The happiest drummer on the planet and she's Jimmy Page certified😊 To cover this band you need a pretty big memory😂 She participates in songwriting and she reads sheet music as you pointed out. Please try Manners/Blackhole 2 in 1 live mv next! Thanks for sharing🤘
I think I remember her saying that she hand transcribes all of her music to help with memorization. With how much she changes up her patterns, the fact that they can keep like 50 songs in rotation (e.g. Yokohama Arena’s 33 and the spin off’s set that had very little overlap) is really impressive from a memory standpoint, alone.
@@DrumRoast Yes, there is a solo in Freedom, but it's a very old song, and she is at a totally different level today then what she was back then. She is amazing when it comes to back up and enhance the other instruments. I'm so much more impressed what she does during the bass/guitar duel in Hate (live) or just from start to finish in the MV Shambles, than in any solo.

ohh, you're now at the doorstep. thank you for checking out these ladies' kind of music. aesthetically, their bdu's have come a long way and are now a just a shade of the visuals from which they initially started and have evolved over the years -- 11 and counting. only miku's outfit [founder and main lyricist] has remained close to the maid concept. on first impressions, the fill beast's skill comes relatively not as insane as one might expect, but upon closer inspection you'll notice how her leg work and rhythm fills are so interestingly remarkable. she isn't a musician that chooses to stand out, but rather she lets her drum vocabulary contribute to their material. all five of them have this 'serve the song' mentality in their compositions. the lyric-writing, the vocal delivery [individuallly and/or harmonically], the unique bass lines, the drumwork, the black dots' structures - they're well-fitting cogs of a juggernaut that is band-maid music. 'warning' is a good introduction to the band-maid experience. you'll enjoy more when you check their live performances. if there will be a second serving, thenvwe welcome you to the 'pigeon' hole.
Akane is the tightest drummer I have ever seen and always plays what fits perfectly without trying to take over the song....until you hear the song Shambles !!!! I have seen them live and let me tell you she beats the hell out of her drums !!!!!!
As others have mentioned, she is called “The happiest drummer in the world” her nickname is “The Gorilla” for how hard she hits her drum kit. She burns so many calories every day she is constantly eating and yes, she eats bananas while on stage.
your banana reference reminded me of a new anime called Dandadan 😂😂😂 but yes she NEEDS that food with the energy she's putting out on stage for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Regarding the straws, she uses those so she can get a drink mid-song. During guitar solos, if she's thirsty she signals the lead singer who will then hold the bottle up for her while she takes a drink without missing a beat. Every band member interacts with the drummer onstage way more than any other band I've ever seen.
thanks for the info...I figured...my own fatass drinks water nonstop at my own shows and it's a pain to unscrew the water bottle LOL totally understood!!!
yes, check the Jimmy Page Akane picture. He saw the show in Japan and asked for a picture, allegedly Akane didn't belive it and eventually was convinced to come out and take the picture with the real Jimmy Page. No John Bonham comparisons have been found to be real. But Jimmy's support is.
Akane (aah-kah-neh) = the happiest drummer ever in one of the best and most diverse rock bands on the planet. You might want to check out some of her heavier kick drum work on No God or Rinne.
Although Akane can virtuoso with the best of them, Band-Maid is very much an ensemble unit with a lot of contrapuntal play. One thing you'll start to notice with Akane are the changes, interesting patterns, polyrhythms, etc. all designed to play off the other melodic lines. You see this especially in the more prog-directed songs like From Now On (MV), Go Easy, H-G-K, Black Hole, Get to the Top, et. al.
Other amazing Japanese female drummers: Tamu Murata - Nemophila, Chika - Hanabie, Cocoro - Nek! (Go Mavs 77) Also, check out the band Asterism, Brother duo bass/drums, and the best guitarist on the planet, Hal-ca

Tama Star Bubinga kit normally with Ludwig Black Beauty snare but occassionally uses others. Zildjian cymbals , Wincent 5B signature sticks, think she previously used 5A
Forget about the smile- which is beautiful. This woman's drumming is so f'n clean and technically brilliant. So many people always want to see hard fast drumming, but some of the most brilliant drumming with real feel is to be found on the slower, ballad type songs. She is drumming the way she wants, with 5A sticks. If she wanted a harder hit she could use 5B's. As it is, her kit has Tama Bubinga Shells, which are very loud anyway. Good reaction, although you didn't mention banana's Po! For another Japanese drummer try Kanade Sato of KOIAI. She has a Dave Wekl cover on youtube.
Check out "From Now On".... or "FREEDOM" LIVE. It's Ah-Kah-nee (Japanese usually pronounce every vowel) Akane hits HARD!!!! ....don;t let this performance fool you. Just wait for "FREEDOM" LIVE, this wasn't LIVE, but a LIVE studio stream, big difference. The straws are for in case they fall over they won't spray electronic components or water on to the floor, so since the other girls move around on stage a lot it's also a safety thing. Akane has a lot of digital electronics around her for backing tracks. No "Diva's in this group.
Ahh thanks for the clarification on the Live studio stream!!!! I'm used to using water bottles so I wasn't used to seeing straws. Which is actually smart now that I think about it because you don't have to twist open a water bottle which saves time, and she probably barely has any time between songs...as far as the diva thing I meant it as a playful joke but totally understood!!!
