trying to replace this solenoid and accidentally broke the connector on top. Any idea what the part number is and where to get it?
I do not know the part number but either look on gmparts online or your local dealer can help find part number, nothing says you have to buy it from them
Did you put it in wrong?.
I dont think i put it in wrong as the issue was fixed and car has been working fine for last several years.
Who's thumbing this down? A-hole mechanics that would rip you off?
Number one you have to know what you working on first its not an Impala LOL it's a equinox.
He said Chevy impala
your voice made me quit smoking 😫
Hey if my sensor keeps going out twice in one month do you know what else it could be ???
could be a bad sensor out of the box or very contaminated oil. but also could be an electrical short in the harness
