Looking for a quiet portable generator to back up house in power outage - lights, 2 refrigerators and furnace for heat in winter or, a couple portable fans in hot summer. Would this suffice?
90 Day Warranty, that tells me all I need to know about the poor build quality and poor quality of components it is built with. Before someone says you can buy a 2 year warranty, no you can't, what you are buying is a 2 year one time replacement contract, that means if the unit breaks during the two year period Harbor Freight will replace it one time so if your Predator breaks down on day 95, 5 days out of warranty you just used up your one time replacement and Harbor Freight has fulfilled the contract. You now have to purchase another 2 year one time replacement contract if you want to continue it. At $329 dollars per contract that gets expensive in a hurry and that does not count your having to drain the fluids and return the defective units to Harbor Freight. I will stick with Yamaha generators, they come with a real 3 year warranty and they are made in Japan, also Yamaha inverter generators are the best inverters made, with just 1% distortion that meets medical and aviation standards. If nothing else remember this buy once cry once. The alternative is buy over and over and cry over and over.
Actually the best inverter generator is the Honda. How do I know? I have one. I have the biggest one they make. Mine has electronic fuel injection. It’s rated at 5500 watts continuous & 7000 watts surge. I’ve had mine 7 years & all I have done to mine for service is change the oil once a year irregardless of use. It hasn’t reached the service hour schedule yet with less than 100 hours on it. Mine on economy mode is super quiet & battery start with a wired remote start. I can start mine inside my house without having to go outside. Mine will even start my 2-1/2 ton Trane central air & run the rest of my 1700 sqft house. The central air has a soft start on it. I’m not knocking Yamaha. I’m unfamiliar with the brand. I’m a power lineman for a living. Any generator is better than no generator when the power is out.
@@nesq4104 I personally know other lineman that have bought the same generator second hand. Just remember that generator can go up to 5000 hours before needing a rebuild if it was taken care of correctly. They would buy them with 2000 or 3000 hours on them & pick them up for $1200. You could try that route. However than model might have a carburetor as opposed to fuel injection. The fuel injection gives me more hours of run time. Plus none of the carburetor issues with fuel injection. The critical piece everyone is missing. If you buy a house in the country just know your house will experience more power outages. I'm a lineman so before we looked at the house I looked at the pole hardware. Your best bet is to be on a 3 phase back bone like where we live. Those are the first circuits restored in a big storm. We hardly ever lose power. When we do we are out only for a few days & we are back on. Meanwhile everyone else is out up to 2-3 weeks. There are hidden costs to living way off the grid.
@@johnclyne6350 so I bought a house in Puerto Rico. I just Installed a transfer switch so I can use a generator because after the last tropical storm. Power was horrible and I work remotely. I don't know if I'm on a 3 phase. But I'm looking for a quality generator , 7k watts. I have seen branded Chinese ones in my area for 2k. And I don't know what I'm even checking for as per quality due to lack of experience in the topic. They offer 2 year warranty. . The Honda is 5k here which is a stretch. Could I actually afford it yes, is it what I was hoping to pay, hell no. But I would hate to spend 2k on Chinese model and then constantly be in repair shop. Power has been consistent lately but when you need power you need power and I can't be running around the city looking for what block has power to charge my laptop also I can work.
@@johnclyne6350 also I am in the city are close to the main tourist district. When power was going out this year my block and some surrounding blocks had no power for hours at a time while others had power and a friend who is closer to the hospital would never lose power. 😩

When you run on propane a generator it puts out less power than it is rated for, the rating is when running on gas.

Standard oil for break in.. After 10 hours I dump oil and run synthetic. After that change at manufacture recommended

This unit will run a 1500 watt space heater and prob a fridge and a few lights…
I like this generator, but it doesn't have a 30 amp twist lock plug. The RV plug is handy, but not for me.
You can buy an adapter to convert to a twist plug. Seen it on another video. That’s what they did to hook up to his house. Think it was like $30

Yes I have a 22kw home backup generac.. I have had a few of the small inverters in the past also.

I still have a xg10000 from about 7 years ago and still runs great.

That was powerful advice. I'm looking currently I need 7000 watts. But damn 5k is steep. But like you said quality will pay for itself in the long run
