I’m so thankful I came across this video, I’m starting on my journey of “selling SEO” and realized I have no idea what the hell im selling. Hey Mike, I love that phrase "Stop selling features and start selling futures". I also thought your advice for beginners on how to craft a service around what you love doing and then identifying people who need that the most was gold. Great video and (I think) hit a really sweet balance between detail and breadth. Thanks for sharing your insights and advice.

Thanks for this Mike. I'm inspired to create a video for my clients that shows the high level steps of our branding/web design service. Hopefully they see it and see a) I know what I'm talking about and b) it's bloody too much work to hire an amateur or DIY. BTW, I have a printout on my wall now that says "Sell Futures, Not Features". I keep forgetting that on my sales calls :)

I have been working hard to have a good understanding of features and functions of the different efforts that make up SEO. How would you approach SEO for a client who:
a) seems apathetic about the idea of creating content
b) won’t hire anyone else to create content
This is after several years of working with the client on other objectives and multiple conversations I’ve initiated around creating “brand authority”.
I don’t see them as a good fit for selling SEO services.
Drop them. I'd rather work with people who want to do the work. Take the pay cut and use that time to find clients who want to do the work. There's nothing you can do about it
