This might surprise a few people, but Cyclops has beaten Wolverine quite a few times. Hand-to-hand combat as well. Apocalypse's brain-washing of Cyclops proved that if he actually wanted to, Cyclops could obliterate Logan down to his adamantium bones at any point with a wide enough blast. No room for dodging, and too powerful to block it. I've always remembered those facts when watching this scene and it fits perfectly with Cyclops' respond to Logan's threat.

Xmen was always my favourite franchise. Just a shame the movies got absolutely butchered. X1 and X2 were amazing films. X3 (last stand) was the beginning of the end. Wolverine (Origins) added to that. When it was rebooted with First Class it had a chance, and then Days of Future Past made everything feel right again with the Timeline fix. But then then they shot themselves in the foot again with Apocalypse, and I don’t know what they were thinking with the Dark Pheonix movie. When it’s rebooted again within MCU, I hope it gets the justice it deserves.

In German it was Racer. NOW I wonder if they translated Wheels to Räder and then noticed it sounds like Racer? That English word would be easily known
Fun fact: Hugh Jackman ad lib with calling Charles "wheels" when in the script, it's actually "baldy"
That’s awesome 😂
Ok
Omg lol
He absolutely nailed the character, even in his ad libs!
You did research on it. are you still living in your mom's basement?
Hugh Jackman is fantastic. That subtle smile on, "What is this place?" communicates so much internal emotion. He has finally able to be himself after all this time and is feeling a little bit of real happiness.
Just makes the events Logan all the more tearjerking and heartbreaking. I hope at least he was able to find the peace he's been looking for.
Yeah, I saw that too, it's like he's thinking: "Finally, I'm no longer the ONLY FREAK, I'M HOME" 😢
They’re all so different in powers and personality, but being outcast and ostracized joins them all.
Everyone else always wanted to use him, he had been experimented on and brainwashed and suffered from amnesia and PTSD.
Xavier meanwhile welcomed him, a total stranger, into his home and genuinely only wanted to help him.
He never treated Logan as a freak or dangerous, and even gave Logan a home
In return he gained Logan's eternal respect and loyalty
That's the moment for me from which the whole franchise sprung.
Using Logan as the fish out of water character was a brilliant choice for the first X-Men movie. This is an excellent adaptation of the comics while not adapting a single individual story.
I would rather live action comicbook films to be loose but faithful adaptations of their original comics source material, but not copy and paste verbatim the same ole plots and stories of the comics.
Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they adapt the phoenix storyline from the comics... twice.
Logan and Rogue. Great move there as well setting up a kind of father-daughter bond that they unfortunately never built on later in the series
I would agree with you save for the fact that Scott and Ororo were completely wasted, considering they're the leaders of the X-Men after Charles. Scott is a master tactician and combatant, yet he gets bested by Toad of all people. It also skirts around Wolverine and Sabretooth's relationship. The only hint we have is when he takes his dogtags. This is more of a problem with the movie, but we're told that Scott and Jean are together, yet Jean has more scenes with Logan than with Scott. Storm isn't anywhere near the motherly figure she is in the comics, etc. It's far from an excellent adaptation.
@circular_entropy3455
Scott is the Leader, He's not Co-Leading with anyone. Please tell Me You're trollin' and not being forreal.

Back when we still pretended Hugh Jackman was "shorter" than cyclops or the other actors. He still made an amazing job at being Wolverine!
This is a bit of a deep dive but if Xavier reads Wolverines mind before hand to understand if he's dangerous, this would also determine if he needs to be locked up. Xavier wouldn't put the students at risk. They've also been respectful to him. So even if Wolverine grabs Cyclops, there's no reason to be concerned.
Xavier can just constantly keep tabs on Wolverine's intentions, so if Wolverine had the intent to stab Cyclops then n' there, Xavier would just shut him down before he could do it. That's the way I viewed it.
The point is that he wants to show that he is kind and wants to help him, and they're all in this together. If he went out the gate mind controlling him, even if it was a dangerous situation, surely someone like wolverine wouldn't be likely to come back and reason with them.
Professor X have did that in 1973
it's crazy how this scene resemble with the ending from the "Days of future past", here is Logan is agressive loner, and there he is the one who finally found home and suffered a lot to get it and his family back, and how glad he was to reunited with his team and Charles.

Funny how Cyclops just look at professor like “can’t you just let me beat him once?”
To be honest, Cyclops & Wolverine should have just fought things out at least once, under safe circumstances, just to settle who's truly the most powerful, and come to a mutual respect. I dunno why they didn't, Wolverine could survive the beating Cyclops could give him.
@@tronovonflidder775 They can’t, because if cyclops lost it in the middle of the fight he might kill wolverine, and both know that he can do it, but yeah I thing a fight between them was much needed, just like Thor and Iron man did or Iron man and Capitan, is not about who’s gonna win but release some stamina 😅🤣 you’re very right

Cyclops if he really wanted to could blast the very meat off Wolverine's bones, or just blast him far away, similar to what Magneto did to him in Days of Future Past. It would take a while for Wolverine to fully recover/return from that.
Not dying doesn't mean Wolverine can't lose fights. And Wolverine only gets close to Cyclops if he sneak attacks him, or for whatever reason Cyclops decides to be goofy & engage in cqc with Wolverine.

Watching this scene followed by Wolverine defending the mansion from Stryker is so powerful.

Prof. X: Physics!
Man years later and it still cracks me up
In X2, why does she need to jump through the ceiling? If nothing can touch her couldn't she just walk through the soldiers and doors? For that matter couldn't she just chill in her bed?
It's not like they had the power to stop her without touching her (the cure, Rogue) like with the mutant itself in X3. Maybe there are some telepathic attacks, a voice attack like that other girl, maybe some smell attacks or visual ones? Which makes me wonder could she change her status so she wouldn't notice bright lights, loud or dangerous noises, or even gas smells? Couldn't she also just walk up to the soldiers grab their gun and only their gun and pull it through them? Danny Phantom worked at lot with that power, he could get rid of water or dust quite easily, also with other people.
Can that other girl really just scream to cause pain, etc, or can it be a bit more useful, or at least differentiated, like only noticing mutants or humans, noticing instead of hurting, breaking glass but not hurting anyone else? Cyclops' power needs to be modulated, but she at least can turn it off, unlike him and Rogue. Cyclops' power for me was the biggest warning against Rogue EVER learning to control her power, even though in X2 she could kiss Bobby for at least a second and only had his powers before the second time when she hurt him. A HUGE improvement in my book. But if that wasn't control, just new rules, it would be dangerous in moments where she needs to suck the energy and power the micro second she touches.
The first movie in a franchise is almost always the best. X-Men is no exception. It was new and fresh.
I feel ancient watching this, beautiful scene to a nostalgic movie.

Professor x: they saved your life
Wolverine who can regenerate from a single blood cell: are you sure about that?
Logan did say that he doesn't need medical attention. My guess Xavier's goal was to have Logan feel like he's safe and finally found a place he could call home. Remember, Logan has been traveling around the world for 15 years by himself. Can't imagine how depressing that could get for being alone for that long or not even knowing who you truly are.

This movie was perfectly cast.
It was, although probably my least favorite Halle Berry performance. Not her fault, they didn't give her much to work with except lame one liners that fell flat.
