NEVER apologize for playing back Band-Maid, we LOVE it! As a former drummer too, Akane has a really different wrist movement you'll see in some videos. I read she learned this wrist movement while in Tokyo School of Music. It's a very fluid movement, quite cool. I first noticed it in the official LIVE video of "Onset" (find it on their YT channel) when she rides the cymbal, once you see it you'll keep seeing it in other videos.
The Maids performing one of their (two) most performed songs: Freedom and Real Existence. The Maids in this MV are pure perfection, aren't they? I mean, what can you fault? And those faces... their attitude... their music... their playing... their story... and their joy! Band-Maid is a world treasure, imo! Thanks, Rynno, for bringing the world's best hard rock band to your viewers!
Rynno, you itemised many of the qualities of Band Maid that I really love. You see many heavy bands that barely raise a smile yet these ladies seem to have the time of their lives when on stage. Akane never stopped smiling all the way through that drum solo and Kanami was back and forth having fun with everyone. It was another enjoyable reaction from you. Thanks.
Watching that drum solo, look to the left of the stage and notice Miku and Kanami, hooting and hollering, clapping their hands, and pumping their fists. How many bands do you see other members cheering for each other doing a good job?? I haven't.
Rynno, every time you see or hear a Band-Maid song, you're impressed with their individual and collective talents. These women OWN any genre of music they choose to incorporate into their music. Rock, jazz, blues, funk, punk, pop, hell, even hip-hop and rap, they use it all. Hip-hop and rap, you ask? React to "Influencer", the official music video, to see what I mean.
Rynno mate! Greetings on a fine crisp day in Shizuoka with snow-capped Mount Fuji outside the window! This was actually the first song I had ever discovered from Band Maid. How lucky was I to start with that tune, seemingly simple and catchy, but actually extremely complex with not one but two solos out of this world at rums and guitar! No way I could escape from falling into the rabbit hole! How many time have I listened and watched that video? Hundreds of time? And I still get excited by it! About other bands. in my humble opinion here is an order I propose to discover them (Japanese if not mentioned otherwise): Asterism (metal and rock) The Warning (Mexican all-sisters rock band) Lovebites (rock) Nemophilia (rock) Hanabie (rock) Saiseiga (dark metal) Wagakki Band (rock mixed with Japanese traditional instruments) Baby Metal (Show metal) That is for a start! best regards, Robert-Gilles Martineau
Regarding the other bands you mentioned, LOVEBITES is epic metal in an 80s style, drawing a lot of comparisons to Iron Maiden, Helloween and Dragonforce, as well as having a new bassist who is about as smiley as Akane. BABYMETAL is a wholly unique thing that is completely unlike anything else you will ever see. They aren't a band in a conventional sense but are a vocal and dance troupe that is backed by an amazing metal band that plays just about every metal genre there is. They have a lot of detractors who just generally don't "get" their unique blend of metal and J-pop (they coined the term "Kawaii (or cute) Metal" for their style), and you really have to be able to think outside the box to truly appreciate them, but they are worth checking out. Also, since you brought up how much Akane likes to smile when she's playing, there is another band that you will probably appreciate, not only for also having elite level musicians, but also for both the bassist and drummer being constantly all smiles, especially in their early videos - Nemophila.
Great reaction Dude!!!! You get Band Maid. As well as being incredible musicians playing great music, thay are about having fun and giving the listener enjoyment first and foremost! I found your comment about the drum sticks quite illuminating. Glad to subscribe to your channel!
Cool that you caught Akane’s grip. I’m not a drummer, but I’ve been in a few bands and agree that I’ve never seen anyone choke up on their sticks that much. What’s weirder is she’s only doing this with her left hand? Her right is normal. Your observation that it might be for the flop for speed might be the winning answer!
Great rection Rynno,,Akane is a beast on the drums aint she,The MV for ,Shambles, off their new album is a must watch, just for Akane doing her thing,oh and the song is a certified banger,,you have my sub sir.
Baby Metal is a pop trio that sings and dances in front of a metal band. They have some pretty impressive stage shows and the music is good. Some people can't get past the girls not playing, but the band behind them is a legit awesome metal band. Lovebites is a power metal band with excellent dual guitarists and I know their drummer is friends with Akane from Band Maid. They go out to dinner together and are known for their appetites. You might also want to check out Nek! (pronounced neck-ee). They're new, have a fantastic bassist and have a sound similar to Band Maid. Listen to Maze or Get Over if you do.
I've seen BAND-MAID, Lovebites & Babymetal live, all awesome shows. I just happen to be a Maidiac for life is all, it's written in my "Sell my soul to BAND-MAID" contract :)
Miku messed up her lyrics for this part in a previous gig, so Kanami sat there and 'supervised' . Yes, Akane is the happiest drummer in the world, and why wouldn't she be, in this band. I know Akane had some back and shoulder problens early on so maybe the stick grip has something to do with that, but I dunno really. Not a drummer. Thanks for sticking with Band-Maid, I love to see you appreciate what they bring. 🎌🎸🥁🎤🎇
Thank you for reacting to BAND-MAID's songs. In particular, this song, "Freedom," is one that they always play at their live shows. Because it's the song that they feel the most united with the audience since their debut. They call the audience "master and princess," and call their live shows "take care of housework." I think their smiles are bursting with joy at providing their best music to the familiar audience that comes to their live shows after 10 years since their debut. If you are an audience member on their US tour, you will probably be able to hear this song live. They are dressed in maid costumes, but their playing technique is top-notch. Try reacting to this song once. It's an instrumental song, so you can enjoy their performance. Noteworthy points are how bass guitarist MISA smoothly switches between pick and slap playing, and lead guitarist KANAMI's finger tapping playing. ua-cam.com/video/eEiE3ND7JEc/v-deo.html Thank you.
It's absolutely worth checking out the other bands that have been mentioned. Baby Metal are an experience and put on fantastic shows, took me a while to really appreciate them but I'm in now. Lovebites are a blistering 5 piece metal band with twin lead guitars and again every one of them super talented and skilled. The other metal band I'd recommend is my favourite, Nemophila and goes without saying all super talented as well.
I agree about Lovebites and Nemophila. I can add Hanabie and Koiai too as great bands worth checking out. And as a Swede I have to mention Thundermother and The Gems. Two all female bands that write and play their own music, mostly hard rock.
The members making faces at Akane trying to get her to mess up is called Hengao; the Japanese art of funny faces. Akane is the best at it. If you watch the Official Live Puzzle MV, Akana gets Saiki to laugh when she’s supposed to be singing.
Well spotted on Akane's stick grip, it rarely gets pointed out. I'd love to hear Akane explain why she chokes up on the left hand stick, it's clearly a deliberate decision on her part. All I can think of is that it creates a fulcrum making her hits more bouncy - I'm not a drummer so this may be nonsense.
Yes, they have fun on especially this song. They could play it in their sleep...as it is the song that has made more setlist than any other song. They play the game hengao, which is a game of funny/strange/weird face to throw someone off of their task. Try as they might, Akane doesn't loose. You can see Akane giving the ladies a kiss of "good try" at 3:53 of this video. And Akane is the happiest drummer on Earth. It is rare to catch her without a smile on her face.😁 PO!🕊 🤘😆🤘 P.S. Repeat a section? No worries, we just get to hear the goods one more time!🤣🤣🤣
And as a drummer you might have also noticed Saiki first raising her fist up , which is usually a sign to the band for that LAST time around (usually the last choirs) and then again at the end Miku raising her hand for the song end. As I played for around 40 years we notice these things others might not. For me it's Band Maid over those other bands you mentioned as I don't like opera hair metal or a singing act with a backing band even thou they are very talented , but to each his own.
BabyMetal is a Label created Vehicle for SuMetal, Suzuka Nakamoto. She has two backing vocalists who she dances with and a band of hired gun Metal musicians backing them. The specialize in huge spectacle shows. They're in their twenties now so not exactly babies anymore. YuiMetal left the band due to heath reasons so they got a new girl. One of their lead guitarist Miki was killed when he fell off a building stargazing. And many other band members have been replaced. LOVEBITES is a Noodle Meister Show Off Band sort of like Aldious. They're good if you like that sort of thing, but they founder and bassist left the band and they replace her with Fami, the best Show Off Noodle Meister Bassist on the Internet. Unfortunately, they keep her on a leash so I don't know why they hired her. Probably so some other band didn't get her, the way a Label will give a band a contract, and then shelve their recordings, so they can't compete with their other bands. That Technician Stuff isn't really my thing, I just hate to see Fami not get to do her thing and be treated like a Junior after two years with the band. She deserves better.
Akane's stick grip has more than a little to do with the way traditional drummers (taiko) hold their sticks in Japan, something she probably learned in School.
They have been known to all gather around Akane for the purpose of making faces at her to try to get her to screw up, but of course that never happens....lol They can all be quite goofy at times. There are several videos of them just simple being goofy (i.e., sticking their fingers in other's noses or ears while they are trying to talk on camera.). Akane (nickname = Gorilla) used to eat a banana on stage, autograph it, then take a running start to the front of the stage and heave it into the crowd. The fans loved it, but the rest of the band members just thought it was weird and didn't appreciate the humor in it, so I don't think she does it anymore.
This is one of my favorites for sure, but mostly for Akane's solo. I have to say there are two that come to mind immediately. Most epic Bass battle EVER! (But you reacted to it) " BAND-MAID / HATE? (Official Live Video) " ua-cam.com/video/yfORoQIqB3E/v-deo.html and BEST OVERALL INSTRUMENTAL: Clue: Most spooky intro ever - everything else about the song is just epic! - " BAND-MAID / from now on (Official Music Video) " ua-cam.com/video/a6ZSvmnkS00/v-deo.html
