@Great White Cat He was shot in the head in a club over a dispute about a game of pool, was ridiculous in all honesty the guy that done it basically got away with it as self defence as well because he claimed proof shot him first, which everyone denies but proofs level of alcohol in his body didn't help the situation he was heavily intoxicated which played in the killers favour.
Eminem was asked in an interview who the best freestyler is (in his opinion of course). He said Proof. He said that Proof could just go on and on with bars off the top of his head. What Eminem learned about freestyling, was taught to him by Proof. This video is a good example of just how great of a freestyler Proof was.

This video shows not only just how talented each member of D12 really is..... but also how close to each other as simple friends who enjoy hanging out together and just having a good time no matter what they are doing.
Re-watch the video again and just focus on how much Em and Biz are cracking each other up over the simplest of things. A toss away line, a glance, a soft 'ribbing' with the elbow. At one point you can clearly see Em's entire focus on "rapping' evaporate and he just wants to see if he can get Biz to lose it too. (meaning he wants to see if he can get Biz to crack up laughing as much as Em is).
And then look at the others around them. Proof and the others start to slowly lose focus on rapping as well because you can see it in their eyes that they just want to jump into the fun of hanging out with your best friends and being free to enjoy life for a few more minutes.
You really get the feeling that with D12, the 'rapping' was truly secondary to the bonds of friendship and family that they had formed with each other due to their individual struggles at home and on the streets. It just goes to show the power of "love" for someone can really save their lives.
