I never understand why main stream artist have to conform to the alledged music industry formula it is so boring intro, verse, chorus, middle eight, verse chorus, outro that is so boring change it up as Bandmaid does. You may have also noticed on most of their songs they change something in each verse chorus etc. They are never the same. This is an amazing song as they have just put 2 fingers up to the music industry rules and they just do Bandmaid things the Bandmaid way
Band-Maid is head and shoulders above everyone else. Their music is so complex, and they are so tight and professional. Kanami is the best composer of our time. Forbidden Tale is an epic composition really showcasing their talent and writing prowess.
Yeah, a crazy world we live in when a track this fantastic has only 900k views after 3 months and so much recycled pop music has millions within minutes of release. A terrible shame more people aren’t aware of truly great rock music like this. Nuts.
A bit over 4.30 minutes. And crammed full with beautiful, sparkling moments. This is (hard-) rock at the peak of perfection. But then - : we're talking about Band-Maid, so we knew that something outstanding was about to happen. These ladies never let us down. Unique band.
In an interview Saiki talked about the lyrics she wrote for this song. Short version. She was looking at music history, found songs and stories that had been forbidden but were now being recreated using new tech. Found inspiration from them and then wondered if long after she is gone if people will also be inspired by their music. Take the lyrics as being about connecting with someone from the past through their art and also connecting through your own art with someone in the future.
The lyrics are very deep. Kanami lost someone very close to her this year and she especially thought about her own life, what it meant to her to be alive and her purpose. Her close friendship with Saiki inspired Saiki to write these lyrics.
Chris and Sam, good seeing you again. Thanks for reacting to Band-Maid "Forbidden Tale". I do have another Band-Maid song I hope you react to. The song is on UA-cam and listed as BAND-MAID "Honkai" SPIN-OFF. It's a live version of the song from their spin-off concert after the 10th Anniversary Tour finale. If you love MISA's bass, you will lose your mind over her and Akane's introduction to the song. I will simply call it "FUNKY HONKAI!".
Yes always an albums worth of ideas in every track. One of my songs of the year. About the people and music from the past being forever remembered and their hope to be remembered forever. A band that just gels so well from the vocals to the musicianship to the personality that comes over. I agree that Saiki who I think wrote the lyrics for this song. Her vocals just work so well with this sound. An epic song and an epic album from an epic band.
It's been a while. Welcome back to the Maids. Love this song, as it's a epic song from their brand new album "Epic Narratives". This one takes you on a epic journey though many genres...the jazz catches everyone off guard. And your reaction was golden. Kanami is rocking her brand new private stock PRS in this video. So now she has 4 guitars she can use in at their Okyu-ji. Her green PRS, the red 35th Anniversary "Angry Larry" PRS, her smoke yellow private stock PRS and now her smoke green signature PRS. I hope they do "The One" as an MV next...when they do, that would be my suggested video. PO! 🕊 🤘😆🤘
@@ericifune5543 yup...but I thought she brought out the old tried and true green too...but I guess not. I was all the way in the back on both nights. I think I had 1100 and something and 1200 and something. 😂😂😂 It'a sad that such a wonderful guitar will not get as much or any stage time now.
#Chris #Sam Obviously it's her second SIGNATURE MODEL for KANAMI. She starts her carrier with another brand ADDICTONE, the brand created a signature model for her an Addictone modern series 2H ( in 2 colors green or Red), several months later KANAMI borrow a PRS 24 from a member of the staff around the band for a MV. She felt in love at first try, so she switched to PRS at the disappointment to ADDICTONE GUITARS. Now KANAMI is a official artist praise by PRS. her own signature model was delivered by PAUL REED SMITH him self. Her model is PRS 24-08 Tampas green smokeburst. She's the 1st japonese artist ever who had this honor by PRS GUITARS. KANAMI is the only artist i know who had 2 signature model of guitar with 2 different brand before 35 years old.
Welcome back "Band-Maid Masters". What a track! Like you I am always lost for words. Not even Band-Maid could pack that much awesome into three and a half minutes. Yes. Jazz in a rock ballad. Band-Maid doing Band-Maid things
Thanks guys, always cool to get your takes. Like you say, they are definitely growing. Kanami is very structure-aware, but not afraid of experimenting with form. I used to think it was limited to "change up the 2nd verse" and "insert cool intro/bridge/outro", but really it's a lot more than that now.
Thanks gents, always love your analysis. Musicians provide a perspective that is required I think to really understand Band Maid. Their whole new album "Epic Narratives" is a wonderful body of work. Cheers, and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
Great reaction. This song is one of their most epic, in terms of lyrical ideas combined with the composition of the music. And I would argue, it is one of the most unique MV's they've done, in that the visual story perfectly compliments the song itself, and adds to it. Really the ideas are two parts - first, Kanami did the primary composition (as usual) and at the time was dealing with grief over losing a close relative. So she said she wanted to write a song that could represent all the experiences in one life. So you get that same melody being carried in different formats across different musical motifs. And like you said, it feels - lighter. Not happy, not sad, but with lightness and movement. At the same time, Saiki wrote the lyrics, and her explanation is that she was studying the history of story telling and song throughout history. And she came across the concept that some societies had 'banned' songs and stories in the past. But what is fascinating to her, that with modern technology and research, we can find those old stories and songs, and 'bring them back'. She thought how that was also like - meeting those original artists, from long ago, and giving their life and work meaning. So the one 'she met in the cherry blossoms', is that person because she was reading their story. (the little jazz section there, is the story itself). But then she thinks - if it works now, it will be the same far into the future. Someone, 'hundreds of years' from now, could discover Band--Maid, through their songs, and it may help them when they need it - 'Don't be sad, just say my name and we'll be there'. And then the last part of that, is she knows their music will carry forward through their fans. So in the middle she says 'let me hear your voice' - and then you get the sound of a audience yelling during a show. So Saiki put her ideas to Kanami's musical exploration of a life, and you get Forbidden Tale. And like I said, the MV adds to the whole concept - the shadow hand is the artist from the past, reaching to the future to connect. The part where the room goes red - that's the part where Saiki lets the artists decry what happened to them - 'how dare you take our story!'. But then the room suddenly turns back to normal, and we're back to our time. It's just such a lovely concept, matched with equally epic music. They are elevating their ability to convey ideas to their music, and that's amazing to me all these years later!
The songs already released earlier in the year are just Band-Maid awesomesauce! The six new songs are so tightly integrated and complex, it's going to take a Tokyo minute to assimilate. But I already love Forbidden Tale, and especially The One. 😉🤘 btw - We should all wish a "Good Luck" to Band-Maid's new self-run management company: Maidit, Co., LTD! Will they managing other bands, boost Cluppo and Maiko projects, or tour more internationally? Or maybe they will expand their business interest to other sectors of the music biz outside of Band-Maid. I believe Kanami wants to get more into composing, scoring and production. And as for Miku and Saiki, the sky's the limit for what they'll want to do in merch, fashion and art, etc.. The music and execution in Epic Narratives is sophisticated and delightfully listenable. But the lyrics and concepts they're based on catapult EN to epic levels. Thx, Chris & Sam ! 🤘🧑🎄🎀
I think that this is the first video of Kanami playing her new PRS "Tiger Stripped" yellow and black guitar. She got this shortly before her Signature model. Re vocalists, KOIAI does the same, with the clean angelic vocals of Kotono, cutting through the complex guitar driven arrangements.
They should be releasing a new song and video ("Zen") in a couple weeks or so. It will be the opening theme for a new anime (Zenshu) and that starts 1/5/25 so the video should release similarly.
I love Saiki, but for clean vocals, if I was putting together a supergroup and needed a female vocalist, I'm taking Yuko Suzuhana from Wagakki Band for rock and Fuki of Unlucky Morpheus for metal. I would be strongly tempted to take Jayoung from Rolling Quartz for rock as well.
Yep.....ANY other band would never use that many ideas in one song....Kanami is a genius
The lead singer has a wonderful voice. This song is a delicious mix of styles; great song.

I believe the inspiration for the lyrics came from a tragic loss in Kanami's family. I also believe Saiki wrote the lyrics.

During her recent shows in Haneda, she brought out the angry larry, the private stock, and her signature.

@@BRO-HI808 Who knows. But one great advantage of the signature is it's versatility. Might only travel with the one.

Yes, Saiki’s vocals are a perfect fit for Band Maid. and she’s pretty easy on the eyes too
Not bad for someone who was "tricked" into joining the band. Miku knew what she was doing when she scouted Saiki.
I love the proginess to their music. Beats the mainstream repetitive formula any day.

The jazz break is a Band-Maid signature move. I think the first instance was Brand New Road back on the Brand New Maid album.
Or doing a pseudo swing song in Rock in Me.
It's only shown for a split second, but u can see Akane switch to a jazz-style left hand grip in the jazzy section. Just WOW! ❤❤❤
Thanks for the reaction!
Great reaction as usual, gents, thanks for continuing to support the Maids, you rock! I hope your new music and sets go great!
A musical journey in one song! Band-Maid doing Band-Maid things!
Band-Maid finally made the 10 minute epic that people have been asking for, and in typical Band-Maid fashion, they made it five minutes long.
Well said lol.

Great to see Band-Maid, Thanks
Just picked up Misa's bass a few days ago shown in the video, things a beast.
If only we had the spare cash eh
@@philipcable437 It's not cheap but half of what a Fender would be, and they don't even make a Jaguar for some reason.
Masterful songwriting and storytelling 🔥❤️ For me..Best Song of the 2024.

Been to long boys, missed you and the Maids, Oh my God - yep you said it, this song live will fcken rule, what a band Po 👍🍻
