The fact that I genuinely care about this video gives me a strong indication my decision to "Look around for some reviews before buying a pen" has gone *way too far*.
It's interesting how after learning to love and respect the content you put out over time that it is that much easier for me to actually find this interesting, with other content creators I find it incredibly difficult to care about their lives but I enjoyed this immensely, hope you do more!
Loved the day with you! My Dutch-born wife and I were in Leiden in 2012, visiting an aunt of hers who lives in Hugo de Vriesstraat. We loved stopping at Voor af en Toe on the Botermarkt for a coffee. It was a fun visit and we enjoyed exploring Leiden's city centre.
Hahaha .. "cape cod". Awesome. Thanks for sharing your day. Beautiful city, and I wish I could just walk to work as well. My city is not made for walking (in U.S.).
Interesting... Nice to see more of your town. I've been watching your videos for years and never knew you lived in Leiden. An old friend of my ex-husband became a Dutch citizen and lives in Leiden. Next time we visit I'll give your workplace a nod and a smile. (yes, my ex and I are still close). Lovely singing too.
That was very interesting - thanks for sharing! My 16 yo grand daughter met a boy online from somewhere outside of Amsterdam and he was here (California) for two weeks in July. Very nice young man. Her first boy friend.
I've always wonderd what's outside the room you film your vids in! Thank you for showing us around Leiden! Lovely city! I would've love to see you cooking the stir fry ;-)
Very enjoyable and a fun change! Leiden looks to be a beautiful city. The Netherlands is high on our list of "next places to visit" and Leiden will have to be fitted in now!
I really enjoyed this one, thanks Stephen! It would be nice to visit Leiden at some point, it looks much nicer than the place where I live. Interestingly enough, there were no many fountain pens in your typical day.
Wow! did not know you were in Leiden! I am planning on living there for a year when my husband retires in a few years. We were there about 10 years ago and I just fell in love with it! Small world.
Thanks for the tour! I am so jealous of your location. I am an assistant professor in the US (1 year left before the big decision) and I'm amazed at your youtube productivity. How do you balance both your professional career and this hobby? Keep up the good work!
Thanks! It was nice to get a snapshot of the world you live in, and know you have a life outside of the world of fountain pens. If you like that type of Chinese clever (as I do) you might want to check out a Japanese Hocho. It is the same concept but a little smaller. It is my favourite blade.
Awesome Video "Dr. S. Brown". Very Cool to see what it's like where you live & Work plus the Architecture & Canals. Also the Food looks really Nice, very similar to England. I also liked the sneaky Fountain pen at the end you crept in Keep up the great work. Nick.
I think this is a worthy project, Dr. Brown..would love to see more of this kind of thing. Personally, I'd love to know more about Leiden; seems like a progressive, walkable place..rich in culture. Are there others madly writing away at great thoughts into rivers of Noodler's whatever, onto reams of amazing paper, drinking you-can't-believe-how-good-it-is coffee, eating things perhaps unpronounceable by Americans, crumbly, sweet or maybe savory? Thank you for your efforts.
I see you have ventured into the world of vlogging. Personally, I enjoyed it and would like to see more. Maybe a day out on the weekend or something like that.
Interesting. Funny, (not saying this is the case here as you seem proud of your lovely town), but "familiarity can breed contempt". By this I mean, I too have beauty in my town, but I often don't really appreciate enough. Thanks for the mini tour.
I've been to the Netherlands twice already, and even though I went to a different city (Beek) it still feels familiar. Makes me miss those lovely places and lovely people. Without a doubt my favorite country in Europe so far. Perhaps I should investigate if that University you work for needs and/or accepts Biologists from Brazil. :)
That was fun! Brings back memories of the Pieter de la Court building when I studied Political Science there. Totally forgot about those nets but I remember the depressing toilets in the corners.
I really appreciate your plug for walking. Sadly, in the U.S. walking is not an option for many -- and seldom used. I make it a point to log ~ 8 miles/day during the work week (more on weekends). The benefits are bountiful! BTW, jealous of your life in the Netherlands.
mwrkhan Delft is a very beautiful old city, too. And Gouda, where I live, also. So many tourists just visit Amsterdam. Amsterdam sighs under the weight of all the tourists, and there is so much more (and better) to see!
Wow, I really enjoyed this! I try to walk after work and on my lunch break and as much as possible on the weekends. It's just a good way to clear out your brain and get rid of any stress that you might have. Woohoo, vertigo on the stairwell shots! And you have a nice singing voice! In the States we call the sauce that comes with fish "tarter sauce" and it's usually just mayonnaise with sweet pickles in it - sounds revolting, I know, but it's not bad. I like it on hushpuppies myself (little cornbread type balls that are served with fried fish) Love the image of the churches and the power windmills...here in the STates people get so possessive of their views that we fight to have wind power, but I think they're rather elegant and amazing feats of engingeering. I hope you'll keep vlogging - tell Azizah I said hi :)
nice singing voice! As for the fish, we in the "states", call that fish and chips, ( with tarter sauce: made with mayo and green sweet relish), a new england Massachusetts-CapeCod ish, specialty. Those canals would be beautiful to draw!
Very enjoyable. "Suicide Nets" ..great name for a band. With all that walking, you could be a Pokemon Go Pro. If you hold the camera up more even with your face, the bright sky above you won't darken your face as much. (unless that's the effect you are going for). Cool city!
Interesting. I don't know much about the Netherlands aside from Van Der Valk. I think I'm a little jealous of your canals. But, the suicide net was...interesting? But, overall, an interesting insight into a part of the world I've never visited.
That view of the canal in the city was cool, and looked like a perfect scene for a water color or oil painting. Well, except for the cars; they looked really out place, like they were parked on the side walk. I'd love to live somewhere like that where I didn't need an automobile, as the costs can be so high.
That was fun. Fish & Chips in the United States (which I love), but you guys skip the fries. Fun to see the differences. I can't imagine roadways in the States with canals two feet from the car with no guard rails. You guys like to live on the edge ;-) You could have filmed "The Last Man On Earth" at work - was anyone else in the building or did I miss something ;-) I'll stop talking now...
Absolutely wonderful video!! :-) You live in what must be the loveliest place on earth. I'll ask a really silly question; apologies if someone has already asked: The Netherlands is said to be one of the most bicycle friendly countries in the world; have you considered getting a bike and riding to work? If that were possible where I live (in the USA) I'd get a lot more exercise than I usually do. :-) Thank you for sharing this great video Stephen!
You may have skipped recording your work because its private, if so I respect that. However if your up for it and if this happens again, I'd love just to see your work space and an overview of what you do, I'm visualizing many notebooks inside of which look like a rainbow.
thank you for sharing a day of ur life ; it was very friendly move...nice video log...can u please share a clip for your office desk and room if it is allowed.
Stephen, I hear all the time how the paper in the US is cheap and the paper in Europe and other places is higher quality. I think this would be a great question for your next consult the doctor video. That is because it is intertwined with another question, what is the prevalence of fountain pens in Europe, because presumably only with a fountain pen do you benefit from high quality paper. So delve into that subject matter as deep as you'd like, but basically how common are fountain pens and high quality paper in your neck of the woods?
BTW, I also conduct social science research and have recently begun writing my papers/articles with fountain pens first. For some reason it seems I can better engage the subject matter that way. I'm certain why that's the case. Then I type it all up. I also have I colleague who, when we went to grad school together, did precisely that. He said he couldn't think properly, or something, when writing his stuff up in MS Word. Do you ever do this?
Beautiful town. And to top it off,you live within easy walking distance. I've noticed that your name plate is the only one written in longhand. Remain true to the cause. ;-). .
c. 6:00 "First I'll talk you through the parts of the fish, tell you what I like it, what I don't like about it, and then I'll do an eating sample."
lol.
Hilarious!
The fact that I genuinely care about this video gives me a strong indication my decision to "Look around for some reviews before buying a pen" has gone *way too far*.
You want some insight into the reviewer, reviewing the pen you want
UA-cam comments at its best!
Stephen, Thank you for sharing a little bit about yourself outside of the pen hobby! A very interesting peak at your day - would love to see more!
It's interesting how after learning to love and respect the content you put out over time that it is that much easier for me to actually find this interesting, with other content creators I find it incredibly difficult to care about their lives but I enjoyed this immensely, hope you do more!

I had cod for dinner...I know what I'm having tomorrow night now too...thanks. Cool video to see your surroundings. LOVE the architecture!!!
Thank you! It was fun watching you going through your day.
Hahaha .. "cape cod". Awesome. Thanks for sharing your day. Beautiful city, and I wish I could just walk to work as well. My city is not made for walking (in U.S.).

That was lovely. I've only been to Amsterdam, so it was nice to see another part of the Netherlands.
I enjoyed this video. I hope you do more in the future. Keep up the great videos.
loved the video stephen, thank you for sharing a part of your life with someone who has followed a part of it for some time now, Jude

Dank je!
I enjoy the little snippets of history and seeing the landscape in your area. Hope to see more of these videos, if you will make more of them!
So interesting to see where you work and a bit of your city!
I loved this video :) I rarely ever watch a blog, but I greatly enjoyed this one :)
It was really nice to go for a walk with you and see your beautiful city. You have a lovely singing voice - were / are you in a choir?
I really enjoyed this one, thanks Stephen! It would be nice to visit Leiden at some point, it looks much nicer than the place where I live.
Interestingly enough, there were no many fountain pens in your typical day.
Wow! did not know you were in Leiden! I am planning on living there for a year when my husband retires in a few years. We were there about 10 years ago and I just fell in love with it! Small world.
Ik heb genoten van je mooie zonnige wandelingen.
Thanks for the tour! I am so jealous of your location. I am an assistant professor in the US (1 year left before the big decision) and I'm amazed at your youtube productivity. How do you balance both your professional career and this hobby? Keep up the good work!
I have to make time for the hobby. But I think you have to, to stay sane :-).
agreed :) Good luck on the paper. Writing "should" be fun, but for some reason when trying to communicate to our colleagues it seems like a pain
.
Thanks! It was nice to get a snapshot of the world you live in, and know you have a life outside of the world of fountain pens. If you like that type of Chinese clever (as I do) you might want to check out a Japanese Hocho. It is the same concept but a little smaller. It is my favourite blade.

So nice and quiet :) I admire your working hours too lol. Leaving at 9 and coming home with daylight... Heaven :)
Beautiful city. Thanks for taking us there.

leuk om leiden te zien en leuk dat je een keer een vlog hebt gemaakt.
Beautiful place you r living in ! I only visited Netherland once.. I wish i have another chance
Loved this video. Great seeing some sights and some of the history. Thanks.
Thanks for sharing! Looks like a lovely place to live and work!
I think it's awesome you shared a day in the life. The Netherlands are very interesting.
Always wanted to visit the Netherlands. My late father studied engineering at Delft University many years ago.
mwrkhan Delft is a very beautiful old city, too. And Gouda, where I live, also. So many tourists just visit Amsterdam. Amsterdam sighs under the weight of all the tourists, and there is so much more (and better) to see!

I agree to continue to do vlogs. It is intresting to know other aspects of your life. Thank you doctor.
fantastic ! please continue to vlog !!!

Very nice idea to make this blog. I enjoyed it.
Bonita ciudad. Gracias por permitirme conocer algo de ella. Pescado, que bueno.
Saludos desde Medellín, Colombia, Suramerica.
In paradisum deducant te angeli...
Beautiful architecture, thanks for sharing!

How fascinating to finally see the city for which the Factor V Leiden genetic mutation was named!
This is wonderful. Would you consider doing one of your life in Canada. Like you, I do not own a car, so walk or take bus. Thank you
More vlogs please! 🎈❣️
what a lovely place to live and work. God bless.
Looks delicious. Great bit of a fun video!
Absolutely wonderful video!! :-) You live in what must be the loveliest place on earth. It is, and I do have a bike. I just prefer walking :-).
Quite understandable, especially given how beautiful your city is. :-) Have a good weekend!
Sorry to point out but i thought you live in Canada, in-fact Calgary/Edmonton have heard you mention before.
Such a beautiful place!

I really think you should have done "what do I like about it, what do I not like about it" for the lunch :-D
Loved it! Thanks.
Now this is something new yay :3
Living in Canada now I believe, do you miss the Netherlands?
I come from the United States of America to tell you that isn't a lunch, that's a light snack. I would have ordered 3 of those.
I mean, that's America for you. No wonder we're all so fat.
Love the video! Very interesting.
1'55 : What did you say ??? Soon you're gonna be follicle deficient ??? Mwouahahahaha !!!
ypu are a card very funnie Dr Brown I enjou your reviews and storys thankyou

That Knife at the end there looked pretty sharp, do you sharpen it yourself?
Caped cod was actually pretty good ;-)
Is there any difference between kibbeling and something like fish and chips (without the chips), besides the seasoning?
I think the crust on "Fish & Chips"-fish is a bit crispier.
are there fish in the canals?
please review the pen's shop in UK
This was great! What a quaint city. :-)
BTW, I also conduct social science research and have recently begun writing my papers/articles with fountain pens first. For some reason it seems I can better engage the subject matter that way. I do the exact same thing!
There is some evidence; I once wrote a blog on that: www.leidenpsychologyblog.nl/articles/why-we-are-doomed-when-handwriting-disappears
That was great, it was a really interesting video!
haha, well done:) i live in eindhoven, there is absolutely no canal here:(
There is the canal that goes to Helmond
+Cesar Canassa haha, yes:)
I enjoy your lack of sarcasm
Beautiful town. And to top it off,you live within easy walking distance. I've noticed that your name plate is the only one written in longhand. Remain true to the cause. ;-). .
Great video!
Suicide nets that's weird where I live they would probably encourage jumping!.That fish at lunch looked amazing Thanks for sharing
you should make these more
Beautiful architecture
And now, tree number 1, the Larch. And now, number 3, the Larch.
Spank that beef! A very interesting and perhaps voyeuristic journey through Dr. SBRE Brown's world. Lovely singing voice, I feel all spiritualized.
What ink is that on your office name plate? Is it Akkerman Chinatown?
No, it was a pink but I forgot which one
Walking is nice just don't get mugged, just walk in day light. Walk at night only if you carry, an carry a .45 cal because shooting twice is silly.
Louis Leoncini We don't feel the need to carry firearms.
OK DOC., HAVE A GREAT WEEK. PS I do like your reviews.
He doesn't need a pistol, he has a .45 cal meat cleaver !! Yikes !!
'Merica!
I dont watch usually "vlogs" but I enjoyed your video
where are your friends?
Suicide nets. Cape Cod. Egad. Thank you, Stephen, for this descent into the dark abyss of the Nether Lands.
Great video Stephen although I`m not sure how Lord Windamere would feel were he to know that you eat his fishy cousins twice a day...:)
