- Farideh is whipping up a snack you shouldn’t only eat during football season: Frito Pie. This uniquely American dish isn’t a pie, but instead a bag of corn chips topped with chili and fixings like shredded cheese, sour cream, and jalapenos. Farideh’s recipe is for her favorite beef and bean chili that’s packed with flavor from green chilies, Mexican oregano, and a splash of beer. Normalize chili and enjoy this “pie” any time! I grew up in Texas. Mom made Frito pie like this: In a baking dish, layer with large Fritos. Cover said Fritos with canned Wolf Brand chili with beans. Then layer with sharp cheddar cheese and onions. Then repeat. Bake at 400 till done.
THIS IS THE CORRECT METHOD
Lubbock, Texan here saying"Wolf Brand all the way" (maybe add some ground beef to the Wolf Brand). We liked it meaty.
Fuck yes! Born and bred Texan. 😁
Was your mom peggy hill?
Hank Hill is that you ???😊
I grew up in Laredo, Texas and was introduced to the Frito Pie in elementary school. There was a lunch cart on the playground and you could get a Frito Pie for lunch. It was a simpler time.
What a wonderful childhood.
No way I’m from Laredo, TX too. Never thought I’d run into another laredoan on the channel
Yup i had frito pie all the time in grade school and I am from the Dallas/Ft Worth area of Texas. It's very common throughout the state lol.
Cutting the bag down the middle seems insane to me lol
Ikr, like, less mess to open the top, tho points for being a savage, adds to the zany nature
Every time I've had this, the bag is cut down the side. It's wider and more shallow that way, so it's easier to get the fork to the bottom without getting chili and cheese all over your hands.
Wait till you hear about a top-split hot dog bun.
@@JoshuaGrotheer stop split buns are the cats pajamas
As a kid in NM, I used to get this from a little mom-n-pop store next to the school when I was in 3rd or 4th grade. Same place we got candy cigarettes. Yeah, it was a few years (or decades) ago.
In my family, growing up, we would put the Fritos on a big plate, light smash them, then Layer the chili and shredded lettuce, onion, tomatoes, cheese. It looked like a pie :). And naturally - for no logical reason - we called it “mock enchiladas”. -_-
That has to be the fattest, fat person activity that I have ever heard of.
@@jonathan0o0dawKins you’re classy. Thanks for that, bruh.
I mean at least the weird moniker had the word "mock" in it.
Im a simple man, whenever I see Farideh, I press Like.
Hah. Thought I read simp at first.
Me too 👍👍
In the hoods of LA we have Chili cheese fritos from ice cream trucks. If you know you know 👌🏽🔥
Ugh this episode makes me so happy. Everyone thinks I’m crazy when I talk about TX frito pie..but then I make it and change their lives👏🏻😂
Farideh is the best
I've been eating frito pie for at least 65 years, and cooking it for almost that long. It wasn't origionally made in a bag of fritos but in a casserole or pie plate with chile and onions and cheese layered with fritos. I don't know when making it in the single serving bag of fritos started but I remember eating one at a high school football game in Houston, TX in the late 1960's. It's one of the first things my mom taught me to cook, using Wolf brand chile, which is perfectly alright in Texas.
It's called a "Walking Taco" in the midwest and we used to have them at any kids sporting event with concessions. Why did you open the bag like that lol
It's how it's done in Texas. It's for presentation as well as practicality on account of the fact you can get the last bit without having to hit your knuckles and wrist dirty reaching for the last bit of the bag
@@Grubdissimo that is not how it's done in South Texas. we open them from the long side across
@@connyc23 like she did in the video? Because that's how it's done are you saying you go width wise?
@@Grubdissimo oh no, I meant from the side, the part that creases
@@connyc23 oh yeah? Never seen that. But it stands to reason
Love the mom jeans and shirt. Perfect chilli cooking attire :).
Literally went and got some wine for this vid and cheered out loud when this angel said Sicily. I'm one of the gang yay.
Walking tacos with chili cheese fritos brings me back to watching Friday night football games in middle school
The only marriage advice my mom ever gave me was if I was out all day throw some olive oil, garlic and onion in a pan right before your husband gets home. He'll smell that and think you've been cooking all day. Her advice never failed.
In Mexico they slice the bag on the side instead of the middle, so you don’t spill too much of the contents.
Ah yea. The south Texas speciality. Share it with the world, Ma’am!
Farideh: Sicily
Me: It's 9:00am.
Also Me: *drinks*
Texas chili doesn’t have beans.
but back in the day, chili in texas was always served with a side of beans. get some fiber in your diet.
I do like beans. The whole recipe looks great. I guess it’s Chili with beans. That’s the difference.
It's just regular chili
Farideh is like the anti Claire Saffitz. While Claire is charmingly neurotic, Farideh is so free and fun

Isn't she trans?
@@Scho-penhauer no
IMO you want Claire cooking if you're trying to have a fancy date night dinner, but Farideh for when the boys are over to watch the game.
"Tacos in a bag" were a fan favorite for high school youth group.
You must be from Minnesota 😂
Walking taco
we do "Taco's in a bag" when camping and use Dorito's for the chips, all you need to "cook" is the meat super easy.
I'm fighting between watching Josh Weissman or Munchies... OMDS, Munchies first!
I learned how to make Frito pie when I took Home economics in junior high (7th grade, 1977) but when I learned how to make it we used Hormel chili (because of time restraints of the class) but when I made it for my mom I’d found a homemade chili recipe and used that but when I make it now I put mine in a casserole dish, my mom fell in love with it, it became a go to dish for my large family! I’ve been making it ever since and my daughters love it and they make it for their families!! Thanks for sharing your recipe!
Shoutout to N.M.. a little recognition for us 👏🏽 we love our chili 🌶
TEXAS IS MAD AT YA. Chilli and beans? Come on moonpie, ya can’t do that..
Exactly
I specifically came to the comments with popcorn to see the hate. :)
This is not a dish from Texas. New Mexico baby.
I swear to god Indian and Mexican food have so much overlap. That’s a hybrid I need in my life.
That's my Girl....in the dream world anyway
Love you Farideh!!
My sentiment exactly! Farideh! Your name sounds like Faraday because you are hot 🔥!

A recipe for the inmate's. We appreciate the hospitality. Thank you. Stay safe and God bless
Yes, but in a Doritos Spicy Sweet Chili bag...trust me.
Dayummm good idea 💯💯🔥🔥
I regret eating frito pie for lunch every day my senior year of high school. But delicious. Absolutely delicious.
I used to watch this show for food, but for some reason it's mainly for Farideh now.
She is charming.
Why is she so perfect
Looks good. But I'm sure it's not as good as Peggy Hill's.
This a special dish we only eat when we go camping it tastes so much better after a long day of hiking
Always love a dish that looks the same coming in as it does coming out.
Fun video, I love frito pie!!! Especially when served in the bag- would do this when camping. I myself enjoy a fun recipe!!
This has always been called a Walking Taco for me
Tostilocos never "Dorilocos", Tostitos green bag chips, cueritos, Japanese peanuts, chopped jicama and cucumbers plus lemon juice, chamoy, hot sauce and spicy tamarindo candys
Growing up this was probably the best thing our schools served for lunches.
Why is it taking so "long" for someone to "give" this "beauty" her own "show"?
Bonus points for the Bourdain reference
Such a great way to present that food item! Thanks
Q: Why is Baseball America's pastime? A: Because it "passes the time" until Football.
It's colloquially referred to as a walking taco
This will always bring me bk 2little league football n baseball games n always having 1of these after my game...sometimes b4 lol
She makes a good point about seasonings in our cupboards for years. I watched a video by a chef who said if you can no longer smell it, it's probably lost its flavor too
First time viewer, just caught this looking for an out of the ordinary recipe for frito pie.
You were so great with the way you kept engaging as if we were there.
You really need your own channel!
I am serious as diahrea with a 100 yard walk to the porta potty.
Getting real feels reading the comments knowing I'm not alone in my love of frito/dorito pies.
Everyone knows it was invented in L.A. county jail.
You're thinking of a spread... totally different.
Chili cheese Fritos
That shit from Texas
Definitely Texas!
Texas
Ugh love your video!!! I been researching for a decent recipe forever!!! Thank you for this!!! This **** also made my day!!! 😭😄😃👏👏👏
Never seen the bag thing. Any time I saw it as a kid, in the '70's it was in a casserole dish, or a pie tin. So Frito pie made sense.
she just casually loans a guy 5k and he doesn't pay her back so she steals a spoon.
OK.
This reminds me after the club drunk foods at 2:30am brings back memories.🤤👍
A trick of my grandma's: (whom I never met, but love the lore) used to throw butter, onions ,whatever herbs were in the garden into a hot pan when she didn't have dinner started by the time my grandpa got home and it always smelled so good he never knew the difference lol
I have had Frito Pie (the way it has always been made in Texas) and when I grew up in Colorado, I would do green chili (pork chili verde) and pour a ladle worth on some Fritos 🙌 😋 👍 😎 and add some shredded cheese plus a couple of flour tortillas for good measure.
Actually you could buy a bag, large or medium, of Frito's at the grocery store in the 1950's and the recipe was included on the back side of the bag.. Mom did indeed use the recipe and baked it in the oven with Frito's on the top with the cheese, which is why I don't see any recipe using the old method. I guess some sixty years have changed the way of cooking Frito pie.
frito pies remind me of friday night high school football games🥺
Before Fritos….wouldn’t this have been called “Nachos?”
Love it either way, and the bag warms up your hands at a football game!
One of the best creations hands down. 👍
Omg. That picture of old bay 😆😆😆
Oh no I agree 💯 that EVOO butter and onion smells heavenly
I spent three months in jail for child support in Barron Wisconsin. Every other Monday was Frito Pie. I use to play spades for trays. Have about 5 Frito Pies.
Love the Old Bay art
I don't really care about Frito pie of just watching for Farideh
back in the day in middle school here in Southern Cali after school in the mid 90's we use to go to 7-eleven an buy the frito chips an snapple, we never called it a pie but we did call it "chili cheese fritos" & while the cashier was ringing up customers we use to sneak an use their nacho machine an pump the chili & nacho cheese in the bag an run out so they couldn't charge us for it,, good times, we were kids who knew how to come up, lol
Farideh your drop dead gorgeous. Love watching you.👍
I'm in the north of England at the moment, so.... SICILEH!
SI-SE-LEHHHHHH
Sicily
What is the sicily reference?
kbland10 you drink every time she say it 🥂
I love Farideh!
I find it easier to just cut the one side & fix it that way less mess & spillage! And you can put more topping's that way just FYI if you haven't tried it that way!! Your chilli looked delicious by the way yummy!🤤😁
We call that a pepper belly. It's even better with Hot Vienna bbq corn chips.
Beans?
My Texas friends here say Frito Pie has to be made with Wolf Brand chili. Well, Wolf Brand is no longer made in Texas. It's made by a big conglomerate. Which means that is probably made in NEW YORK CITY. 😋
Munchies ❤
FRITO PIE belongs to the best country in the world: TEXAS
This Jail Food😋
When she was adding the beer to the chili and also chugging a glass, it was sexy AF !!!! Hell yeah Farideh ! Also, why no Nutrition facts ? :P
i think she is very attractive. Oh crap you cant say that anymore.
"Normalize Frito Pie" are the three greatest words in the English language.
In middle school once a week they'd sell something like this. It was a bag of Fritos + taco meat + nacho cheese (the nuclear orange plastic kind which is delicious) + a dollop of sour cream. I think they were called Traveling Tacos and cost like $1.75
Only here for Farideh!!!
Serious inquiry: Are you Carla's daughter from Bon Appétit? 🤣❤💯
Good shout out to New Mexico! Texas “you a lie!” Lol
I had a roommate that would ask “what are you cooking, it smells so good” and every time it was just garlic and onions
She's great! Great food and great personality.
Farideh for Pres #normalizechili
🇨🇦🇵🇰 Hello from the other side
In Cali, we call that a Frito boat.
Farideh been watching Kali muscle
You already know, homie.
See sometimes I am skeptical of UA-cam cooks .... but legit I’m ready to pull up i need a few pots of that chili
Great video im from texas and a really good edition ingredient one of my favorite secret is a to pour some red enchilada sauce in it it really elevates the whole dish!
Hell yeah snackin beers!!!
Fritos, (forgotten condiment), chili, toppings, in that order. I’m from north Texas, guess the forgotten.
a favorite in Missouri
A topping of Mexican style pickled carrots balance out the richness from the chili and chips
Love good bowl of chili.
*Correction, dudes in prison invented this recipe lol
Is farideh a Northern Exposure fan? Sicily!
my secret ingredient: powdered beef bullion
Never seen this before. Its looks good, but why the chip bag?! Should check with to Larry Lawton lol.
Farideh, stealing spoons and our hearts.
